PS1/2 How do i play games off a usb ?

i do have free mcboot and before anyone tells to play off hdd right now both the cable and hdd are broke and even when the hdd worked i had terrible cutscenes and some games just stopped working including my most favorite games it was very annoying, my questions are :
-what do i have to do to the usb like is it necessary to format and what folder do i create ?
-i have a 64gb sd card will it work using a card reader ?

From what I've heard, SMB may be better to use than USB. Presuming you're using a network adapter with ethernet.

i know but i strictly only want usb, i dont even have a computer, i'll be downloading games from my phone then copying them to the usb using an otg cable

There are compatibility and lag problems with USB due to USB 2.0 not being supported. Most routers these days have a USB port you can connect a drive to and act as a NAS which should be accessible from the PS2.

does the free mcboot card come with a wifi chip ? because as far as i know my phat ps2 doesnt have internet

Before anything, I suggest updating to a more recent version of OPL. yours sounds old, as the current one does not have those issues from HDD. Honestly, it sounds like more of an HDD problem.

PS2 only uses Ethernet, no Wifi.

Don't play directly from USB. SMB is much better and can be hosted on any PC on your network.

i cant, i dont have the adapter for fat ps2
i tried putting an iso ps2 game on fat32 usb in DVD folder, i put it in and opl doesnt detect anything, what do i do ?

There are some early PS2 games that were released on CD (thus, would go into the 'CD' folder). You can tell a PS2 CD game by it's dark blue underside.

but arent CD games less than 700mb ? i put spiderman 1, its 2.8gb so i assumed its a dvd but now i remember used to own this game in cd version but it had all the cutscenes removed, anyways i used usbutil and made .ul files right on the usb root, now its working great, if i add new games this way should i just add the .ul files to the root just like that? wont the ps2 confuse them ?

Even if you get this working it wont work any better than a USB HDD did. The problem is that the USB on PS2 is slow and was never intended for running games from.

im playing right now and its very playable, cutscenes are a mess and loading time is slightly slow but thats all

Which are the problems present on a HDD also, which is what I said. Glad you got it working well enough to enjoy it though.

you mean hdd will have it too ? i used to have an hdd on this ps2 installed by someone else, it was connected to the motherboard using a sata cable and power cable, i noticed the cutscenes were very jittery and prone to freezing, and load times i honestly cant tell the difference with this usb

I mean a HDD connected to the PS2 USB ports would have the same problems. A HDD installed inside the bay on the back on the PS2 using either the official network adapter(for ide drives) or an unofficial version made for sata should not have those issues.

This, currently running the sata setup and have no issues with freezing cutscenes or any noticeable difference in loading times.
