I have download both gdrive and mega link and try it, both are same size 3.07GB. still the same. I will the try anothet mega link which is only 2.17GB.

if you're talking about this link

that's not for a usb install
Yes, you are right. Indeed rufus can write .tar.xy format.
Before that I have try both mega/gdrive link but cannot boot up. Just black screen after load payload from ps4gentoo.github.io and PS4 power button stay white color.

If anyone has successfully installed Gentoo to internal could you please write a step by step guide.

I've never had any luck installing to the internal hdd.
I've tried the original psxitarch method but I can never get the linux.tar.xz to extract and install. It always says 'cannot open linux.tar.xz, the file does not exist.
The files are obviously being read from the hdd because it would not boot to rescueshell if they were not there.

that exactly happend to me
what i did is pasted psxitarch.tar.xz again (and renamed it to linux.tar.xz) and ran the installation again (intall-hdd.sh)i think it resumed because it didn't take as long
and it worked (i think i did it multiple times)
good luck

Do you remember what you used to rename it? Ive tried with Lapy's explorer and via FTP but whatever I tried it still wont see the linux.tar.xz in /user/system/linux/

I'll keep on trying, mabe I'll get lucky.:)

I had no luck with it so I'm gonna try a different approach.

Install regular psxitarch v2 to USB.
Mount the PS4 HDD in psxitarch linux.
extract the linux.tar.xz to the relevant folder on the PS4 HDD from within psxitarch.

I'll let you know how I get on.

UPDATE:
Dam it!! I cannot mount the PS4 HDD in psxitarch. It says ' Sorry, Your PS4 model is not supported yet!:nayps3:

Do you know how to mount the PS4 HDD in the regular Gentoo USB linux?

It's been a while since I did this but from what I remember I couldn't get a usb stick to work so I had to use a usb hdd.
I used this blzimage and initramfs.cpio PS4Kernel.zip and Payload 5.3.7 (Gentoo 3GB) from here: https://ps4gentoo.github.io/

Unfortunately usb hdd doesn't work too. Same as usb stick. :(
I thought ps4kernel.zip is 4.14? Is it really bootable under 5.3.7 loader on ps4gentoo.github page?

@Changhui
You can test if linux will work on your PS4 without plugging in a usb drive.

Got to the ps4gentoo.github.io page in your PS4 browser without any usb plugged in.
Run Hen, Press the PS button when Hen loads.
Open the browser again and select the Gentoo payload.

  • If your PS4 LED changes from white to red/blue this means that linux will work. If there is nothing on your screen this means that your display is the problem.
  • If your PS4 LED stay white or your PS4 shuts down, this means that your PS4 is not compatable with linux.
  • If you see the linux #rescueshell on your screen, this means that your USB is formatted wrong or you are using the wrong files.

You can also test the above by seleting the debug payload instead of the gentoo one.

I'm not sure if it was strictly necessary to copy the blzimage and initramfs.cpio from that zip I did this on my own quest to get Gentoo up and running. It could have been just the updated loader that fixed my issue, but I thought I should mention it.

yeah, the gentoo loaders from ps4gentoo.github.io use a bzimage and initramfs from inside the payload itself. It doesnt use the ones on the USB.

Maybe I'll help someone if I post what I did.

I installed gentoo like psxitarch, formatted my usb-hdd to FAT32, copied kernel + initframs by Iguy0 ( with Baikal chip kernel patches ), then copied ps4gentoo01-2020.tar.xz (2,17GB), changed name to psxitarch.tar.xz and proceed installation same as psxitarch distro.

I used VRAM1 PSXITARCH LINUX V2 LOADER from X-PROJECT B-) to boot into rescue-shell.
