'PONG' to get an RPG game this spring

As far-fetched as it sounds, the iconic game PONG is getting an RPG sequel of sorts titled PONG Quest. Atari made the news public today, calling it a "humorous new RPG reimagining of the flagship arcade classic PONG".

PONG Quest will have you explore dungeons loosely based on other classic Atari titles, and battle other paddles with special balls in classically-inspired PONG matches! The title features a single-player adventure, multiplayer battle modes, and the following highlights:
  • Paddle Customization: Design and personalize your own Paddle avatar with fun clothing, accessories, and more.
  • Powerups Galore: Over 50 specialized PONG balls, each with their own unique attributes, grant players the ability to make their bounce-backs fiercer than ever.
  • PONG for All: Engage in multiplayer mayhem with up to three other players, each with the ability to use specialized PONG balls, creating unpredictable twists.

In PONG Quest, you’ll explore a fantasy world as you encounter a variety of paddle opponents in energetic, RPG-esque battles! Special unlockable PONG balls add new depths and strategy to the classic gameplay putting a fresh and modern spin on the original.

Developed by Chequered Ink, PONG Quest is slated to launch on Steam, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 for $14.99 USD this spring.

About time. Jeez, we've been asking for a Pong RPG game for years. I just hope it lives up to everyone's hype.

I'm still holding out hope for a monster collector Pong game where you can collect and train at least 50 different Pongs. But this will do for now!

And that is why you are not king swinging dick businessman with all the good ideas that will make millions.

I mean you will want to create original ideas, in original franchises that tell an interesting story and have some mechanics that challenge people along the way. Maybe try thinking outside the box next time.

Personally, I'm hoping for a Dark Souls style Pong game that makes me regret being born

Great idea! I remember the pong remake on the PS1, and it was pretty fun. 4 player craziness with each person taking either the top, bottom, left, or right. It worked really well.
