If you really want a classic-style controller, then I recommend you get a GameCube controller. The feel is similar to the classic controller, but it has slightly less input lag than a wireless controller. (The classic controller is wireless because it plugs into the Wii Remote.) Although the difference is quite small, it can be significant in a racing game where every millisecond counts!
Look at your game's cover to see what controllers it supports. It should have tiny pictures of them at the top. I think NASCAR Inside Line supports all controllers, but you should probably double-check before buying anything.
