Okay, first off to you guys....definitely the premier place for all of you gurus.

Anyway, long story short, I had jailbroke and modded a few earlier consoles so I thought buying the ps3 already modded would make my life easier and I would spend some of my corona time installing games for my kids. Not exactly what happened. Next time, I will go through the entire learning process before jumping in. Backwards learning has been an absolute beast, anyway, The console is great and came with 4 games already installed, the newest dex firmware, the most recent mmcm and modman.

The problem: I have tried fat32, NFTS, friggen Commodore 64 tape drives, and have not gotten any of the different package software to recognize the games I have put on them. I know the USB port is not broken because the first day I got it, I had a small game on FAT32 and I was able to access and play it. However, I don't remember what combination of buttons got it to recognize. Since then, I have tried everything. I install the games on NTFS or FAT32 formatted drives (all smaller size, 128 gb or smaller), in all different formats (JB folders, iso, compressed iso via 4g packages for the FAT32). I don't know what I am doing wrong. I guess my questions are as follows:

Considering the current state of modman, mmcm, etc, do I need to worry about NTFS prepping drive still? If not, can I still use NTFS or is my easiest bet to use FAT32? At this point, I don't care about speeds, I just want it to work once?

If I use the recommended format (NTFS or FAT32), what corresponding file type is the easiest to get it to work (ISO or folder)?

Aside from the subfolder of GAMES: or PS3ISO: do I have to name the folders/iso files anything specific (do they have to follow the ps3 numeric naming convention)?

Once I have gotten the USB ready with whatever format you recommend--and this is important--how do I get the PS3 to recognize the files? Unless I am doing something wrong, it isn't as simply as scanning media for games. Please tell me this section specifically, because I feel like this is where I am going wrong.

Please, please, please....if it requires someone giving me detailed help, I will consider paypalling the person for their time. I am that desperate.

Fat32 will always work given that your usb drive is compatible, which is a hit and miss. So if it does not work just use another drive until one works...

Then there is 2 main way to go for playing games. psn games and iso/bluray. To copy a blueray game just put it in and use multiman to rip it that is the easiest.

Also webman for me can read ntfs but I have a large internal hard drive I would not have it any other way in 2020 drives being so cheap you could probable find a 500gb hd for 20$... good luck

Actually, that is one thing I haven't tried. Maybe my two USB sticks are trashed. I will try new ones.

Regarding your recommendation to swap in an internal--are you saying you bought a usb to HD connector and are running an older HD in an enclosure or did you actually install it inside your ps3 (which would be a viable option if I could increase size with little headaches).

My one quick question to you--you say webman can read NTFS for you. SO say I have a USB or HD that my ps3 decides it will read. Do I simply put my iso files in a folder on that device called: PS3ISO? if so, do the games require being named anything special? If not, in theory, I should be able to:
Copy games in ISO format to NTFS USB
Plug "working" USB stick into PS3
Run webman
Scan devices for games

Is it as simple as the above? If that doesn't work, which do you think would be my easiest next step? Use an ethernet between my cpu and the PS3 or wifi--is one easier than the other?

Hopefully, I can solve this soon. It has really been quite a frustrating past week. Thanks again for any help.

For swapping the hard drive you can use one of those "portable hard drives" you have lying around usually easy to crack open and most of them are regular sata drives perfect for ps3. For internal use of course.

Copy games in ISO format to NTFS USB -- .iso folder ps3iso\ "ripped games" in games\
Plug "working" USB stick into PS3
Turn on the ps3--- webman is automatically loaded and drives scanned

Ethernet is recommended for speed but wifi work i guess.

And theoritically NTFS works fine in multiman but I haven't had any chance with that nor I have the need. I got a ext4 drive working tough in there.
