Hello everybody, I'm PRETTY confident and trusting of you guy's tutorials and opinions but I have to rely on you guys to make up my mind for me since I'm so weak LOL, so technically I recently went to a local pawn shop and the guy is selling a PS4 firmware version 6.02 for only 189$ controller, cables, and one game included and it's a 1 TB model...so yeah you can see why it's hard for me to pass up. I'm only interested in hacking it for sole purpose of getting free games :gun:there's a hack coming for the firmware 6.20 soon and I want to make this decision before it's too late and I can't buy it because I know everything that's going on with this virus and shit and how rare ps4s with low firmwares are especially at that price.

My budget as of now is 220$ and I'm really tempted because I have both options I can save up to get a hackable Nintendo switch someone I know is selling or I can buy this PS4 for dirt cheap and possibly still be able to buy the switch from this person in the future. I just want a nice hackable console where I'll be able to have a bunch of games and just finally get into the most recent generation of gaming. I want a beefy library of titles for me to play and entertain myself with tbh.

So what do you guys think I should do buy this PS4 and hack it with this hack coming soon possibly this year OR save up and buy the hackable switch. Everything in my being is telling me to buy the PS4 and wait for the hack since that'll allow me to play so many games I want to play in all their glory but I'm not sure guys this is hard for me. What do you all think? Will I even be able to install games onto this hacked 6.20 PS4? Will I ever stop being such an idiot? WHO KNOWS:bow:

And yeah I don't really care about the ps5 rn that's a whole other beast for me to tackle. So don't bother telling me to wait for it.
But thanks in advance tho:wub:

The ps4 has been out long enough that you should be able to look at its library and decide if it has enough games that you're interested in playing. There are also tons of youtube vids showing the difference in frame rates/resolution/draw distances between switch and ps4 (if that interests you).

Assuming you don't own a PC...

You really just need to weigh what genres of games interest you the most. Both platforms have tons of games, and some amazing ones, at that. But are you a Breath of the Wild guy, or a Horizon Zero Dawn guy? Fire Emblem, or Persona 5? Spider Man, or Mario Odyssey? The PS4 also has some good multiplat stuff the Switch won't get, like Shenmue, Resi Evil 2, etc

Plus, if you grab a hackable model Switch, you can get that going fast. With the PS4, you're going to be sitting on it for a while. Switch will also keep getting games, PS4 will probably get patched and further game releases won't work on the older FW?

(Sorry for the long read) I'm going to invest in a gaming PC this summer if I get this job I'm going for, but damn sadly what you're saying is true. I know I can get the switch up and running quickly without much time, effort, or anything like that the most I'll have to do is buy an sd card and I'll still be able to play the games no matter what update I'm on as far as I know but now I'm getting scared. I'm a bit of all honestly I play a lot of everything like rn I'm playing through the persona series on my hacked ps3 persona 3 fes, 4, and 5. But at the same time I want to get into street fighter 5 I've been playing 3 and 4 for so long. I want to play the full version of Catherine, persona 5 Royal, and oh those crispy Yakuza games...I just want to finally own a new gen console to play all types of new games so I know that the PS4 has the crispier graphics and the latest tittles... however! I'm not sure about the PS4 anymore because it seems to be a major pain to get these free games to actually run on it. Apparently you need these things called fake PKGs and there's a very limited amount of those available, the downloads are as painful as always these games being 30GBS or above, you need to be on a certain firmware to play certain games? yeah it just seems like a huge pain in the ass to actually get one running anymore so I don't know I'm at a lost. I really want a PS4 so I can get into these new gen games at decent quality but from the looks of it I don't think that's the best option rn. Unless I'm missing something and getting these games to play on the PS4 is actually easier I'm pretty sure I might just have to save up for a switch and just get my PC. Bummer...BUT THANKS FOR THE INFO

FYI Switch prices (and I'm assuming hackable console prices) are inflated right now but will probably fall off again once the supply chain picks back up:

What about the Wii U? Easy to hack on any firmware, you still could play online for free after you hack it, great backward compatibility with Wii and GameCube games and a lot of Homebrew stuff. Wii u is my favorite home console of all time for a reason.

