Well that's something I found on my wii the other day while I was trying different sd cards. Had one setup for homebrew from years ago that I found. That would be nice to have gamepad support for.

But it would be nice if the emulators that was made for the wii just was ported over to wii u OS instead. Though it won't happen, mostly cause
  • it seem easier to just leave it on vwii.
  • it been patched to use gamepad support. (Not all, but most popular ones have.)
  • Retroarch dominates everything.
As much as I don't want to admit it, retroarch dominates everything and it seems it will continue to do so. I don't have any personal against retroarch honestly. It works, it has tons of support and features all top of the line emulation "cores" that some systems won't even dare grace with its presence. (Is the only way you gonna run Genesis plus GX on anything that's not a gamecube or wii.) But I prefer having dedicated emulators for use. I like the uniqueness of each one, having its own identity and simple to understand functions.

I will never try to discredit retroarch because it does the job it needs to do. I just really would appreciate if it wasn't a "Must Have" just to use specific emulators cause it's not available for the device I want to use it on. Also not all "cores" are available on all systems. Comparing the list I found when using the wii u is lower than the one on my android. :ninja:

I'm with you on that. I use retroarch, but only for emulators that don't really exist in some form on the Wii U with Gamepad and pro controller support. Like when I want to play GBA, NES, SNES, Genesis, or Playstation games, I'm booting VBAGX, FCEUGX, SNES9XGX, GenplusGX, and WiiSXR from my Wii U menu, since they all have all those features, and in my opinion they boot games quicker than retroarch and are much more user friendly while still being feature rich. Heck, check out my Wii U main menu screen:

Retroarch is there (the bottom right one, labeled as Arcade+), but then most the other devices listed are all vWii homebrew with the Wii U features I need (except the DS, that's just Loadiine filled only with a ton of DS games, and PSP, that's the Wii U based PPSSPP emulator).

But again, with a setup like this, I never have to go to the vWii menu, and all the vWii emulators have all the Wii U control I need. (Except the Neo Geo emulator down there, GXGeo, it has Wii U pro controller support, but not Gamepad support, and obviously the Wii channel, which is really just USBLoader GX).

Im curious about having a setup like yours but is it worth it if i already have everything setup on an original wii system?

I wish we could use Wii U Pro Controller for Wii VC Injects instead of Wii U Gamepad. That would be my biggest wish.
Playing Wii Classic Controller supported games with Wii U Gamepad in itself is fine but that controller is big and cumbersome. But if Pro Controller support is somehow added then it would be perfect to just sit on a couch with Pro Controller in hand and not having to be bothered by Gamepad.

I mean I still have my original Wii with a bunch of emulators as well, hooked up to my old extra TV, but I prefer the Wii U takes on the same emulators because you can play with the Wii U pro controllers or on the Gamepad with the Gamepad. But to each their own, if you don't care about that stuff, then I'm not gonna tell you this is a setup you must have.

Agreed, you'd think that since we can get Gamecube games to play with Wii U pro controllers and the Gamepad that we could Wii games that at least play with Gamecube controllers to be playable with Wii U pro controllers. But apparently it's not as simple as that :(

I am not in USA or in any country that has huge Nintendo fans. So it specially difficult for me to find any nintendo accessories. I put up an ad to buy classic controller for several months and couldn't find it anywhere. I ended up importing several Pro controllers and Classic controllers from US. I even had to import several Wii Remote and a Nunchuk before. Otherwise they are just not sold or found here i live. But only I got one Nunchuk and need another for my GF to play multiplayer with, so I probably need to import another from US down the road.
Would be nice to be able to play Wii games with just Pro controller since i i usually tend to keep my Gamepad in more safer place. If that one I break, i will have to buy one from US and that is usually involves big waiting time for delivery and shipments tend to get lost on the way. Also buying from US, i wouldn't be able to test.

I don't believe Wii games will ever work with Pro. Too complicated because Pro is meant for Wii U and not for vWii. Is it theoretically possible someone could go in and do the work and make it happen? Yes but considering we're 3 years into the next system after Wii U I find that highly unlikely.

Not to repeat myself but I recommend using Wavebird for that instead. You would have to buy the Wavebird if you don't have one of course and you need a Mayflash Gamecube adapter but it works great with Wii injects that support classic controller.

So it is true? That Gamecube controller works with Wii games acting as classic controller?
How is the problem with L and R buttons? Gamecube controller only has Z button instead.
What uses can I expect of Mayflash Gamecube adapter? Does it only used with Smash Bros Wii U and Nintendont besides Wii injects? Does the adaptor work with Switch or other consoles?
I read in Nintendont thread that some adapters have problem with it and generally seen recommendations for using original Nintendo Wii U Gamecube adapter. Does this Mayflash adapter legit work without any issues with Nintendont or Wii Games? I have used Dolphin Sensor bar and Magic-S Pro adapter from them and liked them for what they offered.
I have been thinking of buying Gamecube controller. But how different is Wavebird from regular GC Controller besides one being wireless and other being wired? Wavebird one looks bit bulky tho. Is there new one being sold? Buying one used is quite risky for me since I would never be able to return it.

ZL button is on the adapter itself which plugs into wiimote. Not perfect but at least it gives you all the buttons. I know it is supposed to work with Nintendont, but I use a DualShock 3 with a different mayflash adapter (Mayflash Magic NS) for Gamecube so I can't comment on people that said it doesn't work with it.

Mayflash Gamecube adapter basically allows you to replace all games that work with Wii Classic controller with a gamecube controller. That means all Wii injects that support classic controller, and WIi U games that support the classic controller. But another reason I use the Mayflash Magic NS which was meant for Switch but can be made to work on WIi U with Hidtovpad, is because it mimicks gamepad. So that gives you practically 100% compatibility with all Wii U games even games that only support gamepad. It also works with DS injects, N64 injects. My gamepad never leaves the stand anymore because I have other controllers to play all the games I want without it.

I cannot comment on if you can get a new Wavebird nowadays. I have had one for years.

Doesn't seem that anything new is being worked on. Emulators aren't being updated anymore and it seems like everyone has moved to switch or other systems. Is it safe to say the Wii U scene is dead?
