I am currently using CFW on emuMMC which is a copy from sysNAND. The sysNAND is a clean one and I backup it already before. Because I initialized the sysNAND again, do I need to backup the sysNAND again in order to create a new emuMMC? Or I can just keep one copy (the very first copy) of sysNAND backup then I can initialize as many time as I want for the sysNAND?

My ultimate goal is to backup the emuMMC with Nintendo account signed in. So that whenever I need to initialize the emuMMC again, I can simply use that copy (with Nintendo account signed in) (Restore using ODIN). My problem is that I didn't do the backup of emuMMC before (I will backup the emuMMC partition using ODIN), but now I want a fresh emuMMC with Nintendo account.

I assumed that if I want a fresh emuMMC with Nintendo account, I would need a fresh clean sysNAND with Nintendo account, then I can create an emuMMC using it. The question now is: Do I need to perform another backup of the sysNAND (because I initialized the sysNAND)? I did the backup already when I got my Switch.

  • Do not follow video guides. Anyways, you would need to partition the SD card for emuMMC if you want to use emuMMC. Whatever option you want to use is up to you
  • Going online with a hacked console can result in a ban
  • Personally, I do not like autoboot as you lose out on the unique features in Hekate. Its also only useful for booting just one profile. If you want to boot any other modes, you have to manually do it anyways
  • Follow this text based guide instead
You can update emuMMC or sysMMC in any order. However updating to firmware 9.0 introduces an update to the cartridge slot. This update is irreversible and prevents you from using cartridges on firmware versions below 9.0. To prevent this update, the nogc patch is used which prevents you from using cartridges on firmware versions 9.0 and higher. Effectively, you have to choose whether you want to use cartridges on firmware versions below or above 9.0.

The bootrom of patched consoles are unable to accept any unsigned payloads.

---- Thanks very much Draxzelex for taking time to reply ... Regarding "Going online with a hacked console can result in a ban" ... can I be banned if that console just uses cfw ???- if i never want to use Nintendo services (eg the stock firmware / eshop etc on that console) - I have two switches - I can use the other one for all Nintendo services/ cartridge online games etc ?

Hello ,Im thinking of buying a moddable Nintendo Switch console but I want to know first if i decide to mod it will I be able to for example play a pirated game while offline and then switch to playing a purchased online game while also keeping the banning probability to a minimum. Also how easy it is to switch back and forth to online and offline gaming.I ve read something about using a clean sysnad for online and a hacked emunand for cracked games.

It really cant be this hard can it? I have atmospehere running, all I am trying to do is backup 2 games I own, and I cant get it to work. I want XCIs everyone just says, use goldleaf, use nxdump use blah blah blah, you need to dump the keys, but none of that works and there is no tutorial to actually show you how. and half the ones out there are years outdated. How do I backup my games so I can run off of the SD card?????

Before I start modding my switch, do I need to backup any files?
Backup NAND and Boot files with hekate. Also backup keys with Lockpick RCM.

If you have atmosphere running, why do you want XCI files? You can't mount them, you can only install them with Atmosphere. Also what do you mean by "none of that works"? Do you receive an error message? If yes, please attach it here.
By the way: Have you tried this?

Have been wanting to update from 8.1.0 to 9.X for several months.. I use SX (with exfat) and do not use emunand. I posted a question here but was a bit confused about the responses I got. Generally I'm concerned about the game cart update and unsure what needs to be done with that. I successfully used choi twice before to go to 7.0 and my current FW.

I've seen conflicting info on this and was ideally hoping get linked to a good tutorial since this update seems slightly different from my previous ones.

The cartridge slot update is nothing new. There was one in firmware 4.0 that one applied prevents cartridges from being used on firmware versions below 4.0. Now I don't know how this affects .XCI files but the cartridge update on firmware 9.0 has the same effects as the one on 4.0 except the restrictions apply to playing cartridges on firmware versions below 9.0. This update is irreversible and as far as I know, SX OS does not block it but Atmosphere does. The way Atmosphere blocks it is via the nogc patch which prevents cartridges from working on any firmware above 9.0. Effectively, you would need to decide if you want to use cartridges on firmware versions below or above 9.0; you cannot use cartridges in both scenarios. The only reason one would care about the cartridge slot being updated is in case they wanted to downgrade in the future such as if an untethered coldboot exploit came out on a lower firmware.

If you don't care about being updated, then just update however you wish. But if you do care about the cartridge slot being updated, then I suggest switching to Atmosphere to prevent the update from being applied.

Haven't used Tinfoil in a week, but when I went to use it today it said the software was corrupted, so I then deleted it. Used SX installer and could see Tinfoil as a downloadable option, so dowloaded it but it still wouldnt work. I decided to leave it and went to JKSAV to back up one of my games to find my Nintendo icon within (and every icon on a folder within the app) has a picture of a fat guy in a prison jumpsuit-anyone know what the fuck this means?

So I have my switch on Airplane mode and haven't used it in a while. OFW is 8.1.0 and Atmosphere is 0.9.2

If I want to update to latest OFW and ATM, I should:

1-Download latest atms, replace on sd
2-Get and download FW files from *somewhere*
3-Update OFW with Choidujour?

Thanks I'm a bit outdated.

Those steps are fine except for the fact that ChoiDujour doesn't support any firmware above 6.1

I went with 9.1.0 and 2.9.4 sx os. Choi seemed to install the same as it has in the past for me, but am now not booting up. I get the Nintendo and then Switch splash screens and then SX OS error 2168-0002. I can hold volume up button and get to SX menu but cannot boot into OFW or CFW. When I go to the payloads file it says no payloads found. Did the bin get deleted during update?

You don't have to update your eMMC (SysNAND) if you don't need it for online. You can create EmuMMC and update it. Unpatched consoles can be hacked on every firmware.

Hello.

Is there anyway to "transfer" lets go pokemon and such to sword and shield via pkhex for example and with them appearing like they are legitimately transferred from home?
