This day I was playing with my wood... like literal woodworking... and I was thinking about chocolate.
Then, I remembered that I'm allergic to chocolate and I got curious to know if I'm the only one who's allergic to chocolate.

Not only I'm intolerant to chocolate, but allergic to it. My allergy to chocolate depends on how it's made. I can drink hot chocolate with very little health problems, but eating a piece of chocolate, or cake with chocolate will end up in stomachache, dizziness and small pimples on my skin (arms, legs, stomach, back, etc), sometimes my tongue would swell but that happens with extremely bad chocolate.

So... you're meeting a guy who hasn't ate chocolate in many, many years.

On chocolate it is often more the insect parts within it than the chocolate itself. https://www.fda.gov/media/71809/download

Anyway nice try assassins.

Though as I am tougher than them.
Tomatoes. Raw, cooked, powdered and put in food as a flavour enhancer. My throat won't close up or anything but the next day/in about 6 hours I will splatter the bowl or do something that can only be described as like marginally lumpy pissing out of my arse. I could not eat a raw one without chucking up, even one being cut and squirting a bit in my mouth is an incredible effort in self control (I can otherwise happily eat food in front of an open drain with rotting meat and shit in it, and active human gore beside it), and cooked in a sauce holds absolutely no appeal (and not just because I know the effects). Seems to be a family thing as well as loads of my aunts, uncles and cousins detest the things and apparently it goes further back still.
Sadly they are ridiculously common in things (they are cheap, bulk things up quite well and done right they do enhance flavours), and companies add them/change ingredients without warning so I have to read the back of essentially every pack of food* and have to put back an awful lot of things I might otherwise like.

*found it on crisps/nachos that were not tomato flavoured (in fact they were plain/spicy), I can make my own curry that is far nicer but next to no chance of ever finding a jar of curry sauce, noodles often have it, spice mixes often have it (including ones you would not expect -- last poisoning was from chicken spice mix), I have seen it in stock cubes, have to be careful buying Cornish pasties and other premade foods (fortunately nobody is crazy enough to put it in a scotch egg), sadly in the UK they have not been introduced to the wonder of bean dip and I hate most non cheese white sauces, guacamole, and nasty cheese goop is no better either so have nothing really dunk my crisps in unless I make some beans/hummous (hard when you are going round someone's and just want to grab some stuff from the shop). The only lasagna or spaggy bowl I have is one I make myself (more on that in a minute). Pizza is then either a garlic base (I don't mind at all but it does rather leak out of the pores for days), bbq base (though they also use tomatoes), or make it myself with a pepper base (again more on that in a moment). Mexican food is for the most part right out unless white sauce or I make it myself. Restaurants are also a gamble or take one for the team scenario.

As a kindness to my fellow dislikers of tomatoes. Mediterranean cooking often has jars of cooked peppers (lidl in the UK sell them quite cheap, mediterranean cooking shops elsewhere in the world I have been) aka bell peppers or sweet pepper. Get these, drain them and slice them and blend them. You will be tempted to add extra water if you are used to tomatoes but don't unless you are after a super super thin sauce (as in useful in a bloody mary thin). I am still working on getting the tang in there (white vinegar or vinegar from a pickle jar usually gets somewhere) and don't have any MSG (it is the same sort of flavour/approach/chemistry) to try with but it makes a perfectly suitable sauce for my purposes and even without it is still nice.

I like parsnips but it seems my hands really get aggravated (10x worse than eczema, and I am no stranger to cracked and weeping hands) by them when I peel them so I wear gloves these days. Pro tip the second as so few seem to know it. Slice them up into equal size chunks (easier said than done with the tapered nature of such things) and they will cook evenly rather than burning on one end or being undercooked.

I'm allergic to the dye in green jolly ranchers. Specifically only that kind of green dye, not all of them mess me up (although I have found that dye in other green candies, but not in most). Its effects aren't horrible, it just closes up my throat a bit and makes me cough. I'm not really sure why I'm allergic to that specific dye, or what that dye is even called because there are lots of different green dyes.

Also one time I drank some boujee orange juice at an art museum and had similar effects, though it was worse and the effects lasted for a few days. I'm not allergic to orange juice and I don't understand why that juice gave me the same effects as green jolly ranchers, but it did.

Very weird stuff.

When I was a child I was allergic to whey protein, and I couldn't eat chocolate, drink milk, eat cookies which it's baking process involved milk at any point, etc. Then, once I was 4, I drank something called Yakult; it's a fermented sweetened probiotic milk beverage, it's from Japan, I dunno if it exist on US, CAN or UK so I'm explaining anyway... well, returning to my history, when I finished it I didn't had any symptoms of anykind, and since then I can eat and drink any kind of dairy product or related to milk.

Cool! Didn't knew that good'ol Yakult could help with that kind of stuff. It's been years since I last drank one.
I used to chiquitearlo whenever I got one because it's one of my favourite things ever.

Actually, it wasn't the Yakult that helped me. I tried Yakult when I was 2 years my momma has told me, and that time I threw up and had fever and all that shit. I think my body got ready to drink milk and milk products until I was 4.
:rofl2:
And yeah, I love Yakult, but it has a lot of sugar and I don't like sugar so much.

milk chocolate allergy checking in.

not only does it make me sick to eat, but the smell of milk chocolate alone also makes me want to vomit. i just woke up one day, bam, unable to eat chocolate after years of loving it. luckily, white chocolate isn't really chocolate so at least i can still have that.

I don't know if this counts but I've noticed that I'm becoming lactose intolerant as years pass for no real reason.

It has become bothersome more recently where drinking milk is enough to give me diarrhea now.

Forgot another.
Lanolin. A grease from sheep wool.

Is/was common in handcreams, particularly E45 and some hand soaps.

Really sucks when you want some relief from dry hands, or wash your hands to keep them clean because they are cracked, weepy and dry and instead you make things 20 times worse as you find them all red and inflamed, and looking like you should be in a horror film.

Not that I suggest doing it, and that also assumes it is lactose intolerance and not something else in milk products or maybe just cow milk products*, but there are options coming down the line

*plenty of goat and sheep products out there these days.

I'm allergic to the glue on plastic Band-Aids.
I have that as well.
That said anything I am likely to put one on will probably heal itself in a few minutes anyway. Else I just glue myself back together or make a bandage instead, or maybe stitch myself back together but have not had that worry for a while now.

Not really allergic, but still: I.Absolutely.Can.Not.Stand.Soft.Velvet.
I don't know what it is, and in a way it's ridiculous, but that softness makes me crawl and scream under my skin. This has lead to some absurd S&M situations ("nooo! Not the velvet! PLEEEEAAAASSSEEE!!" :P), but ey...that's just how it goes.

My girlfriend's allergic to mushrooms/fungi. And not a little bit either: she can get a nasty rash and swollen throat if she accidentally eats anything even containing a small part of it.
