Pokemon Journeys: The Series heads to Netflix as an exclusive

The incredibly long-running Pokemon anime is moving to Netflix as an exclusive in the United States. The first episode of the western release, titled Pokemon Journeys: The Series will debut on June 12th, featuring 12 full episodes of the season, with more to be added "quarterly" throughout the airing season. In Journeys, Ash and his new traveling companion will have adventures all across the various regions of the Pokemon world. In the UK, the series will be available on POP.

Today, The Pokémon Company International and Netflix announced that upcoming seasons of the iconic Pokémon animated series will premiere exclusively on Netflix in the U.S. The partnership kicks off with the launch of the first 12 episodes of the new 23rd season of the series on June 12, 2020. Additional new episodes of “Pokémon Journeys: The Series” will be added quarterly on Netflix for the duration of the season.

“With their tremendous reach and ability for fans to enjoy content anytime and anywhere, Netflix is the ideal partner to premiere new episodes of the beloved animated Pokémon series in the U.S.,” said Emily Arons, senior vice president of international business at The Pokémon Company International. “We can’t wait for Pokémon fans of all ages to continue discovering the spirit of adventure and friendship in ‘Pokémon Journeys: The Series,’ our newest season coming to Netflix this June.”

In celebration of this announcement, The Pokémon Company International and Netflix also unveiled the first international trailer and details for “Pokémon Journeys: The Series” today. Fans can look forward to an all-new narrative following Ash and his partner Pikachu as they embark on adventures across multiple regions in the Pokémon world, meeting new characters and discovering more Pokémon along the way.

“Pokémon Journeys: The Series” Synopsis:
Pokémon Trainer Ash Ketchum has a new plan: see the world! But first, he and his partner Pikachu are headed to the opening of the Cerise Laboratory, a research facility dedicated to uncovering the mysteries of Pokémon in every region. Ash meets Goh, another boy with boundless curiosity about Pokémon, and both are overjoyed when Professor Cerise asks them to become official research fellows. With Ash as determined as ever to become a Pokémon Master, and Goh aiming to catch one of every Pokémon (including the Mythical Mew), our heroes are in for adventure and excitement as they explore the wide world of Pokémon!

“Pokémon Journeys: The Series” will also feature a new theme song written and performed by the band Walk off the Earth. Fans can view a new trailer for the upcoming season and hear part of the new theme song on the official Pokémon YouTube channel.

Prior to June 12, fans can enjoy a wide selection of past Pokémon seasons already on Netflix, in addition to the most recent animated Pokémon movie, “Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back—Evolution,” which debuted globally on Netflix this past February.

I wish that they drop ash and make a dedicated series of pokemon twilight to match the sword and shield games. Ash is so 1998 gives some of the new guys spotlight.

If it was Red I would be happy but Ash no they should have kept the original ending where him and Misty had a kid atleast he would of had honor when he died.

I use Kinopub anyway, so I'm not entirely affected by this, shady as I may be. Still, genuinely excited for anime - whatever material there is looks pretty cool.

After they changed the design so drastically with the Sun/Moon season the anime was already dead to me, so I don't really feel affected by this.

I try not to look too harshly on the anime because, at the end of the day, it’s primarily made to appeal to children, but then I see things like Generations or Twilight Wings and it makes me wish they would make a series that was geared towards more a more mature audience and/or didn’t focus on Ash as a main character.

if you saw the original japanese trailer to mewtwo strikes back you'll know that Pokemon was suppose to end at indigo league as gen 2 GS we're suppose to be the only sequels they planned on two gens of games but then it started to multiply like scorbunnies and here we are today with no end in sight I really hope Satoshi Tajiri written in his will to end Pokemon when he dies like how disney can't recycle Robin williams voice for Genie

God I can't take it anymore with these pokemon shows, they're all the same for crying out loud. Just please, give us some new main characters.
Even if I like pokemon, I can't wait for the day the franchise dies (witch is probably going to be in 8 or 9 years, hopefully)

Am I the only one infuriated by this? Am I the only one who doesn't like Netflix? All my friends say I am.
What's not to like? Overall I'd say Hulu has a slightly better library and interface, but the fact that you have to pay extra for no ads pretty much evens them out. There are a number of original series on both which are 100% worth watching. An adult cartoon from the creator of Adventure Time was just released on Netflix, called The Midnight Gospel. Highly recommended.

Eh, who cares?

Kids can still watch the older seasons on Cartoon Network, at least on the rest of the world, and the series is literally long enough it will take years to watch all episodes, movies and specials.
