Hi,

Since I'm locked at home, I decided to give a shot at Rock Band 3 customs again. The 1st time I did it I did everything wrong. Following @HarvHouHacker 's tutorial, I first tried loading not a custom song, but just the files already in SZAE (update for Bring Me To Life and The Final Countdown I believe.). Worked fine, of course I couldn't play it but I at least knew it worked.

Then yesterday, I downloaded a bunch of Wii customs from C3's database. Since I'm a noob at customs it took me about 2 hours to get the files and folders named correctly, (see picture 1 for the folders). I then moved the folders into SZFE, and ran the RB3WiiCustomsManager.exe . I got almost 15 error messages saying «The folder (insert folder name) doesn't match with (folder name) (see picture 2.), all for different songs. I still managed to get the APP and BIN files created. I was looking to load the game from an emuNAND on a USB Drive, since my SD card has trouble loading one and my disc reader is broken. So I put the app files exactly at the good place, and here is a description of every try made.

1st try : Game IOS : Use global
Nand Emulation : Full
Nand path : usb1/nand

Result : Nothing boots, Wii says ''An error has occured, Press the EJECT button etc...''

2nd try : Game IOS : 249
Nand Emulation : Full
Nand path : usb1/nand

Result : Same result.

3rd try : Game IOS : Use global
Nand Emulation : Partial
Nand path : usb1/nand

Result : Game loads fine, takes a long time on the DLC screen, says Save File is corrupt so I select to not save, proceeds to SD card menu, and everything works. The game menu takes about 5 minutes to load, about 1 frame per 30 seconds, but works fine in the end. No DLC is showing up though.

4th try : Game IOS : 249
Nand Emulation : Partial
Nand path : usb1/nand

Result : Same result.

I then tried to make a WAD to install on the emuNAND. Wadpacker.exe kept crashing over and over, so I ran the program through the command prompt and got the wad after a few tries. (see picture 3 for Packer_Script.bat). The WAD looked like this into ShowMiiWads. I installed it to the NAND, got an error but it still installed.

I retried loading the game, with Game IOS as Use Global and NAND emulation as Partial. The result was the same for the beginning part, except that when the menu loaded, I saw the ''Adding customs 0/14'' bar. The game then froze and made a static noise. I then retried with the IOS set as 249 and same result.

Could you guys help me?

Ok, I retried with another NAND, and made a new pack of DLC and nothing seemed corrupted. The game launched perfectly, and the ''adding new DLC'' bar worked, saying it added 15 new songs. None of them showed up in the game though. @HarvHouHacker, I noticed a similar thread but I'm loading it on a USB drive, with cIOS 249 and Full EmuNand.

Any help from anybody would be amazing!

You sure the files are formatted correctly? Rock Band Customs are finicky, you need every T crossed and every I dotted for them to work properly. Here are some tips to (hopefully) get your customs working.

  • First, make absolute sure the folders are named correctly. Keep in mind that some hexadecimal numbers are skipped; if unsure, use the RB3WiiCustomsManager.exe copied in each packer from my repo to reveal the true names.
  • WAD Packer crashing sounds like a corrupt executable. Are you sure you have a clean copy? If the ones provided in my repo are not working, you can probably ask in C3 for a fresh copy that you can inject into the packers.
  • SD card not being read and disc reader broken: I hope you mean your computer? If you mean your Wii or Wii U, then you have a problem, as a lot of modding is done through the SD slot. You may want to find a repair/refurbish shop or get a new console altogether.
  • APPs are a pain in the neck to load. There's not enough room in real NAND to load all of them, and emuNAND requires SNEEK or similar to work (I found that out by doing some online searches).
  • Regarding your recent post, how long did it take to load each song? If it was about 2-3 seconds for each one, it should work and appear in the list. If it just breezed right through the list, then it's having trouble reading them. You should have also gotten a "DLC is corrupted" message if it didn't work.
  • Make sure each and every song folder have the files and folders required in order to be read, both "meta" and "song". Pay attention to this part of my wiki for that: https://gitlab.com/HarvHouHacker/ro...-Customs/Packing-Songs#packing-your-own-songs

That's all I can think of to try and diagnose your problem. Other than these things, I'm not sure what else to add, but I hope you find out what you may be missing and are able to successfully make them work. :)

  • I believe my folders are named correctly : first time this was the issue. I made brand new ones and the Rock Band 3 Wii Customs manager had no error showing up.

