Hello, and welcome, to my “Ikenie No Yoru” translation patch for Wii forum.

Some of you may know me from my previous (and first ever) translation patch, which was for the game “Earth Seeker”, also for the Wii.

“Ikenie No Yoru”, which can be translated into “Night of the Sacrifice” in English, is a Wii game developed by Marvelous Entertainment and published by them on 24.03.2011, in Japan only.

This is a very “Japanese type” horror game, with a plot that will remind you of the two first “Evil Dead” movies (group of friends in an isolated house, an old curse which takes possession of some of them…)

It also has the unique feature of (optionally) using the Wii Balance Board, which proves to be quite effective “terror-wise”.

Now, as some of you might already know, I’m not a native English / Japanese speaker, which means I had to rely on personal work and research to translate the game.

Not to mention that the text was coded in “Big Endian” which, for those who are familiar with it, meant I had to squeeze the English dialogs to fit the number of Japanese characters used.

Although this time I was lucky enough to find a partially translated script made by someone named “Chelsea”, and double check my translation when things sometimes became unclear: I’d really like to thank her for this!

Nevertheless, I think I managed to create a cohesive translation patch which stayed true to the original: as usual, if you find any mistake or typo, please feel free to contact me and… DO NOT DIE!

A video of the 7 first minutes of the game (didn’t want to spoil too much):

PS : You’ll find that the patch is very heavy. That’s because the script is actually scattered into 80 different files, which all must replace their Japanese counterparts. Please refer to the method in the README, as the replacement is actually very easy and fast.

Yours truly.

Wow! This is really huge news (at least for me)!. I've been following the Ikenie translation "progress" for some years now, and now you just put it out there!

I wish I could try the game right away, but sadly, I'm still in my cozy little homeoffice... :D

I hope you'll like my work then, I'm counting on you to give me feedback since you're the only person I met who cared that much about the game as I did !

Just please be patient! I have two children at home and thus generally little time to play... ;) I'll give my best :)

Awesome! You are amazing! I can't believe how apparently fast you got this one made.

I got this game years ago because of its Balance Board support. Can't wait to play it now that it's in English. It is so cool - especially in the Era of Coronavirus - to be getting (Brand) "new" Wii games! Can't thank you enough.

Thank you everyone for your messages.

Just found out that the "save game issue" (the game doesn't boot if you don't have a save file on your wii) was resolved with Dolphin 5.0-6983.

So there is a possibility that some people use the patch without importing the save game first (since they won't need it)... and will have to rename the characters, whose names will be in Japanese in V01.00!

Therefore, I published a V.01.01 (full patch and just the update) for you to download : of course you can still just use V01.00 with the save file which has English names on it... but I'm a bit of a perfectionnist and couldn't stand the idea... :hateit:

Thanks a lot for this @Brand Newman
I played this game some years ago (even without knowing a word of Japanese) and I really liked the game. I just couldn't complete some of the hard episodes because I didn't understand the conditions of some characters. Judging by the pictures and the video you have done a great job. Thanks again for this :)

Hello, and thank you for the cover :)

Yes the game is totally playable on real hardware (it's primarly intented to be actually, since this is a Riivolution patch).

I sent you a PM about submitting your nice work to https://www.gametdb.com/, I think it's the best option for your cover to get recognition !

I'll let you read it for details.

Have a nice day, and thanks again !

ahah, funny how the cover has trembling letters :P
and good pictures, subtitles and catch phrases.

It should be added to gametdb without problem.
if you could also make a disc version it would be nice.
if needed, I can submit them, I have an account there.

The cover looks great, good job. Shouldn't be better to use the same font Brand Newman used for the title screen?
The japanesse name is not very visible (maybe the letters border should be thicker) and you wrote Night of Sacrifice instead Night of the Sacrifice.

@Brand Newman I don't know if it's easy to do and It's not very important really, but would be possible that the Wii Mote screen that appears at the beginning appear in English? (Or even better, in the console language like in many other games).

Quite a perfectionist aren't we? Well I can't blame you, I'm the same... My guess is you might be able to mess with the "main.dol" file, like I did so the names of the characters wouldn't appear in Japanese (something I discovered AFTER releasing the first edition of the patch, since Earth Seeker worked totally differently ), but it's just a guess.

Or it could be related with console detection, since to my knowledge the text appears in gibberish on every non-japanese console (and doesn't on Dolphin).

To be honest I'm not sure of what I would be doing there, so if someone has a suggestion and does some tests on a modified ISO I'm opened to it : but in the end, I think it's more related to game identification than to modifying text per say.
