Homebrew Wiiflow plugins - Retroarch dols update?

Hello,

there have been quite some updates on the FBAlpha emulator for WIi through Retroarch, and I was wondering if it was possible to use the newest retroarch dols as Wiiflow plugins? Would that work or the dols need to be compiled as plugins for Wiiflow? (I'm still on Wiiflow 4.x btw)

Do you mean if you can download the latest Retroarch nightly builds and use that as wiiflow plugins?
Yes, you totally can, they will work out of the box.
Beware, though, that if you try to mix dols from different Retroarch versions, your retroarch configuration files will mess everything and you'll run into issues.
If this is what you want to do, you'll need to hex edit the dols following this tutorial.

I could not find a version among the Retroarch Nightly Builds with all the cores working, I'd really like to know if anybody has found one, it's simply impossible for me to test them all.
Also, I think that an updated collection of ALL wiiflow plugins should be imperative.

Last thing: why are you using such an outdated WF version? Wiiflow 5.4 has tons of improvements and fixes. You should consider updating.

That's great news, thanks! I know the neo geo cores have been updated to work with larger roms, that was the main reason

Using 4.2.1 because I had everything working with it - games and emulators-, and I was quite lazy changing everything :-) But now confinement and all, I have some time on my plate and I guess I'll do the upgrade. There must be a serious memory leak on Wiiflow 4 as it keeps crashing after some time

Is there any link towards plugins for 5.4 ? Or can I just push there any dol that works for me and create myself the link to the dols as plugins channels by reusing my existing config files ?

And abusing your time : is there also a bootmii forwarder for wiiflow 5.4 (the one you put on the SD card, can't remember if priiloader or something else) ? I've gone used to this

Regarding Retroarch, I'm only using it for FBAlpha for now (CPS1 CPS2 Neo Mame) - using something else for sega / nintendo / msx / amstrad (actually the one packed with Wiiflow plugins pack).

So I am in the middle of moving to 5.X, and adding plugins one at a time (avoiding using the pack).

So far so good with everything on USB, the forwarder also works - didn't have to change anything.

Covers have been converted,and I'm cleaning my repository at the same time...

Managed to add gengx & snesgx plugins which are working fine, now to FBAlpha via retroarch for CPS1/2 and Neo Geo... I'll let you know!

added a ton of roms for FBAlpha.... Wiiflow is calculating / converting stuff while opening itslef it seems, it's been running for 15 minutes now... ? Hard drive is working...

yes that was because of the 5000 roms I've put there... now I have a black screen when trying to load latest release of FBAlpha, whatever the core, will try to debug tomorrow!

This is true for Retroarch and some other plugin, but not all of them. Some emus required modification to the source code.. it depends on how they work.

Be sure that your fba .ini file has the arguments line like this:
arguments={device}:/{path}/|{name}
You also have to make sure that you're using the right romset for FBA (can't remember now)
Finally, try other versions.
Many newer RA versions introduced new bugs. With Retroarch on Wii the rule to follow is: newer is not always better.

So still having black screens and back to wiiflow menu when loading from Wiiflow
However, when launching retroarch via homebrew then loading the cores in the plugin folder and trying the games, everything works like a charm... !
So something's wrong with wiiflow launching the cores... I'll continue investigating...

[EDIT] So no, some games are working and some are not, whatever the methods. My wiiflow setup is fine, now it's a story of games compatibility...

[EDIT2] So I've managed to get all CPS2 games working yesterday with 2016 cores - so far so good

Guys, is the a way to add a new emulator at the source menu toctrigger a Dol file inside a fat32 USB drive?

Or simply:

If i have wiiflow through sd, can I trigger a Dol file in usb drive at he same time?
