EDIT 09/17/2019: Got everything I wanted to work, posted my answer below.

ORIGINAL POST:

Hey-- I know that this has been asked quite a few times throughout the years, and I think I've read every thread on GBATemp/Reddit on it, but I haven't had much luck, myself.

So, a couple years ago, before I updated my IOS, I was able to get all the USB ports working for Rock Band/Guitar Hero/karaoke games on the Wii through USB loading. Honestly, I'm not sure what version I was at at the point-- but it was back in 2016-ish. Then I wanted to play some new Just Dance games, and I updated my IOS to d2x-v10-beta53-alt-vWii (I installed it on IOS249, IOS250, & IOS251)... ever since then, the more recent Just Dance games work just fine, but anything that involves peripherals out of anything but the back USB ports just don't work. If I try to boot a game up in IOS249, it only allows the one USB port in the back. (For a game like The Beatles Rock Band, that means I can only have a microphone plugged in-- no guitars allowed!) If I try to boot a game up in IOS250, none of the USB ports work. If I try to boot a game up in IOS251, the front ports act like they're working (like, the USB dongles I plug in actually light up for once), but nothing ever connects. Also, if I plug in multiple USB peripherals in IOS251, then it doesn't even boot the game-- it just sends me back to the vWii menu. Confuzzling.

Does anyone know if one of the other versions would allow me to run these peripherals easier? Perhaps I just need to install one version when I want to play one thing, then another version for another? I just don't want to mess things up any further. I'd really appreciate any help that could be given, or if anyone can speak from experience about getting this working? Thank you so, so much, hope you all have a wonderful day!

Hello,

Are your LOADERS up to date ??

Did you test the CIOS version d2x-v10-beta52-vWii ??

Yes, all my Loaders are up to date-- I'm using the modded version of CFG, r1272 of USB Loader GX, & the newest version of WiiFlow Lite.

I DID test beta52, which I was led to believe doesn't allow use of all USB ports, anyway. No change! Have you gotten this to work on your vWii?

Hello.:)

For the ROCKBAND Games you maybe can try cIOS 222 or 223 with Base 37+38 or 223 or 224 with Base 37 with Hermes v4 or v5.
It depends on which Guitar Controller you use.:)

Thank you.:)

EDIT: Please excuse me,I do not read exactly,it is for the vWii as you posted it here in the WiiU Forum.:(
I do not know if my suggestion also applies for the vWii Mode.
Sorry.:)

From what I've heard, installing that cIOS on vWii actually bricks the WiiU, hahaha! Thank you for your help, all the same.

Okay-- since it's been a few weeks, thought I'd just come in to answer my own question: Since I've never seen anyone get all the ports working, I'm going to assume that's actually not an option. Maybe it is for certain models of Wii U, maybe for some, it's not. At any rate, I DO have good news-- while some have said that USB splitters are dangerous, or that you need a really high-end USB 3.0 one with some kind of power supply you plug into the wall, I have video proof that it works with a lame-o USB 2.0 Made-in-China one that I can't even specify the brand of!

(As added notes: This is running IOS249 with d2x-v10-beta52-vWii installed through d2x cIOS Installer.)

I've played it multiple times for long periods of time now with zero problems. Just plug all of the pieces in before you get into USB Loader GX-- make sure they're lighting up on the vWii menu, and you're good. Plug it underneath your USB drive you're loading games off of in the bottom-back USB port!

Also, just wanted to add more important things to this conversation that I personally had not been able to figure out how to do until after I tried to solve these problems:

• First off, don't install beta53. Install beta52. From personal experience, they both allow the same amount of USB functionality, AND beta52 allows EmuNAND to work correctly, which was SUPER important for me, since I wanted to run Beatles Rock Band's now-defunct DLC.

• When you boot up USB Loader GX, press the Settings button (gears icon) and go to Custom Paths, which should be on the second page of Settings-- Global Settings.

• Scrolling down, you'll see a Nand Emu Path & a Nand Emu Channel Path. Set both of these to either a folder on your USB drive or a folder on your SD card labelled "nand".

• Going back to the first page of settings (Features Settings), go to Dump NAND to EmuNand and let it run. It can take a long time, depending on how much stuff is on your vWii.