  • When I'm talking about the disc reader and the SD card, the Wii disc reader is broken ; and the SD Card works fine, but has trouble loading emuNAND. Rock Band 3 + The Beatles : Rock Band say ''Cannot use the item inserted into the SD card slot.''. Apart from those things, the SD Card works great. (it's a Lexar SDHC 32GB for information)
  • Never heard of Sneek before, I'll check it out (as said I'm pretty much a noob at hacking and all.)
  • It took 2 seconds for each song, and they didn't show up at all.
Thanks for the help!

StackOverflow0x/Koetsu mentioned something about songs disappearing because of preview MOGGs (which never happened for me, but it's a possibility). Do you have a preview MOGG for each one? You may want to take them out, rebuild, and test them again. Also, you absolutely NEED the songs.dta, songname.midi, songname.mogg OR songname.bik, and songname.milo_wii files. Anything else is optional. Does that help?

Each song has a preview MOGG, songs.dta, songname.midi, songname.mogg and songname.milo_wii. I will try deleting the preview MOGG. Also I just noticed in my NAND backup, there's this folder called 72394a45 in the «title» folder of Rock Band 3. It has a content and a data folder ; the content folder is filled with .apps and a title.tmd and the data folder has nothing inside of it. Any idea what that might be?

I also checked out Sneek, and the program wouldn't install ; saying ''Error file missing!'', when trying to get the files, then the program would crash.

Update : Deleting the preview MOGGs did nothing :/

Okay, so it's not missing files or MOGG previews. You may want to check and make sure the DTAs are formatted correctly; if they are not, this could be the issue.

The folder should be 735a4a45, not 72394a45. A hexadecimal conversion reveals that it is R9JE, which means this is probably DLC for The Beatles, Rock Band. Please tell me the exact path to this folder, just so we're not merely assuming this is affecting RB3.

SNEEK is difficult to install if you don't know how, so make sure you're following a good guide. I think there's one somewhere here on GBAtemp, but I don't remember where. Check the Wii forums for that.

If you like, you can send me the customs via PM, and I could try to get them working, just to be sure it's not a corrupt custom issue.

My files are in this folder on my USB.

Yeah I forgot about TB:RB, the 72394a45 folder is indeed DLC I downloaded.
https://gbatemp.net/threads/sneek-di-quick-guide.218725/ Is this the tutorial for SNEEK? If yes, should I go with UNEEK since it's for USB?

The DTAs look fine, the path seems right for every song. "dlc/sZFE/0__/content/songs/songname/songname"

UPDATE : I made a new generation of songs (SZJE) and the songs appeared in game but are unplayable and all say “The data from “song name” cannot be copied to the Wii’s memory” : I probably made a mistake in sZFE then... I wonder what mistake I made in sZFE since I followed the exact same procedure...

Generations sZJE through sZME are dedicated to RB3-only DLC. sZAE through sZFE (and the custom generations sZGE, sZHE, and sZIE that didn't exist before customs) are for RB2 DLC that will also work on RB3. You want to stick with the RB2 DLC generations, as there is currently no known method to make RB3 DLC generations work yet.

Almost all of the DLC Packers are available on my repo, and that includes StackO's versions of sZGE and sZHE. I have yet to find sZIE, but this should be enough for thousands of songs anyhow, so you're good for a while.

EDIT: I haven't really done the steps to properly utilize SNEEK/UNEEK, so you're pretty much on your own on this one. If I ever try to get customs working via the EmuNAND APP method, I may modify my wiki to include steps on using SNEEK/UNEEK, but for now, I know the BINs work, so there's really no point in me doing it other than to confirm that it works.

