Bloodstained's randomizer and Zangetsu update is slated for release on May 7th

505 Games is still pumping out updates for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. After quite a while since the game's launch, it'll finally be receiving the promised Kickstarter goal of a randomizer. You'll be able to tweak certain facets of the gameplay, such as shuffling the location of key items, randomizing the items you can get, turning the enemy drops to "chaotic", and more. There will also be other content in this upcoming update, making Zangetsu a playable character in a special new game+ mode. According to the developers, this mode is supposed to focus on much faster-paced combat than the base game. The update will go live for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One players on May 7th, with the patch taking slightly longer for the Nintendo Switch version, estimated for release sometime in late May, early June.

Zangetsu
Once you have completed Bloodstained and gotten the “Good Ending”, you will be able to choose Zangetsu to play through the game a second (or thirtieth) time.
Once selected, players will be able to play through Bloodstained using all of Zangetsu’s movement and combat abilities. Zangetsu is not a shardbinder, so he does not use shards as Miriam did. Instead he uses the power of his sword to dispatch enemies along with some special abilities that consume MP.

Randomizer
Randomizer allows you to adjust eight different game parameters to mix up your experience as you play through the main story of Bloodstained. You will be able to adjust the goals of their overall playthrough and quests, the location of save and warp rooms, shops, key items and also enemy drops.

Wow, finally...

Took the words out of my mouth. And the Switch version is still the shit version...which is the case for every version other than the PC version (how the fuck can't they optimize a game that, to be honest, looks like it came out on the 360 for the PS4, let alone the Xbox One X!?) with each having small problems that make the experience lesser.

As a developer, I have no idea what happened in their process to cause such a massive delay. Maybe an entire team quit or something along those lines, because for such a small featureset, even a single dev could accomplish this in the time they took.

dude multiplatform optimization is hard for something this graphically... exquisite (which isn't a problem for most indie games because they usually go for pure 2d, maybe 2.5d art style and usually pixelated)
plus, the switch version isn't all that bad now- it's optimized as well as it realistically can be for, as I said, an indie game, and the only times it chokes or lags on 1.04 are almost all in the tower of twin dragons. and that's the tower of twin dragons. any other problems with it aren't exclusive to it (unless you're about to b*tch about the resolution).

Back on topic: Finished the game and gotten everything quite a while ago. Don't even remember when I last touched it. Most likely I will just go watch some speedruns of the new modes.
Same, well, except that treasure chest that shows up to the very left of the ship where you start the game. Not sure if that is even possible. Perhaps they updated something and now you can, only played it at the very beginning on PS4 only update I have is the one that killed save files (didn't affect me fortunately).

Dude, responsible hyping is hard, and the WiiABU version should've never been a thing to begin with until later.

did you just call the Switch what I thought you just called the Switch

The only reason the Switch version was made was to appease pissed off WiiABU owners that their version (on a console that was essentially dead after 2014, mind you) got cancelled in lieu of the much better version of that Gamepad gimmick. Problem is, this isn't a 2D game, or anything that was made using the help of, say, Vanillaware and their brilliant 2D artstyle; this is a 2.5D game that, as hackers who've been able to OC the Switch can prove, really should've skipped the Switch in lieu of maybe coming out later on the Switch 2 when Nintendo aren't using Tegra X1 chips to power their systems when Nvidia has made successors to the aforementioned processor.

Playing Bloodstained as Zangetsu is designed to be a different experience than playing as Miriam with a focus on fast-paced combat. Consumables, equipment, crafting, treasure chests, quests and story cutscenes are disabled when playing as Zangetsu.

Now that to me is not acceptable, especially quests and story cutscenes. I'm not expecting them to be exactly the same as Miriam, but especially with the legendary crowdfunding success I did expect that other playable characters to be given fleshed out modes and stories of their own. A different sort of equipment progression, his own story, new mechanics etc... would be appreciated for Zangetsu to provide another perspective into the game; the same I expect for all future playable characters. I did NOT expect it to be a slapped on slimmed down bonus mode , very limited in scope. That may have been fine for a "SotN Richter Mode" literally decades ago, but that shouldn't be acceptable now! Likewise, I wonder if the "randomizer" options will be viable for Zangetsu and other character play; given the limits on the Zangetsu mode, it doesn't seem likely.

Bloodstained Ritual of the Night as a core game is certainly solid, but they have really cut corners badly post-crowdfunding. They had a legendary groundbreaking crowdfunding raise for a single player game, attaining all possible stretch goals - so it wasn't like they didn't have the money to do it right! However, mismanagement seemingly started relatively early on and I'm not sure how much of it is 505 or ArtPlay (or IntiCreates for that matter), with an issue that still frustrates me greatly - dropping Linux support.

During crowdfunding Bloodstained was promised to offer Mac and Linux support as core features (not even stretch goals if I recall), and for over 2 years we didn't hear a peep from development about anything - assuming it was going along well. Then 2 years in, there's a very short "Uh yeah we ran into some problems and won't be offering Mac or Linux anymore. Sorry! You can pick one of our other supported platforms instead but no refunds!" announcement. Very little detail on the exact problems, no communication nor petition to discuss with the backers, plus with the way it was dropped - not merely delayed - was a massive insult to backers purchased expecting support for those platforms, especially Linux. Circle of the Moon was also Windows only, unfortunately.

Other problems would come later, including having to ship without many features and promise to include them later. Quality issues with consoles, especially the Switch, seemingly took up lots of time and energy. I fully admit my preference for PC but have no problems with a console release provided that the PC release isn't delayed, treated like a 'second class' platform, or is held back by requiring to provide a parity experience on all platforms. While Bloodstained doesn't have issues with the first or second issues I noted , I would suspect that both the additional time and apparent high degree of effort for the console ports, alongside requirements for parity content, likely impacts the PC version in the third regard.

While delays are unfortunate, I'd much rather developers delay content updates if that's what it takes to provide the features and quality promised. While there are a lot of good things about Bloodstained, the near continual issues and what appears to be cut corners - from the aforementioned removed Linux support to the Zangetsu mode appearing rather barebones without story/progression etc... - there is certainly concern. I have to wonder what the future will hold for the co-op modes, the third playable character, and much more not to mention the potential for any actual newly developed update expansion content (ie expansion style and other DLC that was not part of the original crowdfunding stretch goals, but conceptualized and added post launch). It is frustrating to see all these problems with development and content when the underlying game has such promise, provided developers and publishers wouldn't cut corners.

It's a crowdfunding campaign. At this point, are you seriously expecting things to be perfect?

I was assuming this was going to be similar to playing a Richter in SOTN, so this looks pretty much what I expected. Though an alternate scenario, or a Zangetsu specific area would have been a nice touch.