• Personally, I've dumped my NAND onto both my SD card AND my USB drive, and I switch between the two depending on my needs. (I have more room on my USB, so I installed all my Wii Shop Channel games onto it, but most DLC only runs from the SD card, so I install that to the SD card.) After dumping, you can go up to the fourth icon at the top of the screen & check only the EmuNAND checkmark-box so that you can delete any duplicate vWii channels you don't want around.

• After that, go back to the Features section in the Settings, scroll down & use the EmuNAND Wad Manager. At this point, you can install a WAD from any folder stored on your USB drive or your SD card.

• Through this, I was able to successfully install all the DLC for Beatles Rock Band onto my SD card (there's a Google Drive link to the full DLC wad in a YouTube video on the subject.) & run it in-game again! (To make it work, then you have to go into your individual game settings for Beatles Rock Band, enable NAND emulation, select Partial NAND Emulation & make sure that the NAND path is set correctly. Here, you could actually select SD or USB again.)

Hi, @HomeStarRunnerTron , i'm trying to play rockband with the guitar or drum. Could you play it with usb loader only? Also, wich base cIOS is installed in your 249 slot ? Did you try to run it on Wiiflow? If so, can you give your wiiflow setting to make it work? Can you plug your instrument individually? Is the USB dongle absolutely necessary or if i want to run the guitar, i can only plug the guitar usb dongle? I'M on it actually, and non of the 249, 250 and 251 work. could you put some pic of your setting? Actually, the game only see the mic. but all lights on. Thank you.

Hi! : ) I'm sorry, I'm not always so great at remembering all this technically stuff-- when you say what cIOS is installed into my 249 slot-- I'm pretty sure it's d2x-v10-beta52-vWii. I found it to not work with WiiFlow, personally. USB Loader GX is just better. So, I believe that most of the Rock Band games REQUIRE both a microphone and a guitar to be plugged in at the same time, don't they? So in that case, yes, you absolutely need a dongle. Only one USB port works for peripherals. I could try to take some pictures tomorrow. Could you give me more specific instructions on what exactly you want to see?

HDD (with game) on port 0. NO FLASH DRIVE! only HDD.
USB Accessories on Port 1. if more than one to be plugged, use a HUB. NO HDD on the hub! only the accessories.
use d2x cIOS v8 or r52, with base56 (whichever slot you installed that base). some game requires base 57, so try the other IOS slot (either 249 or 250) in your loader's settings. Having the base installed is not enough, you need to tell the game to use that slot from your loader's settings.

Plug the accessories BEFORE launching the game, if not even BEFORE launching the loader so the console detects them properly from sysmenu for example. v8 and r52 don't have plug&play support. r53 has plug&play support but DO NOT WORK with lot of music games. so, don't bother trying beta version.
base57 does not work with the Mic., you need base56.
you can plug just one accessory without the need of a hub.

that's all.
d2x v8 OR v10 (r52). NOT v10-alt (r53)
base56
accessories in port1.

sources/report from other users working setup:
https://gbatemp.net/posts/8985723
https://gbatemp.net/posts/8351628 If you use the "ion set kit" like that user, please report if it works ONLY with base37 and not with other bases. thank you.
Note that you probably don't have any d2x base37 installed, as no guide tells you to do that. just run d2x cIOS installer and choose for example slot247 base37. then set your loader to use slot247 for that game.

If you have another "drum/mic kit" model, please report here so we can update the compatibility list.
we need the kit model/name, and the working cIOS base you used. maybe even the hub model if you have any specific info and only one works, not others, etc.

Thank you very much for your answer. I'll try it soon with USB Loader since i've never use it from now. Do you think it could work with the games on SD? MY HDD is actually for Wii U games. If its only HDD, i will need to wait for an HDD deal to try it. Base 56 for me in slot 249 could not run with Rock Band in Wiiflow (unless my settings was bad?), maybe it will run in USB loader...

@HomeStarRunnerTron the picture was for your setting if you got it on Wiiflow but You said it seems to not work with Wiiflow. Since i neve use USB loader, it could help me if you give picture of your usb loader settings too! I wii give my result here when its done!

And please sorry everybody for my bad english, i try to make it better everyday! ;)
