1. shouldn't be more then 50 quid.
2. v1.0 - v1.6, exterior is just plastic haha.
3. v1.0 - v.15.
4. nope, PAL, NTSC and NTSC-J
5. Not out of the box but can do with softmod.
6. depends on the game lol.
7. 100% compatible with all Xbox games? softmod is an option.

About 5, I recommend softmodding it and replacing the HDD with a bigger one.
Chimp can do it on the Xbox itself.

Yeah I love my soft modded OG Xbox, if you get a larger hard drive either IDE or with a SATA adapter, look for something called Ninja Massive and some add on packs. You will love it if you love arcade games and stuff like MAME.

Even PS1 emulation is possible on it and N64!!!

Also if you get the right cables (component cables) some games will run up too 1080i on it, but I would stick with 720 it just looks nicer. Emulators look great in 720P too :) (on a modern TV no less!!!)

Hello and Congratulations to your Choice to buy an XBox.:)

1.10 - 500 Euros (here in Austria on Wiilhaben.at for example).
Average I would say 25 Euros with Controller and A/V Cable. But that depends on Offer/Demand.
Sometimes they would thrown on the "Market" around 20-30 Euros and you can choose between many Offers.
Sometimes......I think "It is only a Piece of Plastic (average Prices around 100 - 150 Euros).

2.The HDD Brand/DVD Drive Brand and most important the Flash (Bios) Chip.
Version 1.0 - 1.5 can be TSOP Flashes,1.6 did not have this Chip,so only Softmod or ModChip (6 Wire Installation for an Aladdin XT if I remember correct) Solution.

3.Theoretically all Versions, but I remember v1.6 did not have this Capacitor in that Kind.
It is not a GENERAL Issue. The XBox was intended to plugged in the whole Time.So it has NO BIOS Battery for the Clock.
If an XBox was "treated" this Way,yes you have this Issue for sure.A XBox that was not permanent always connected to the electricity will most likely not have this Error.Maybe.:)

4.Unmodded - NO - Softmodded/TSOP flashed - YES

5. Depends on the DVD Drive - The Brands are Philips/Samsung/Hitachi (very rare !!)/Thomson.
(https://www.reddit.com/r/originalxbox/wiki/dvdrom) but you can say with an Samsung you have the "best" Chances.
Please Note, some Drives only read DVD-R/+R/RW but no CDs.

6.Really ? :rofl2:

7........compared to which Console please ? :)
An (working) XBox is never an "bad Buy".:D

Thank you.:)

V1 and 1.1 are different inside as well. Both have a different power connector on the board to 1.2-1.6 and v1 has a crappy whiny fan on cpu.

Powerconnector is not a real issue, but v1 fan is horrible.

Yeh indeed, best would be to replace the heatsinks or replace the fan.
Chances of getting a v1.0 is slim tho.

Figured I'd add my two cents.

1:what's the average price for an og xbox?
Generally pretty cheap, I wouldn't pay more than $50 USD for one, I've found ones at thrift stores and yard sales for as low as $10.
2:are there any differences between the many versions of the xbox?
Yes, but they're mostly minor. The biggest difference is that 1.6 doesn't have the clock capacitor problem, but you also can't TSOP Flash a 1.6 board. You can still softmod though, but you'd need a modchip if you want a permanently unlocked hard drive on a 1.6 board.
3:witch versions of the xbox have the clock capacitor problem?
All except 1.6.
4:is it region free?
Only if you mod it.
5:can it read burned disks?
Only if you mod it. Once it's modded, it's generally easier to transfer your games over the network. Xbox DVD drives are notorious for dying.
6:what's the average price for the games?
Depends on the game. I've got boxes full of games I've bought at thrift stores or yard sales, for no more than $5. But if you're looking for a particular game you may have to pay more for it on eBay.
7:what are the og xbox's pros and cons?
Well that's a loaded question, but I'll give it a shot.
Pros:

  • Has emulators for many retro consoles, including SNES, Sega Genesis, Gameboy Advance *
  • Check out CoinOPS for an easy to setup all-in-one arcade pack
  • With XBMC4Xbox, you can use it as a full-blown Media Center *
  • Can add games and other content over the network via FTP *
  • Hard drive can be upgraded for additional storage space *
  • Can play all Original Xbox games without using an emulator
  • Although Xbox Live is dead, you can still play online using XLink Kai (and hopefully Insignia soon!)
  • Can be found used for relatively cheap
Cons:
  • 1.0-1.5 needs clock capacitor pulled or you could end up with a brick
  • Either TSOP Flash your Xbox, or backup your EEPROM, or Hardmod, otherwise if your hard drive dies you could end up with a brick
  • Stock hard drive is ancient, probably has a short life span left if it's not dead already
  • Stock DVD drive dies constantly
  • IDE hard drives are getting scarce, you'll probably need an IDE PATA to SATA adapter so you can replace the hard drive with a SATA drive
  • Xbox Live is dead
  • Xbox Controller cables break too easily, if you want to use OEM controllers you're going to need to learn how to fix the cable
  • It's a little underpowered, stutters with many H.264 videos, could use RAM upgrade
  • No new games
* Requires (soft)mod

Long story short the Original Xbox is an awesome console, especially for modding purposes. I was in high school when I got mine, and originally had no intentions of modding it, but then the DVD drive broke. Once I got the case open and saw that it was basically a computer inside, I started googling online and learned a ton of stuff. I ended up modding a bunch of friend's Xboxes throughout the rest of high school and college. It was the very first console I ever modded, and now over a decade later I've modded a PS2, Wii, DS, PSP, 3DS, Wii U, and Switch. But there will always be a special place in my heart for the original Xbox.