Wew well there's a new option, I see the switch as superior to the Wii u that's why I'm not really considering it plus there's a lot of titles I'm not interested in Wii wise so yeah :( thanks for the info tho

So, you're saying you haven't finished all the games you already own?

If you're having trouble finding the incentive to play the games you have on hand, then I'm afraid buying more games probably isn't going to help matters. It's sad, but it happens to a lot of people.

Nah it's nothing like that, I just have so many games I want to play so I want some sort of "full coverage" you know like a way to play all these games. Ofc I'm going to finish all my other games too but just because I'm playing one game doesn't mean I'm going to ignore all the other coming out. I always finish my games.

It depends on what kind of games you like. For realistic racing, shooter, open world, sport, VR games ps4 is better. For indie, platform, party, 2d games switch is better. For RPG games both are good I think.
Also you need to take to consideration if you most of the time at home or you usually outside or on the go (not during this period of course, stay safe).
I would pick up switch but it's because I like the family friendly non violent games that on the switch.

Why not? It's not a competition or something.

By the time you've finished all your other games, the games that are available now will probably be much cheaper, and probably have a lot of bugfixes.

Besides wanting things like Persona 5R... I would suggest a Switch. Reason being is that you can get JUST about everything else on a PC. If you are investing in a gaming PC this summer, you will do a better job splitting the difference between platforms to play games on. Now that the PS4 is on its way out, more and more "exclusives" are being ported to PC. Whether they are good ports or not... well lets just say there's been a bit of a history there. I am an avid PS4 fan myself. And I am telling you to go Switch for your current predicament.

Buy an xbox one it will be cheaper and get the game pass best thing you can do it would cost you less than $200

PS4 Downsides you cant play games after December 2018 (considering if they do release 6.20 CFW)

Switch Downsides - Besdies the Mario and Pokemon and Zelda there isn't really much on it except for PS3 ports and if you already have a PS3 why play the games again

Xbox One Upsides + Gamepass a good 50% of 3rd party games are released for free on there and if you get EA Pass you get all the battlefield games (Invluding 1 and 5) with all the sports games and need for speed games it is so much a steal.

I have all 3 so that's why I suggest getting an Xbox One. If you are going into the Gaming PC World ( I have a Gaming Laptop) you can't be cheap on that you gotta atleast minimum invest $1000 you want to look down the road. My Dell G3 I had bought it for $600 when it was on sale but I wish I would have waited to get the GTX 1660 Ti vs my GTX 1050 Ti . My G3 will not support Next Gen Gaming so the best I can settle for is PS4 graphics in 4KHD. I'm not complaining it is what it is. Another thing to consider game cracking is becoming harder an harder it may be obsolete in the future.

It depends on your use case, I'd say. If you're gonna be on the road a lot, obviously the Switch is a great option. After that, consider the kind of games you play. The Switch has a lot of awesome arcade ports, modern arcade-style titles, and first party Nintendo games, so if any of those pique your interest, the Switch is the way to go. The Playstation, on the other hand, is better for playing huge, cutting edge AAA releases.
That said, there is one HUGE advantage the Switch has over the Playstation 4 specifically: relevance. The PS5 is coming out pretty soon, so the PS4 will be nearly obsolete in a few months, whereas the Switch will be Nintendo's flagship console for a while.

Try for a hackable Switch.
This.

The more I hear people talk about modding the Switch, the more appealing the thought of owning one is. Nintendo's online has always been garbage and with recent news of them getting hacked, you might as well do a little hacking yourself.

At least that way you aren't paying Nintendo's chump prices, but you didn't hear that from me

Go for the PS4 and try for a Switch later, PS4 is an amazing system with amazing games (So is the Switch, but the PS4 is at EOL), and if you can hack it then it just makes it 10x better.
