I have also createtd Emunand with Hekate. I have a Emummc folder in my old sd card and i want to upgrade now to a bigger sd card. In my Emummc folder i find another folder with Raw.

What options do i have to check in this EmuTool program? :) The other folders like atmosphere etc i can just copy over, but i'm not sure how to copy the emummc folder.
1 - Backup your hidden partition selecting Atmosphere Hidden Partition as target and Atmosphere Emu on file as target.
2a - If you feel confortable using partitioning tools (if not check below 2b) then create 2 partition, the first as Fat32 or ExFat, the second and last partition of 30Gb, do not format the second partition. (check here or for Italian language here)
3a - check that in windows you can see the bigger partition, not the 30Gb partition (check disk size), if you are able to enter in the 30GB partition you have done something wrong

4a - On Emutool select Atmosphere emu on file as Source (browse where you find BOOT0 file), select Atmosphere Hidden partition as Target and select the last 30GB Partition.

If you don't want to reinstall all the NSP remember to copy also the Nintendo folder you can find in sd:/emummc/raw1/ from old SD to the new one (Emutool tells you where at the end).
I usually preferred to reinstall the games because Nintendo folder is alway very big. The saves are in the emunand.

Alternative:
2b - If you don't know partitioning or don't feel confortable with it, then you can use sxos to partition even without a licence. Put the file from sx named boot.dat on the new sd root, start the Switch using payload.bin from sx, go to Option and start Emunand creation.
3b - As soon as Boot1 is done, click Cancel, turn off the switch put sd card in PC
4b - In Emutools select Atmosphere Emu on File as Source and SXOS Emu on hidden partition (don't worry, sx is ok)
5b - when finished unzip emummc.zip file on the root of the new SD (find it here above) and you are ok to boot your emunand with fusee-primary or Hekate (and also with sxos if you have a valid licence).

Don't format your old sd card until you are sure that everything works with your new sd card.

Ciao!

EmuTool
Move, Copy, Convert, Backup and Restore your SXOS and Atmosphere Emunand/emuMMC.

(Art by @CrazyKing93)

(Emunand or emuMMC are the same concept, below will be referred to simply as Emu)

Italian language guide here

Warning!

Antivirus program can block and delete EmuTools.
EmuTool uses these functions of Windows Kernel32: CreateFile, CloseHandle, DeviceIoControl, SetFilePointer, ReadFile, GetFileSize, WriteFile, FlushFileBuffer, LockFile, UnlockFile
Check source code in second post if you need.

1. What is it for?

  • Move the Hidden partition Emu (Atmosphere\SXOS) on a new (bigger?) SD
  • For SXOS it allows to switch from Emu on partition mode to Emu on file and vice versa, so you can have two Emunand on the same SD card.
  • Change your Emu format from Atmosphere to SX OS and viceversa and from Hidden partition Emu to Emu on file
  • Backup and restore of every type of Emu.
  • Create a new Emu (for experiments?) starting from you current Hekate/SXOS backup or from your current Emu
  • Split an Hekate backup in multiple files ready for fat32 partitions
  • Create the relevant configuration files to boot the Emu (emummc.ini, raw_based, file_based and folder structure)

2. Using the Tool
To access the SD partitions run EmuTool.exe with administrator rights, it should already request it, if not please do a right click and choos Run as Administrator...
To start, double click on the EmuTool.exe file and confirm the administrative rights if necessary
EmuTool requires that you select a source (Source), ie where to read the Emu, and a destination (Target), ie where to write the copy of the Emu.
Both Source and Target support Partition and Files.
When Source and Destination are set press the Start button to start copying.
(I apologize for the UI quality. This was a tool created just for me and I wanted to keep it lightweight, free of dependencies, no installation and easily usable, as I think a tool so limited and specific should be)

fefd4f169c294b50ab045.png

3. How to Select SD card and File
After selecting the type of Emu you want as a Source or Target, click on the "white" box with the words "Click to select SD Card" in the frame relating to the Emu type selection.
A navigation window will appear depending on the Emu type selected
In case of Partition type, the following window will appear
2f2820ee5df6c9f967084.png
Selecting the drive containing the SD shows a list of the partitions present on the SD card.
The Sector field located at the bottom right is important.
The first value is read by emummc.ini if it is correct, check the emummc.ini file in the emummc folder of the SD card if this value is incorrect. If you are using Kosmos simply select the Emu from the emuMMC menu.
If you select a partition from the list, then the initial sector of the partition, added to the 16Mbyte offset, will be shown in the Sector field.
No partition selection for SXOS as it is fixed to 0x2 on the first patition.
If something is wrong then you can correct the value, in hex (with notation 0x as in 0x02AC2300) or in decimal (for example the value read from Minitool Partition Wizard)