Well still no luck. I made a whole other pack with sZBE, and then I put the BINs in the SD card at private\wii\data\sZBE. I also had the same files in .app format in the emuNAND folder on my usb at the same time. Here are the results :
Regular NAND with SD DLC : ''The data cannot be transfered to the Wii system memory. Disabling SD card mode'' (text might not be exact since my Wii is in another language.)
Partial EmuNand with SD DLC : Same error.
Full EmuNand with SD DLC : Wii and commands freezes, sound still goes on.
Partial EmuNand with .app DLC : ''Downloading content'' bar appears, taking about 1 second per song. No error shows up, no songs show up.
Full EmuNand with .app DLC : ''Downloading content'' bar appears, taking about 1 second per song. No error shows up, no songs show up.
UNEEK+DI .app DLC : Nothing happens, game boots normally, no DLC.

Well at this point if the error isn't obvious I'm gonna give up and stick to the original tracklist :) . I'll still link some pictures of my files if somebody wants to help. Finally : I would like to help HarvHouHacker for taking the time to help me out :)

Note : I have installed the Ticket-WADs previously on the NAND,

Decided I'd give it a shot again. Tried the following methods :
injecting .app files into the real NAND (only made 3) : Of course the Wii System Memory had no space left, so the game wouldn't load the DLC. I cleared some space but still nothing. The songs wouldn't appear at all in the game, not even a "Downloading DLC" bar.

Bin files with an SD Card : "The following content cannot be copied to the Wii's system memory : add-on content."

I got into WiiExplorer to check if something was already in the DLC folder of the Nand (title/00010005/735a4245) and the 00010005 folder that *was* previously there was completely wiped! Any idea what that means @HarvHouHacker ? Hope I don't annoy you.

No, you didn't annoy me. :) Let's see what I can do to help. You may want to reread the steps outlined in my wiki carefully, to see if you forgot anything.

Make sure that IOS 249 is the one with D2X version 10 beta 52, and it's base IOS is 56. D2X version 10 beta 53 alternative may work, but not produce the results you want. There's a program called sysCheck (a more up-to-date, Wii U compatible version can be found elsewhere, if you need it); run it and post the results just so we can be sure you have everything installed proper.

Go through normal Wii troubleshooting procedures, just to be sure this isn't something wrong with your hardware, or that you didn't remove a critical piece of software. Is the disc scratched? Can the Wii play other Wii game discs? Is your SD card formatted properly? Does the Wii produce errors when trying to load channels or game discs? More troubleshooting procedures can be found in your Wii instructions manual.

Your Wii System Menu should be up to date for most RB3 hacks to work. The latest is 4.3. This gives you the ability to read SDHC cards, as well as other features not available in previous versions that can be helpful with hacks (and sometimes a hindrance, but the hacking community has workarounds). If you're running an alternate System Menu (via Priiloader or some other means), check to see if it has the same features as 4.3.

Just trying to explore every possibility. I'll try to think of more if this doesn't solve your issue.

Well my Wii's disc reader is broken, so I load the game from a USB drive. My Wii doesn't have access to Internet ; since I changed the router it won't connect, even with the same security settings. I do have an adapter USB to Ethernet port though, but since I load games and my emuNAND through the bottom USB port ; I don't know if it will work. My two SD Cards are working fine, and so far my Wii never got an error loading a channel or a disc. My system menu is 4.3, and on my UNEEK Wii it's also 4.3. I'll post a SysCheck as soon as I'm able to :)

I haven't done extensive testing on RB3 as a disc file instead of the actual disc, but it sounds like it's not recognizing the songs. Are you absolutely sure you have the tickets installed? If you're using an emuNAND, you need the ticket files there, too. You also need the Wii Shop log files, if using APPs on emuNAND. Make sure you didn't get the tickets mixed up, and that you renamed them properly. sZBE's ticket file should be 735a4245.tik, and the APP folder at NAND:/title/00010005/735a4245/content.

I'm gonna go check if I have the tickets, cause I'm quite not sure, but I do think so. On my emuNAND though everything is here. In the meantime, trying another thing : RawkSD : on Internet Archive you can access the wiki and the installation process, so I'm giving it a try. Will update you in a few minutes :)
