So I've only been in the WiiU scene for a few months and I've been lucky enough to have cut through most of the years of built up data to arrive at a pretty quick and easy way to get most of the games installed on my console.

I have used uTikDownloadHelper to get the files to install via WUP Installer to an external USB. This has worked great for most titles.
However, there are a few titles which apparently aren't available on NUS and/or don't have a Title Key in uTikDownloadHelper.
The one I'm specifically discussing here is Walking Dead.

I have got a copy of a file which was listed as "ISO" format which came in rar format.
When extracted I have a directory structure like so:

├───code
├───content
│ └───video
├───meta
└───save
├───80000001
└───common

Is there a way for me to install (or convert/install) this title on my WiiIU and launch in the same way all my other titles launch?
Namely installed to my USB and launched from the system menu?

If not, what, if any, is the possibility of installing this title in this way?

thanks

This is loadiine format, so you'll need to convert it with nuspacker. Easy to do, but I would recommend you read this thread beforehand to make sure everything goes smoothly in the conversion process.
https://gbatemp.net/threads/loadiine-file-to-installable-deleted-eshop-game.488559/

I just want to double check this with you, because I have been going this route but something doesn't add up.

Poking around initially I found the posts in this thread which talk about some of the games which don't have NUS files:
https://gbatemp.net/threads/release...eshop-for-windows.446565/page-27#post-6874770

Walking Dead is on that list and as I mention it doesn't have a Title Key listed so I can't download it via uTikDownloadHelper.
As I was waiting for replies from my OP, I found this post here:

https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutoria...es-to-usb-installable-format-properly.456721/

It talks of using NUSPacker, but first it has instructions for using JNUSTool with the TitleID and ticket. The Ticket is available as is the TitleID from what I can tell (just no Title Key). When I run JNUSTool, I get output similar to the following:

Code:
No cached TMD found.
Getting missing tmd from Server!
File not found: http://ccs.cdn.wup.shop.nintendo.net/ccs/download/000500001011F300/tmd
Invalid TMD

So I pretty much gave up there as I couldn't see what I could do. After reading your replies I went ahead and ran just NUSPacker with the following:

Code:
java -jar NUSPacker.jar -in "D:\wiiu\The_Walking_Dead" -out d:\test -encryptKeyWith [common-code-here]

I first fixed up the cos.xml like that one thread you linked said (even though it seemed to complete properly on a first run without it, I did it again because it said the game might not play without the permission entries.) NUSPacker ended with something like:

Code:
Generate hashes:
calculating h0: done
calculating h1: done
calculating h2: done
calculating h3: done

Encrypt content (0000000B)
Encryption: 100%
Saved encrypted file to: d:\test/0000000B.app

Content 0000000B packed!
-------------
Packing the FST into 00000000.
-------------
Packed all contents.

TMD saved to d:\test/title.tmd
Cert saved to d:\test/title.cert
Ticket saved to d:\test/title.tik

Encrypted with this key : 13371337133713371337133713371337
Key encrypted with this key : [common-key-here]

Encrypted key : 8AA85B9C6C007E7F39136A572581792A

So it *looks* like it created the right structure, but I'm a bit concerned. It takes me almost an hour or more to copy this 15GB game to my SD card and then to install it to the WiiU HDD, so I don't want to keep trying this if something is wrong.

What I am unsure about based on what I did (simply packing it with NUS Packer) is will it have the necessary Title Key and Ticket information? If so, where would it have gotten it from since I never had to provide one...?
As I await your answers I will try to do the install once...hoping it works. If not, I hope you can't point me in the right direction.

thanks.

As long as you used the right common key, you should be fine. As you'll be running the game with sig patches, title key and ticket don't matter. They can be fake. Let us know if it worked.

No, it did not work. It installed through WUP fine, but in the system menu it showed the icon just as a question mark.
When trying to launch it said something along the lines of the data is corrupted and asked me to manage the data.

Interestingly enough (though I don't know if it matters), the Data Management showed the game as only about 9.5 GB even though the folder created was closer to 15GB. The RAR I obtained was 9 GB and extracted to 15 GB. I assume that in some cases there is reported space that is just empty and can be compressed, I don't know for sure just mentioning it.

Anyway, if there are other ideas on how I can get this. Also, just to confirm this game is listed as a Retail only game, there is no eShop NUS version. Again, I just mention this to make sure this isn't a problem installing it via WUP and being able to play it this way as I did all my uTikDownloadHelper games.

