So, does this mean I can go online while booted into the emuMMC partition, update firmwares, etc etc and not have to worry about a ban?
Yes.

How do I know if I need them and where to get if I do?
In a nutshell, you need them for piracy. There are some cases though where it might not be piracy such as installing a cartridge you legally own or a homebrew .NSP file.

Wonderful, you just earned another "thanks" Draxzelex.
I only need to get .XCI's able to install and I'll be in full production. I'll keep digging with Tinfoil and Awoo for now.

Quoted from the NS-USBLoader GitHub page:
Also, please go to 'Settings' tab of NS-USBloader after first installation and check 'Allow XCI / NSZ / XCZ files selection for TinFoil' option. This installer can install not only NSPs but a way more formats!

Assuming your sysMMC is clean, you do not have to restore a backup unless you run CFW/homebrew on it. And the launch options in Hekate are pretty self-explanatory. Lastly, that post is outdated as I believe it was made before Hekate had split NAND restore support. You do not need to combine the files into one and use an exFAT sd card; you can keep them in parts and use FAT32.

Also do I need to backup my EmuNAND as well in case anything disappears from restoring a clean SysNAND?

Never go online with an emunand, with the same ID as your sysnand. Because chaching your ID is not that simple. Just don't go online. Or at least don't connect to Nintendo Servers. There are special DNSes for if you want to go online with your Emunand.

I never go online with my emunand. Only with my sysnand. Nintendo has different telemetry systems, so you never know what they know of your Switch.

I cant boot into a freshly created cfw emunand from the default package on sdsetup.com

It boots into cfw sysnand fine. But with emunand cfw it hangs on a black screen after showing the battery icon.
Can someone help me please?

Try holding down the power button for 8 seconds to turn it off. Then try turning it back on again.

emuMMC and sysMMC are separate although you could keep a backup of your emuMMC in case it gets corrupted or bricked.

I don't know what's going on. I did a clean restore of my SysNAND yesterday and now I injected NEUTOS and all the stuff I had is gone. Shouldn't it all still be there since it's separate?

I consider NEUTOS to be a form of malware since its an unofficial fork. I recommend cleaning your SD card and using a fresh download of either Atmosphere or Kosmos.

So I'm completely new to this, I had a basic question. I have managed to enter RCM mode and inject the fuse_test.bin payload which suggests my switch is hackable. I have been reading all over I need to setup and use emuMMC to avoid a ban.

My understanding is this is separate to the sysNAND and runs exclusively off the sd card. What I want to understand is if, say I want to play a game on ofw online. If I boot up the switch normally with the sd card ejected, will I be able to play online? And will there be traces of my 'unauthorised' activities left behind that could result in a ban? Or if I ensure I'm offline exclusively when using emuMMC, will I be (relatively, I know its impossible to be completely) safe in avoiding a ban and continuing online play when on SYSNAND / ofw by ejecting the sd card?

Also what kind of activities will likely result in a ban irrespective of the use of emuMMC separate to the sysNAND, so I know what to avoid (installing .nsp /.xci homebrew etc). As in is there activity that will leave traces of activity that leads to bans even when done exclusively on the emuMMC offline, when I eventually go online on the sysNAND?

Sorry for the very long post

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I have found two suggested hacking guides

"nh-server.github.io/switch-guide/"

And

"switch.homebrew.guide/"

I was curious which is better to follow considering my switch is on firmware 10.0.0

The second seems to be the recomended guide, but not updated for firmware 10.0.0 from what I can tell.

Also is there an updated incognito mode that I can use for firmware 10.0.0?

Thanks in advance for the help.

I purchased a switch that was stuck on boot loop, I took it apart, tested all capacitors - and everything checks out fine. No shorts, on any of the main chips

I changed the battery as it was unable to charge, and wouldn't boot after I drained it.

I tried multiple tutorials online, but was unable to load a new firmware onto the switch. This may be due to not knowing what exact version the switch is..I was able to enter RCM mode though, and Tegra recognized the device. Tried 10.0, 9.2, and 9.1, fusee but none work.

XAW101199~ is my serial # Supposedly it's in the grey area, 50/50 chance of it being patched or not.

My switch is still stuck on boot loop. I don't know what to do.

Hi again,

I had changed my password today for security reasons and on my switch after getting the latest SX OS update, I have to re enter my password but when i do it the system crashed and gives ms a 2162-0002 error code.

Is there any way I can link my nintendo account back onto my console?
