Hi (and i apologize if i asked something that was already asked)

While moving stuff around the house, i found the old Wii console i used when i was a kid, and i would love to make it work again for my kids.
I did search and found some things that might help me, but its better to ask rather than breaking the console.

So, i am running now a 3.3E firmware with a very old version of Homebrew. I did not even see the console for at least 10 years (i guess). I tried doing a regular update from the system, as it shows i have a update waiting, but that fails after 2-3 seconds.

How can i update to 4.1 or 4.3 and then mod with ModMII or any other tool. I just want to be able to add some games on a HDD or USB stick and let me kids consume their energy.

Thank you,
Mike.

He might not remember what he installed 10 years ago.

there is no specific homebrewable version.
Mine is still on 3.2E and perfectly brewed.
the version is only the "system menu" version, that you can even skip entirely if you want (for example I do skip it, I boot directly into HBC)

Anyway, nothing wrong in updating it instead of keeping old file versions like me.
I suggest you just use modmii and choose "I want to resoftmod" or something like that, it's the main option.
it will generate a guide for you to follow based on the answers you'll provide when asked in modmii (current version, target version, etc.). You can skip any "neek" related features, it'll be for later.
it will also generate files to both update to 4.3 AND update your needed files to do homebrew.

after that you'll have to reinstall HBC to update it.
modmii will guide you through everything.

if you have questions of difficulty, ask here before doing anything wrong :)

PS: avoid using flash stick. they are really badly compatible with Wii. it can only feel like it would work, but you'll have issues you'll want to fix. a lot of people still hope for a fix instead of just using hdd.

Thank you. While waiting for feedback (being a engineer), i started messing with it so i can see what i was running. I managed to find out i had Priiboot (0.3 if i recall) and BootMii (with IOS30), very old versions, and still had HBC installed. I also did an update to 4.1 (i had a tool on the sdcard) and got over a error i had with code 32004 that was coming up when trying to official update from 3.3/

After the first update, i was able to put it on 4.3 with official update, and modded the console using Letter bomb, installed BootMii, HBC, Priiboot (and did a nand backup), installed USB GX loader, and patched the system to accept usb games.

Now, my biggest issue are games, as i no longer have the old hdd. Right now, i have my kids playing Duck Hunt which i downloaded from Homebrew Store and that's about it. Ah, and some sport moves using the Balance board which was still in the initial box :)

Thank you both for your answers. Next step, if someone can recommend, where do i get some games to help kids get over this virus issue happening these days.

In terms of homebrew games, http://wiibrew.org is a great place to look.

In terms of retail games, we can't share those here, but they aren't hard to find online ;)
