Google is offering 2 months of Stadia Pro for free

kbNTqK4.png

Want to try out game streaming while you're in lockdown? No? Well, Google is offering a free trial for its Stadia Pro service anyway. Those that live in the 14 countries where Stadia is available can get two months of Stadia Pro, and 9 games to try out right off the bat. You have 48 hours to grab the free trial, if you're interested, and after your two months of membership, you'll be automatically enrolled in the $9.99/mo tier, though you can cancel that at any time. Those that are already paying for the service will also find that they won't be charged for the next two months. All you need to do is follow the source link, sign up for the trial, and get the Stadia app.

Normally, Google Stadia Pro users can play games at 4K resolution, but during this time, where more users than normal are at home and using online services, Google will be defaulting games to 1080p, but you can change this if you really want to, by going to data usage settings.

I'm not really interested in this, but if it's free, that's fine :)
Just complete whatever game it is you want within the 2 months... seems doable.
Then just remember to cancel in time.

I know but its not good enough and again.. streaming. NAH! It will failed miserable and waste money that 3rd party will realised it is not that popular someday. Save your money for physical games like newer XBOX and PS5. They will be popular and beaten it easily.

Yeah people need to read carefully.

This is actually Stadia going fully free as was promised all along. You have to buy games, and you are limited to 1080p/60, but you have them for the lifetime of the service, without having to pay any monthly fee.

On top of that, they are also offering 2 free months of stadia pro as a trial. That will get you access to those 9 games and 4k streaming as long as you remain a pro member, which you will have to pay for after 2 months. But if you let that expire, you can still play individually purchased games at 1080p indefinitely.
Whilst this is true, especially the read carefully part, they really shouldn't need to! Yes it's only the Pro that's on offer whilst the actual bigger news is basic is now free to all permanently.... but that bit of the news is sort of hidden away between the lines, and isn't even easy to figure out on the main site, which is just ridiculous: you have to jump through a couple of hoops to get the basic package - download the app on your phone, register, THEN copy your login details over to PC....:wtf: Boggles the mind!

To be honest the OP should've said this, unless they didn't figure it out either (or the basic/free permanently was tacked on quietly afterwards), but then it's so vague....

I've tried the basic package myself last night anyway.... then plumped for the Pro to try out the 'freebies' on there. ...'S-ok.... tried it both wired (better) and wireless, both were actually better than I was expecting! But still Not Good Enough - runs better than fukkin PS Now thank God, but still some games will work better than others, the fact they've got Mortal Kombat and Thumper on there, as if they're gonna be fully playable on it, is frankly hilarious!

Nice. Tbh I'm not interested at all in Stadia (prefering Geforce Now) but since it's usable in a browser at least I wanted to try it out for a few minutes but was not willing to (re)buy any games there.

BWAHAHAH! 4K! Stadia! That's a joke!

Stadia's never been capable of 4K, having broken ALL of its promises surrounding the resolution. It's either locked to 1080p or lower, or it's 1080p upscaled to 4K, resulting in blurry and washed-out visuals.

Complete freaking joke, that statement is. If Google actually wrote that, then they're continuing to scam customers by offering something they have repeatedly shown they are absolutely incapable of doing - namely, 4K as the norm and 1080p due to "high demand", instead of 1080p being the undeniable norm at all times, regardless of demand.
They, by all rights, should be sued into the ground for this - but they're freaking Google, one of the wealthiest companies, so they'll get off scot-free.

Bastards.

Google Stadia:
Is it free? For now.
Is it good? No.
Can I play games I already own? Of course not. That would just make sense.

Geforce NOW:
Is it free? There is a free option.
Is it good? Yes!
Can I play games I already own? Limited due to greedy publishers.

Geez. Why is everyone so vicious? I mean it's free. It seems like no one had ever tried it, but everyone is so elitist they will stomp all over it.
Everybody is always vicious. Gaming companies need to earn their money -- dance monkey dance and all that.
Some also dislike what they perceive it to be (a means of preventing people owning games, though I find it particularly amusing that they will run off and cuddle up to Steam as though it has done no wrong but hey). In this case it was something of a rental service wherein one did not own the games you got to rebuy on it (for considerable sums no less).
The performance of it was less than stellar and anybody that knew physics* knew it would be, quite why google's famously on form engineering department did not know I don't quite know but oh well. Though actually it was not even physics peeps but those that had seen them all before.

*Grace Hopper's version being my favourite example

Though it does also follow that sticking it in a cabinet or an exchange in a city likely will be fine for most purposes. That is an expensive hobby, if one some companies already do (netflix and other streaming services have been seen to do this to avoid backbone bandwidth fees), so seemingly not done in this instance.

Whoa! I'm running 1080p GRID on my Pentium 4 from 2005 and it looks awesome! I am SO glad I didn't listen to the blithering idiots who dissed it without trying it.

AWESOME!
I've been waiting for a free Stadia PRO trial.

Btw, IF you try this, be sure to turn off auto-renewal in Google Play at once.

Thanks for sharing.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I wasn't going to take stadia seriously but wanted to test it to compare to GeForce now performance. but can't signup wants me to pay

Do it via the app instead, the trial works there.

To sensibly output 1080p on a 2005 p4 capable motherboard is a reasonably impressive feat (though plenty of VGA got there, and maybe you got one of the last of the later AGP cards, even if such a toy right now would probably go for a fair bit). That said I am going to sit here and ponder the average power draw of such a thing and then what it costs to run that over something more modern.

It might be free from Google, but with how its eternal 1080p resolution (4K is a nasty, nasty lie, as has been proven repeatedly) eats through peoples' data caps...the ISPs won't be as generous.

Except that, unlike Stadia's vegetative corpse, Steam actually allows players to download their purchased game files, and has promised (yes, publisher promises are worth less than dog shit, or alternatively modern Pokemon games, but still) that in the event Steam closes down Valve will let its customers keep said game files. As long as said customers actually have a HDD or several large enough to hold all of them, anyway.
If Stadia collapses - which is almost certain, due to not only its shit reputation and Google being known for killing off unrewarding ventures - then its customers won't be able to keep their game files, only their "metadata" (which, from what I remember, was never exactly elaborated upon, but was taken to mean save data).

Oh, and a "rental service"? Yeah, no, things cost way too much to be a digital version of Blockbuster or Netflix's infancy, or Video-EZY (if you're Australian). Back in "the good ol' days", rentals used to cost a fraction of the purchase price. They did NOT cost the same as the purchase price, let alone higher. That "rental service" argument is hooey.
As for "Netflix of gaming"...have you used Netflix? While I haven't - no interesting shows on there - even I know that the only cost is the subscription fee. You do NOT need to pay money to watch each separate show or movie, last I checked, whereas you do on Stadia.

Nothing like being forced to pay for games, full price, just to have the privilege to stream games I already paid for.

Google Stadia, please die in a fire

Edit: Also Google is reducing bandwidth in YT videos and they still want us to pay for this?

Yeah, dear Google, fuck off
ya know i was just about to try this free trial until i forgot you still have to pay for the games, thanks dude for that reminder

I'd give it a shot, but can't be bothered. It's like a library with only one 'book' worth reading (in my case: the game hand of gilgamech) and a complex signup method.

Also : not much advantage to the 'play anywhere' when we're all confined to our own homes. Might as well dig in my own backlog of already owned games.
