Hi friends,

So I get my hands on an xbox and an aladdin xt plus2 modchip for the first time.

I have a few questions:

1- should I solder the D0 point on th emotherboard to D0 on modchip or on a metal plate near a screw on the motherboard?

2- should I need to reflash the modchip if the xbox is not a 1.6? how do I do that, and what bios?

3- after installation complete, what is the dashboard that the console boots? will it read games from burned dvd and hdd on the go?

4- if I need to install another dashboard which one do your recommend? can all dashboard be installed from hexen?

5- how to make that new dashboard the default on boot?

6- if I want to replace the hdd for a bigger one, can I just change the hdd, rebuild the hdd with hexen with E + F partition and that's it? should I take care about keys of hdd or something??!

Sorry for so many question. I have never done this and there are no good tutorials on this.
Many thanks

1. solder to D0.
2. idk tbh.
3. Could be the MS dashboard if you haven't softmodded it.
If it does, softmod it and pick UnleashX.
4. see 3.
5. it should do that automatically.
6. Backup your C and E drive (possibly F) and let Hexen rebuild the drive, or Slayers.
You could also let Chimp do everything, no need to swap around files.

1- you decide, remember D0 effectively switches between builtin and external bios, if you don't plan on removing the chip "frequently" and don't want to dual boot might as well fix it to ground

2- https://www.reddit.com/r/originalxbox/wiki/bios/features - my choice is EvoX M8+ modified with EVTool to disable the optical drive requirement and change some colors ^_^
I recommend to download and burn to a quality DVD-R a recovery disc (I personally use TruHexen2019 but it has a few rough corners and prefer to copy files manually, still a good choice for the beginner)

3- Default boot order of EvoX bios is D:\default.xbe, C:\evoxdash.xbe, C:\avadash.xbe, C:\nexgen.xbe

4- easily XBMC, if you don't care for media then UnleashX or EvoX

5- move their files and rename the executable so it fits into the boot sequence, or create a forwarder (and put it into said place) with xbe shortcut maker (that's what truhexen dashboard switch does), or change the boot order

6- can be a smart idea to unlock the original disk (and any disk you're not actively using), there's no "erase all and unlock" in ATA security so if you lose the original eeprom you get to throw it away
And no, on a chipped or flashed xbox you don't need to know the (eeprom or final) hdd keys or need anything from the original disk, to replace it
However it is good practice to partition your disk with XBPartitioner and reboot the console before actually putting files on it (on an unmodified xbox there's no partition table, they are hardcoded in the bios, third party bioses add in the same fashion some default definition of F: and possibly G: but will prefer a partition table if it exists)

The first place to check for Xbox homebrew in general is "the usual place" = Xbins

However if you have a Hexen disc, it already has inside the official dashboard (always a good idea to have on C: where it belongs), EvoX, UnleashX, XBMC, and XMBC4Gamers (as well as other tools like XBPartitioner, and the major bioses)

if I want to use a 1tb hdd do I really need to change the IDE cable? or can I use the stock one? I don't care about loading times!

Proper implementations of the ATA standard don't have any problems if limited to UDMA2 speed by an unshielded 40-wire cable: the obvious conclusion is that few ide/sata converters are ideal implementations

If your time is free you could buy the cable later, of course
