The Last of Us Part II delayed "until further notice"

TLOU_P2_Box_Art_2.png

This is, surprisingly, not a late April Fools joke. PlayStation and Naughty Dog have announced that The Last of Us Part II has been delayed, indefinitely. According to the development team, the game is nearly finished, and is in the bugfixing process, but the delay is due to "logistics beyond our control" that prevent the game from having the launch experience that "our players deserve". Iron Man VR has also suffered the same fate, being delayed until further notice. Prior to this announcement, The Last of Us Part II was set to launch May 29th, after other previous delays.

Update: SIE has made the difficult decision to delay the launch of The Last of Us Part II and Marvel's Iron Man VR until further notice. Logistically, the global crisis is preventing us from providing the launch experience our players deserve.

Sounds like an excuse to keep working on the game more than anything, seeing how digital distribution, y'know, exists.

Dunno why they couldn't just say "We wanted to work more on the game, sorry", but eh whatever floats their boat I guess?

I see some people don't see one thing.

This is SIE decision to postpone release, not developers.

really understandable, yet promising to not delay it ala naughty dog style like uncharted, anouncing it for february just to delay it a few days after the announcement... and now again a delay. should've just done as Neil said originally, announce the damn release date when you are 100% sure about it.

I mean I'm glad, they can work without the crunch now, and I'm damn sure it'll be a masterpiece once it's out, yet it low-key kills (at least my) excitement for the game itself, delay after delay.

With how many other good games are releasing left and right, I'm not bothered at all by this delay. Just means more time to dedicate to P5R, FFVIIR, and Animal Crossing.

Since it is sony and not naughtydog, i expect the following reason:

Game is delayed because physical stores are close due to zombie virus.
Hence the sales will tank significantly and they lose more money in the long run and release when everything is open again.

It is a business decision, nothing more, nothing less.
And i agree with them tbh, sure game is delayed, and that sucks for people who were looking forward to the game, but in reality, customers do not matter, sales do. This is with every company, not just sony mind you.

Think about it. Most people (in the USA at least) are on lockdown/without work right now. All these people are going to want to save as much money as they can to pay rent, buy food, essential supplies, etc., for the next couple of months. If they release the game in may. Not as many people will buy it, than releasing it ay any other time. Most games make the biggest splash on release when the hype is high and a billion websites talk about the game.

The issue is not how to get the game on your PS4 but how many people will make the decision to pay $60 for the game when they are barely scraping by.

Well that's the last delay of this for me, I'm straight-up shoplifting this game now. Keep delaying this game, and I'll steal enough copies to make into houses for the homeless.
