The Last of Us Part II delayed "until further notice"

TLOU_P2_Box_Art_2.png

This is, surprisingly, not a late April Fools joke. PlayStation and Naughty Dog have announced that The Last of Us Part II has been delayed, indefinitely. According to the development team, the game is nearly finished, and is in the bugfixing process, but the delay is due to "logistics beyond our control" that prevent the game from having the launch experience that "our players deserve". Iron Man VR has also suffered the same fate, being delayed until further notice. Prior to this announcement, The Last of Us Part II was set to launch May 29th, after other previous delays.

Update: SIE has made the difficult decision to delay the launch of The Last of Us Part II and Marvel's Iron Man VR until further notice. Logistically, the global crisis is preventing us from providing the launch experience our players deserve.

Since it is sony and not naughtydog, i expect the following reason:

Game is delayed because physical stores are close due to zombie virus.
Hence the sales will tank significantly and they lose more money in the long run and release when everything is open again.

It is a business decision, nothing more, nothing less.
And i agree with them tbh, sure game is delayed, and that sucks for people who were looking forward to the game, but in reality, customers do not matter, sales do. This is with every company, not just sony mind you.

I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt. I assume you're not dense enough to not realize that their employees are not considered "essential" by local government officials and literally cannot come into work to finish this project. Movies and TV shows have been put on hiatus too. That's a VERY costly thing for a business to do. And a very necessary thing too. I am very much aware that "the safety of our profits is our number 1 priority" is every corporation's mantra. But these corporations consist of human beings. And they are subject to the same stay at home laws as the rest of us. And not just Sony employees, mind you.

more like to shift it over to ps5 too
I highly doubt it. There will be an up port for the PS5 for sure, but Sony isn't stupid, they're not going to completely cancel the game for PS4.

I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt. I assume you're not dense enough to not realize that working from home is 100% possible for the vast majority of the work game developers do, especially when a game is sitting at it's final stages and they're just bug crunching as they claim. Literally all they have to do is bring a dev kit and a workstation home and remote into their servers, which wouldn't be difficult in the slightest for a company like Naughty Dog, and use voice chat/screensharing if needed.

Eh, I couldn't give less of a crap. I've never liked post-apocalypse, and I've never liked zombies, and I've never liked female protagonists.
Sure, it sucks for those who wanted it, but for those who didn't? Not exactly news.

Normally news like this would annoy me, but given the current circumstances, I'm okay with this.

Could it partly be a marketing thing too? Like when was the last time you saw promotional material for this game. Its probably not the best time to promote a game about a dark pandemic apocalypse.

You've got to be a seriously entitled prick to get worked up over this kind of thing, especially with all that's going on in the world right now - an outright cancellation would be slightly more deserving of venting dissapointment, but outrage and disgust is going overboard.

I've got so much in my backlog, across the multitude of systems I own, that game production could cease in its entirety and I'd still probably have enough to last me the rest of my life.

Are you pissed :lol:the game is a system seller

When they release the PS5 it will sell like hot cakes. It will sell out for months just like the switch and ps4 did. They don't have to give AAA games away for free to sell the console. They will have a free game/bundle when the next black friday comes around, or when the sales drop. And you want a free year of PS Plus on top of that? Not a chance of getting any of them for free. Let alone both. Literally a month after the console release :P

Thers no guarantee it wil sel like hot cakes as noone knows what the launch titles are gonna be like and for the next few months after but if Sony and naughty dog can come up with a nice bundle deal then the ps5 wil hav a guaranteed great start and thts what you need at launch even if it means taking a little loss

I don't. Waste of money, considering none of that paywall money goes to third-parties with online servers. Even if it's "free", it's still a subscription to a paywall that only exists because of Sony's greed (and was first started by them and Microsoft with the PS3 and Xbox 360). No thank you. I'd rather go to the optometrist and get those stinging pupil-dilating (rendering me unable to read text on my phone and more sensitive to light) eye drops every single day than get PS Plus/Xbox Live/Switch Online.

This. I've got games sat in a pile that I want to play, games I've finished and want to play again and even then I seem to discover games I've never considered on a regular basis that I need to add to my backlog.

With every massive pandemic in the past 150 years, there has been a huge leap forward in the electrification of the Earth . In 1918, late fall of 1917, radio waves were introduced around the world. Every time you expose a biological system to a new electromagnetic field, you poison it. You kill some and the rest go in some sort of suspended animation. Interestingly, they live a little longer but they are sicker. And then in World War II, the next pandemic begins with the introduction of radar equipment around the globe, covering the entire globe in radar fields. The first time people have ever been exposed to it. In 1968 there was the Hong Kong flu and it was the first time, the Earth has a protective layer called the Van Ellen Belt that essentially integrates and then divides the cosmic fields of the Sun, Moon, Jupiter and so on to the living creatures of the Earth, where humans placed satellites that emit radio frequencies into the Van Ellen Belt and within 6 months we had another viral pandemic.
Why viral? Because people are poisoned, they excrete toxins, which resemble viruses. People think it's a flu epidemic.

because of course during a pandemic when everyone is forced to be at home, video games would have bad launches because of all the people unable to play video games

like, cinema releases, i get you
but fuckin' video games?
