Nintendo advises players to not use disinfectant on their Nintendo Switch console

Gear-NintendoSwitchLite_artwork_05.jpg

As the COVID-19 outbreak continues, many people have been washing their hands and disinfecting their belongings on a constant basis. But one object you might not want to be cleaning with alcohol-based cleaner is your Nintendo Switch. Nintendo of Japan's customer support team Tweeted out that Switch owners should avoid using alcohol wipes on their system, as it can "cause the plastic parts to fade in color or deform". Even the use of non-alcoholic cleaners is advised against, as certain ones can still damage the plastic housing or Joy-Cons. Instead, users are recommended to simply use a dry cloth to wipe down their game console.

Or just don't clean it. It's not like the virus is easily transmittable via smear infection.
lol. oh transmission via infected surface is very real. i would avoid lending your switch and keep your
hands clean at the very least. I rather risk a bit of discoloration myself. the surface of a switch can be just as disgusting as your phone. crap advice from Nintendo but they are obviously more interested in their bottom line.

if you don't bring your switch out of the house and you wash your hands soon as you get home or better yet don't go out at all
then i don't see why you need to sanitize your switch at all
the virus is not going to spontaneously materialize , you just need to wash everything you bring into your house

I am only speaking for myself. I am also a frontline worker. I come close to the darn virus several times per day. So my story is a tad bit different

well i would not take my switch to work i would probably leave my phone at home too if you can
my dad got tested positive 4 days ago and is in the hospital on O2 with pneumonia, low grade fever
and can barely talk
they put him on hydroxychloroquine and zinc today
i feel like it is nothing but poison and a huge scam and has no proven efficacy for COVID19 treatment
they had him on azithromycin and ceftriaxone
so now he is on the cocktail plus the ceftriaxone

if you have any time i would take it now if you can , you don't want this shit

I am not taking my consoles to work dude. My point is that given that i need to be more careful than the average person, I have to clean my personal stuff more consistently. washing my hands and bleaching my phone 30+ times a day is tiring. Trust me I am afraid, but people are needed in the front lines.
There is not a single day that i dont cope with my own mortality, but people out there need help.
Looking at people younger than me in critical care is unnerving as well. coming in home daily i have to take a 45 minutes decontamination routine.hell, i had my first test and scare that came negative (thankfully) last month has sucked.

I hope your father survives this. please stay safe yourself

im the guy that fixes the computers throughout the hospital. got a patient room? chances are there is a pc in there that nurses and doctors use for charting in most modern hospitals. nurses and docs, god bless them are pretty reckless with pc equipment. we get several calls to fix pcs in corona virus patient rooms per day.

i will stop deviating the thread and i apologize to the mods for going off track.

As someone who basically dissolved a JoyCon cap during a repair and cleaning attempt with PE-cleaner ...yeah, they do have a point.
But it also shows the issue of using incredibly cheap parts...
The rubber used for the JoyCon sticks is almost as brittle as the one of the very first DualShock controllers...

I pretty much only use the switch in console mode.

I clean the screen and the outside of the case every evening before placing it on its little wireless charger and I take the cover off for a deeper cleaning every week.
