They look the same but more detailed on the Switch?
aye, answered OP.Yes, that is what I said basically
Bravely Default: simple models and postprocess effects, 3D background made of 2D layers
Some might call it an art style, a realist such as myself might call it cheap. It's obvious to me that Squeenix aren't putting effort into making the series something really great, they're content just having a passable JRPG with well designed mechanics and some good music, but kind of lacking in other areas. They just don't want to put money into an AAA JRPG these days and this is the closest we can get. Final Fantasy can hardly even be called JRPG anymore with all the americanization the series has gone through.aye, answered OP.
Would I like a fully animated and modeled Bravely Default? Oh hell yes. But even I realize they went with this because of artstyle.

I don't mind the art style too much, but there's more to it than that. It has that handheld game feel about it, where it's a dumbed down, simplified, and less good version of what it would be if it was made for a home console instead. You see it a lot, even within the same franchise the handheld games are more simplified and cheaply made. And that doesn't need to be the case. Especially not on the Switch which has many home console-type games already out for it.Personally, what draws me to Bravely Default IS the "cheap" style. Maybe it is because I grew up when Final Fantasy IV was sold as Final Fantasy II, but it is the first JRPG I've really enjoyed enough to play through since FF7.
I fully intended going into this thread that it would be about how there is a Bravely Default 2 when there was already a Bravely Second. But instead it's a discussion of the visual style. I like the stylistic choice they went with for the first game and are upgrading it versus making it look like another post FF12 cutscene.
Played through 2's demo and i don't know how you came to this conclusion if you're a fan of the series; 2 is basically just BD with higher production values.you are strange, the first game was beautiful even with the bad resolution from the 3DS
whereas for this game, it looks just bad, the 3D models are terrible, the artworks are worse, uninspired, ridiculous, where is the artist from the first game ? it's really terrible
+ the story does not looks better than the first
+ I feel we'll get a cheap bad gameplay

It does look bad but not because of the art style. The field is constantly hazy, everything looks like it's desperately in need of a sharpen filter. Certain locations are absolutely hideous, such as the ruins; Spartan environment with bad textures. It could be so much better than this.
