[RUMOR] Report claims Super Mario Galaxy along with other Mario games will be remastered this year

Nintendo's mascot is celebrating his 35th anniversary this year, with some possible remasters on the way to mark the occasion, if some rumors are to be believed. News website Video Game Chronicle issued a story claiming that Nintendo would be releasing "several" major games, which would include "most of the Super Mario back catalog, remastered for the Nintendo Switch". VGC's sister site, Eurogamer, also corroborated the story, with their own sources hinting at Super Mario Galaxy being one of the remastered mystery games. Yet another reporting site, Gematsu, made its own separate claims that Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario 3D World would be involved, alongside a brand new Paper Mario reveal. Only time will tell if these rumors turn out to be true, but they certainly would be major announcements, if so.

[UPDATE]

The original story has been updated, with the outlet providing more concrete details from their alleged source. Supposedly, Mario 64, Sunshine, and Galaxy 1 will be released as "a special anniversary collection", instead of just straight ports. That release will be followed up with a Deluxe version of the Wii U's Super Mario 3D World, featuring new content. Finally, a new Paper Mario game is rumored, with the site claiming it'll be a "return to the series' RPG roots".

SUPER MARIO SUNSHINE - That would be so great! The title is so underrated. What a waste, that it was only released for the GameCube, who performed so poor in matters of sales.

If it's real, I hope it's not just a straight "we put it on Switch"

If there are significant upgrades (better graphics, widescreen, maybe bonus content and QoL changes), I'll be excited for this.

then what about that rumoured "every generation in one game" what was the codename for that? couldn't imagine it'd be a terrible game like usum
That was rainbow and that was the codename for Sun and Moon. The every generation in one game has been a baseless rumor since generation 4 and will never be a thing

Nintendo seems to not invest anymore in new titles and seems they don't even believe fully in their own system by only giving us one port after the other. An example would be they just don't seem to care anymore is anouncing metroid prime so many years back with a single image and we still haven't gotten anything else besides that many years later. Wasn't only Metroid Prime but they anounced a lot of games during that time that we still haven't heard a single thing from or even got.

don't see what's wrong with a 3d mario collection. considering the anniversary is coming up soon, it'd be a fun surprise

Mario All-Stars 3D Edition:
Super Mario 64
Super Mario 64: The Lost Levels
Super Mario Sunshine
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Super Mario 3D Land
Super Mario 3D World

we all know sooner or later before the Switch 2 is revealed all of these will come out to brainwash all of us to not submit to PS5 and Xbox Series X Temptations
FIFY. Also it's bit too early for a switch 2 don't ya think

Seems too close to April 1st.. I would bet that’s it’s completely possible one or two remasters could come this year, but not a ton. But it seems to come from reputable sources, either way, I want it to happen.

If they were to happen though, they’d probably be full price.

Mario Galaxy had an HD release on the nvidea shield tv, I can see them porting it to switch. I'm actually surprised we haven't had a port of 3D World yet. There was also that Mario sunshine-esque summer teaser posted by Nintendo last year, maybe it was a hint at a remake or HD remaster for Sunshine they're working on. And I can see n64 coming to switch online with Mario 64 headlining. All seems plausible enough and I'm sure they'll do at least 1 of these things for the 35th anniversary, but all of that happening seems farfetch'd to me.

This is certainly interesting, i'll be looking forward to it if it's real. (I need proof to see if it's actually happening)

If Nintendo does the latter then you can expect 5 individual 60$ releases this year. I'm sure they would sell a lot but 5 3D Mario games all this year is overkill. This is why expect like 3 60$ bundles:
1) 64 / Sunshine with Odyssey graphics
2) Galaxy 1 / 2 upscaled
3) 3D World Deluxe with 3D Land levels

I grew up with Nintendo and used to love them, but can see them in a different light now, very much like Sony.

With Microsoft killing it lately (hopefully they don't drop the ball, it benefits everyone if they follow through), their new system may put pressure on the likes of this reselling and reselling and reselling.

Of course I'm unsure, as I doubt most debs would be keen to miss out on this too.