Confirmed with Ok the main screen displays the data related to the Emu to read
2ddc5984d870dcf2e91c2.png

If you choose The File Type Emu the following window will appear
8332cd2bcd1ae3168afb9.png

Select the destination folder and the path will be shown on the main screen in the white box

d50f510cc9fecee6194f1.png

When everything is set as desired press Start.

4. Enabling / disabling Emunand SXOS on partition (allows to start emunand on file)
Select Source SXOS hidden partition and click the white box to select the SD card drive. When SD is selected two new buttons will appear in the main window

299a5edf2d615d4f3db76.png

WARNING!!!
No check is made on the actual existence of Emunand, so you can enable emu on partition even if this partition does not exist.

The state of the buttons indicates the current status of Emunand on partition.
Click on "Enable Partition Emu" to enable reading the Emunand from the hidden partition.
Click on "Disable Partition Emu" to disable it. In this case the File Emunand will be loaded if there is a valid SXOS File Emunand on SD in the sxos\Emunand folder.
You can now prepare a SXOS Emunand file.
Select the SXOS File type as Target, select the SD root as the path and press Start to create a copy of your Emunand partition in Emunand file, without the need to use hard disk and without having to reload the cfw files on the SD.
EmuTool Create the sxos/Emunand folder starting from the point you choose as the destination folder. Inside the Emunand foledr you will find the Emunand files.

5. Change SD for those who have Emu on partition
To bring the Emu to the new SD there are two possibilities:
1 - Copy the Emu to file and use it in File mode (see section 6)
2 - Create a special partition of at least 30GByte on the new SD and transfer the Emu on it, however, requires the passage at point 1 (first go to section 6 and then to section 7)
6. Convert partition Emu in Emu on File
Select as Source the type of partiton Emu, Atmosphere or SXOS, you want to read/copy and then select the SD card by clicking on the white box.
Select as Target the type of Emu on file you want to get and click on the white box to select a destination path.
The Emu-related folders will be created, ready to be copied to the SD root. In the case of the Atmosphere type, the emummc.ini and file_based files are also created.
For SXOS the sxos folder is created and within it the Emunand folder is created. For Atmosphere the emuMMC folder is created, the emummc.ini file compiled and the HPE0 folder which will contain the eMMC folder with the Emu files and the file_based file needed by Kosmos\Hekate\Nyx.

Press Start to begin.
7. Transfer of the Emu to partition
Select as Source the Emu File type and select the folder that contains the Emu files, not the root folder (ie choose sxos\Emunand or emummc\HE0\eMMC folders).
Select as Target the type of partition Emu that you want to restore, in case of Atmosphere type you will also have to indicate the initial sector of the partition you created to host the Emu. Please check the other tutorial on how to create a suitable partition for emuMMC (you can use the free minitool partition software).

Press the Start button to start copying.

6. Conclusion
For any other operation you can think of, the way to select the SD reader and browse through the folders does not change, so I guess I shouldn't bother you with unnecessary chatter ;-)

I do not offer any guarantee for the use of this software. I am a very bad programmer, so if you use EmuTool it will be at your own risk.
If using this software the processor should start like a rocket and cut your head off (Hey They killed kenny! ... You Bastard!), I'm not responsible.

With this software you can do whatever you want (copy, distribute, decompile, write the user TheyKilledKenny is idiot, etc.), but NOT SELL in any ways. If you recover even a single penny with this software you must immediately donate to charity, otherwise you are a thief.

Thanks to the user @GraFfiX420 for pointing me in the right direction with his tutorial

So I have my Sys and EMU on separate sd cards, but my emummc sd is still half partitioned. Is there any tool that makes the sd card size bigger for emummc and less for its sysnand?

Hi,

I try to use the tool since two days and it drives me nuts. I have Atmosphere on my Switch and Hekate. Both newest version.

