Back when they used to be nice for making cheats before we all got good emulators (and sometimes flash carts) with cheat search abilities, or if emulators needed to play catch up. I am told a few official devs liked them as well as they could do limited debugging with them, though they also took to flash carts and emulators later in life.

Today they have no real practical value for anybody really -- emulators have long since matured (and some cases exceeded the original hardware) and it is not like we are seeing new games appear.

Your market is then people that like cool stuff (that is a reasonably sized market), maybe the 2 or 3 people playing in exotic hardware on the DS (think dsserial, though being serial it kind of comes with its own debug options. This then leaving you with those playing with pokewalkers, with the guitar hero stuff and whatever else that conventional cheats on flash carts or emulators make harder to tickle custom hardware with, which is basically nobody), hackers/cheat makers wanting something for the wall of cool stuff (be it nostalgia or I wish I had that back in the day), some kid with a perverse sense of what is cheating or what might be legal (several times we have met those that adamantly refused to use a ROM despite owning the game) and not a lot else.
They were not the most common back in the day but also not the most desirable thing. Never particularly celebrated nor particularly notorious/infamous.

Would be better if you can show it working as well.

I have toyed with getting one myself but I am not going to go pay up for such a thing -- charity shop, car boot or someone just does a £20 and you can have it on a site like this (I could easily imagine you could get more though from someone).

That AR might be overpriced as well but that will depend upon the version it is (later being better). I should also note selling is restricted to the buy/sell area (can't remember how many posts needed to access it offhand though).

Is is a somewhat impractical way of making codes (emulators run everything just fine these days, have wonderful and fast search options, have savestates, have proper debuggers, can fiddle with registers if you want, have live memory viewers and so on and so on) but in the same way people like to make things themselves I can see it being a bit of a hoot.
