Hello Curtman,
Considering your 93MB/s acheived with a rockPi 1Gbps Eth and USB3, I don't see how Orange Pi or RockPi S can even compete. The limiting factor won't be the USB 2 interface but the 100Mbps Eth interface maxing out at 12 MB/s. If we would have a 1Gbps Eth and USB 2 we would get above 30MB/s as the USB 2 maxes out at 60MB/s theoritically.

Do you have any other experience with board having 1Gbps and OTG?

Thank you,
Armandooooo

I would like to find the best ratio between performance and consumption.

In my opinion with either of them, it will take a few seconds to load a game. You asked about performance and cost. If you want performance go for the Rockpi. If you want to save money get the cheaper one. Both will work. Don't get a raspberry pi zero, it wont.

You have a micro usb in the "OTG" port plugged into a PC? What trouble are you having? The process should be logging into the orange pi, getting it to mount your NAS, creating the image file that will contain the FAT filesystem, and then enabling the OTG mass storage by inserting the g_mass_storage kernel module on the orange pi.

Did you see this guide? It's basically the process I followed, then adapted. (Edit: But obviously start with a distro for the Orange Pi, not the RasPi)

Hey Curtman, just wanted to check on this. But is this possible to do in handheld mode? From what I am understanding you say you have your RockPi 4 connected to your switch dock. So, all you're doing is transfering files from your PC to the RockPi 4 storage wirelessly? But, you also mention using an xkey so it makes me believe you're accessing your Rock Pi 4 from both the Switch and Xbox wirelessly. What I'm trying to achieve is wirelessly mount XCIs even in handheld mode, but I don't see how that's possible if you always have the RockPi connected to the dock? Sorry, I just need some clarification. Thank you!

I doubt it would work undocked. If you're plugging a RockPi or OrangePi in with a wire, it's not very wireless then.

On the switch it only does anything in SXOS. You can install XCI's to the system, or "mount" them and use them as if they were a gamecart that is plugged in.

"But, you also mention using an xkey so it makes me believe you're accessing your Rock Pi 4 from both the Switch and Xbox wirelessly."

Again, I'm not using this with our switch consoles currently, I've gone back to using Atmosphere and so we are using the RockPi and OrangePi on Xbox360, and a Wii U currently.

However, recently I was playing with uLaunch, and discovered that it has an option to enable USB 3.0 in its settings. I'm curious about whether this is possible somehow in SXOS, because as far as I have seen the RockPi stays in USB2 mode.

In my setup, nothing is wireless. Wireless is slow. The RockPi plugs into the console, and has a Gigabit ethernet plugged into it. The Rockpi accesses image files on a server and makes them appear to be a USB hard drive to whatever console it is plugged in to.

If you are not using SXOS, then you might as well use a NUT server over USB instead. The only advantage to this is XCI mounting, you don't need a physical hard drive plugged into the switch.

Hi Curtman,

I did not see page 2 coming... That is why I was not replying... Sorry about that.

I am looking at rk3328 soc, and little things like ROCKPI E and NANOPI R2S, which have gigE, usb2.0 OTG and built in 28nm manufacturing process (meaning more power efficient). I have looked at other but they are using allwinner H5 but is not manufactured anymore.

Hard to buy at the moment in switzerland.

Thank you.

This is incredible! Theoretically, what would it take for an Android to do a similar job as the RockPi 4?

Presumably running Termux, connected to switch dock via USB, and wirelessly to xci server..