I use Emunand on a hidden partition (30GB) and format was always FAT32. Now I tried to get all on a bigger SD card.

I first formated the new card to a 30GB-partition and a rest-partition. Using Mini-Tool as always. Then copied my folders from the non-hidden partition (old sd card) to the rest-partition of the new card. There are stuff like Nintendo-folder, Atmosphere-folders, etc.

Then I downloaded your tool to get my Emunand from the old 30GB-FAT32-hidden-partition on the new 30-GB-FAT32-partition.

I started the tool as administrator. As source I used "Atmosphere hidden partition". As target "Atmosphere file" and as path some folder on my desktop. It worked well, because I got a 29 GB backup on my desktop, then.

Now the problem begins. When I try to write the backup on the 30GB-FAT32-partition of the new SD card, I choose as source "Atmopshere file" and this path:
c:\documents\desktop\emummc\HPE0\eMMC

As target, I choose "Atmosphere hidden partition" and the 30GB-FAT32-partition of my new SD card. It's writing about 3min and then says, I shouldn't forget to put my nintendo folder in RAW 9 folder?! My nintendo folder was always on the rest-partition and is way too big for a 30GB hidden partition!
I also don't get why I have a 29GB backup and the tool is writing only around 500MB on the fresh partition.

When I put the SD card in my switch and try to boot the Emunand, it just says, there is none.

Any solutions?

Emutool perform a binary copy of the partition, starting from the sector number specified with the standard length of a sysnand.
If you can see and select the partition in Emutool or you know the starting sector number, than it should be possible to backup also Android or other kind of partitions.

I have never had to deal with the Android partition on Switch (i'm going to check), so I don't know if the size is ok, but since there is an increasing number of oversized Emu, maybe I have to add a size parameter
Sorry, a partitioning tool is not present in Emutool (it took a lot of time that I don't have), so at the moment you have to recreate the partitions by hand or try to use the new Hekate partitioning tool.
Maybe in the next release I could add support for partitioning using windows diskpart utility, but it'll be wonderful is someone else can carry on this project.

So I have my Sys and EMU on separate sd cards, but my emummc sd is still half partitioned. Is there any tool that makes the sd card size bigger for emummc and less for its sysnand?
Sorry a bit of confusion, maybe my bad English.
Sysnand is the internal Nand, the SD Card is not required and is needed only for bigger space when installing more games.
Emunand is a copy of the Sysnand on a SD Hidden partition or in files, so an SD card is required and part of its space (29,2Gb) is for storing the sysnand copy (partition or file)
This space is not completely lost, what remains of your 29,2Gb (subtracted the space occupied by the OS) can be used by installing games on Nand while you are in Emunand mode (it means use the space in the hidden partition, that is the "Nand" while you are in Emunand)

Now, I understand that you are using one SD card when yu use the console in clean Sysnand, and a separate (another) SD card when in Emu.
If this is the case, I don't understand the question, there is no shared space to move from one part to another and all the space on Emu SD card is availlable for Emu pourpose.

If you means you want to change and switch the usage between the two cards then you can backup the partition using Emutool, but you have to manually create and delete the partition needed (or read my previous answers).

Ciao!

The 30Gb partition must be the last, not the first, please check here
Windows does a lot of confusion with multipartition sd card, only the first partition should be used in windows.

The Nintendo must be copied in the rest-partition, not in the 30gb partition
The 30Gb partition should not be usable in windows, don't format the 30Gb partition to avoid this confusion.

If you want a simple and fast way to do it, use the sx method described here

Yes, this method also works, but pay attention and check if the software resizes only the bigger partition, not the 29Gb partition.
In general all cloning software can be used, Emutool is only a lightweight tool to do the copy.

Yes, if you copy also the Nintendo folder (or Emutendo if you are using sx) you'll have a full copy of the actual Emu.
If you don't copy the Nintendo folder, you have to reinstall the games, but the saves are still there

Does this work with purely dual boot hekate/atmosphere and android? I tried a clone of sd using acronis then doing the steps with gparted terminal window once and it failed to boot up either, black screen, ofw did work though.

Can you please check if your PC have the service "Windows Management Instrumentation" running?
Emutool use WMI to get the phisical disk name.
I have the same problem now, Emutools won't find my SD card and there's only a blank window:

WMI is running, but nothing works.
You have helped me a lot in the past, so I thought I ask here for help.