To be clear, the steps I followed to create this were:

1) Edit the cos.xml to add the permissions section as per the post linked above.
2) Create a file called "dummy" in the meta folder and deleted the save folder. Without doing these things NUSPacker gives me various warnings and wont run.
3) Run:
Code:
java -jar NUSPacker.jar -in "D:\wiiu\The_Walking_Dead" -out d:\test -encryptKeyWith [common-code-here]

It then runs seemingly successfully with the output I listed in previous post. Installs find in WUP, but I get the question mark/corrupted data.

Thoughts?

You might have better luck just converting the scene release. It's supposed to be a wud file, so a big download, but always convert fine to installable files for USB loading, from what I recall.

Well, I guess great minds think alike. I was on the same path. Looking on the other thread my clue was that the meta folder was empty. I don't understand why anyone would ever include a release without the meta folder? It appears it is very small in size so I don't see the point.

Anyway, I was able to get a WUX copy from the same site...15GB. However once I decompressed it to WUD and loaded in in uWizard I found out that I *need* the Title Key anyway to decrypt - so that was a totally wasted download as there is no Title Key available.

I found one torrent in loadiine format which appears to have the folder intact, but despite there only being 8 MB of data I need, there aren't enough seeders to grab it. I'd prefer to have the USA release instead of Europe, but even then I can't find a copy of the scene release you mention.

It doesn't look like the USA version was scene released. But even then, hacked Wii U is region free. If you have access to usenet, you can still download the scene release there. Filename is v-twdsi.000 (000 to 064, nfo, sfv)
Anyway, hold on to what you got so far, I'll get back to you later. I'm gonna investigate a bit.

Ok, so I was able to get the scene release. I tried to extract the WUD using UWizard and the provided key file, but UWizard seemed to just stop (crash?) after extracting only about 2GB of the file. I tried this multiple times with same result.

I then found wud2app which not only extracts the WUD, but also extracts/converts it directly to app format so that I didn't need to run NUSPacker on the extracted data.

After this I was able to move it over via SD and install to my USB without a hitch. Game seems to launch fine.

Appreciate the guidance on this one. I think I've got one or two more that I was unable to download directly from NUS that I will need to do this process on - so think I have the hang of it now.

Nice to know that you got it to work. :) What I used was DiscU 4.1b from Crediar. Works fine here too. As it's a european release, and I presume you have a USA console, you might want to use the homebrew Spiik, to improve the region-free aspect. It will allow you to view the manual for the game without spitting an error, for one thing. Have fun!

Thanks. I never knew about Spiik before, will try it. Isn't clear from the synopsis I've seen. Is this something I just enable once and forget? Or do I need to toggle it on after every launch of console?

You need to launch it after every reboot, but only for out of region games, obviously. And if the game doesn't give you any problem, it's probably not even necessary. But I haven't seen a foreign game where viewing the game manual worked without Spiik. I don't know why.

So I ended up being able to complete my torrent with the US release of TWD.
I only needed the meta folder and once I included that with what I had in NUSPacker I was able to successfully install it.

Speaking of manuals though... when I tried to view the manual of the US release I got an error about the Disc cannot be read.
I got the same thing with the EUR Scene release (though I haven't tried Spiik with it). I have verified by the title ID in the .tik file that I do indeed have the US release. Also I can see in the meta folder there is a Manual.bfma file that is about 400KB.

I'll be honest...I haven't really checked the manual for most games...but I tried a few others and they worked.

Any thoughts on that?

If the USA release you got from the torrent came in Loadiine format (code, content, meta folders), then it could have been messed with, possibly breaking some stuff like the manual, I don't know. Try with Spiik. You should be able to view the manual with the EUR game, at least.

Yeah..doesn't work on the scene release either..with or without Spiik. Its not a big deal, I just hope it isn't an indicator of any more issues. I did this process with another game (Rapala Fishing). It was a scene release but it was in loadiine format when I extracted it. I repacked it with NUSPacker and it loaded ok - manual and all.

Hi I have quick question about this exact scene release. It doesn’t appear to be familiar WUD image when I unpacked archive. I don’t see a game.key file, just the list of filenames above. How would you put this in WUP installable format with say DiscU ? Thanks!

v-twdsi.000 to 064 are rar archive files and should contain the wud file. Just right click on the .000 file and choose Open with Winrar (or whatever program you use for rar archives). You probably downloaded a huge rar file, which contained the smaller rar files. You need to unrar these too.

Have you run into file contents like this screenshot for another title from same scene site? There’s a WUD but no game.key after re-extracting the archive contents. I don’t know where to go from here.