Edit: I should also mention that this is not a problem with my SD card. Activating "Show all drives" does nothing.

Please check if you have a big hdd attached to your Pc, as reported by @impeeza it may be the problem with your case.
Please, let me know.

Android have more than one partition, this tool copy only a single partition of about 29,2Gbyte, so the answer is no.
You need to do a binary copy of the entire SD card using something like win32diskimager or if linux DD is ok.

No, this is not intended.
you don't have to copy the Nintendo folder on the SD root, but the Nintendo Folder you can find in original sd /emummc/RAW1/ (or RAWx) to the new SD in /emummc/RAW9/.
Please check if this is the case, the size of the Nintendo folder should be as big as how many games you installed, so can be very big to copy across SD cards.

Hope you solved.

God I feel stupid. Thank you A LOT, I had an external HDD connected, now it works.
It's my fault, the tool should be able to work with everything connected.

Sorry for not clarifying yes I did copy over the Nintendo folder in the emunand folder not from root, I would use your tool to create the file, after it’s done point it to the new sd card that is fresh and partitioned correctly for emunand, everything would complete & it would state to move Nintendo folder from emummc/raw after that’s complete I would boot hekate and make sure to select the emummc again or make sure it’s selected and when booting CFW it would be as if it’s fresh HOS (no game icons) so I’m unsure what I did wrong.

I appreciate the help troubleshooting

No, Sorry. I don't know what can be wrong.
The first thought that came to my mind is that when you restored the emunand you chose a nand backup and not the emunand backup.

Try to boot your emunand backup as a emunand on file (the folder emummc and emummc.ini should be already ok in your backup location) and copy the Nintendo folder in sd /emummc/FILE to check if the backup is ok

Sorry, but there aren't any emunand manipolation or transformation in Emutool.
What you get after restore is what you previously backed up or something that doesn't work at all, but not a new clean emunand.
So if all the steps are done well and all the file and partition is choosen accordingly, I really don't know what can be wrong.

1. Ok so heres what i've done, use emutool with old SD in computer and point atmosphere hidden partition towards atmosphere file on my desktop, I'm left with the C:\Users\jww92\Desktop\emummc\emummc\HPE0\eMMC etc I copy over my nintendo folder from old SD as well from within E:\emuMMC\RAW1\Nintendo

2. Then I insert new SD which is already formatted and ready to go for emummc, point the C:\Users\jww92\Desktop\emummc\emummc\HPE0\eMMC folder at my new sd and verify the partition is correct it finishes and i copy over my Nintendo folder to E:\emummc\RAW9.

3. When it's all finished I put new SD into system, boot into hekate, use migrate emummc and boot into emummc which is verified and works.

HOWEVER my games are not there, It actually looks like an exact replica of my sysnand, as all my sysnand profiles and games are there but i don't want this because on my emummc i had no NNID linked accounts and I don't want to have to transfer my saves 1 by 1 to the new sd to restore my games fully so what am I doing wrong??

Alternatively! I also did a full emummc backup of rawnand with hekate and restored it to my new sd and it was the same thing basically a carbon copy of my sysnand with my saves and everything.. It clearly has E at the end of the system settings so I know i'm in EMUMMC but why is it copying my sysnand and not my emummc image..

I will try to make images of emummc with both partitions of the drive and restore them and I'll let you know if i resolved it or not.

Ok so for whatever reason I deleted my nintendo folder from root and did a emummc backup from the sector that hekate said was the correct one and it worked, no idea why but glad to finally be free of this as i;ve been at it for hours LOL

This might have absolutely nothing to do with Emutool, but I have no clue how to fix my problem..
I used Emutool to go from a file based sxos emunand to a hidden sxos partition on a new SD card.
Before, I was able to run sxos and Atmosphere at the same time, but not anymore.
When I launch Atmosphere through Hekate, the screen stays completely black.
I tried deleting everything except the Emunand folder and the sxos boot.dat and got a new package from sdsetup.
I made my emummc.ini like this, so I could use my old sxos Emuand:
[emummc]
enabled = 1
sector = 0x2
nintendo_path = Emutendo

Still, Atmosphere won't launch anymore, not with Hekate, not with fuse-primary or any other payload.
Am I doing something wrong? Does converting the emunand into another format with Emutool change anything that stops Atmosphere from working now?
