Out of curiosity what can not64 do or do better than wii64?

Hello! Is there any way for me to put my games onto the main Wii Menu instead of going to the Homebrew Channel, loading up a USB Loader and then loading the game? I've heard of WAD files but im not sure how to set those up.

I believe people nowadays use the tool known as WiiGSC

Hi,

I just bought an used Wii that is already softmodded but I think that everything is probably outdated. I had some problems trying to load a HDD on USB Loader GX (it would ask to format my HDD everytime I loaded it, but after formating it the partition would appear as only having 60GB of free space, even though it was empty - a 500GB partition) and when I was finally able to actually open USBloader, I tryed to play Skyward Sword but my wii would reset and go back to homescreen.

I just started learning about softmod about two days ago (when I realized that whatever was happening inside the wii wasn't working exactly how its supposed to) so please bear with me.

Here's my syscheck:

I just started learning about softmod about two days ago (when I realized that whatever was happening inside the wii wasn't working exactly how its supposed to) so please bear with me.

Here's my syscheck:

Hello.:)

Thank you for the sysCheck,it says a Lot about your Wii.

Before you do anything, please check if you have Priiloader installed.
Please Press and HOLD the RESET Button on your Wii and power it on.
You should get into Priiloader Menu.If not please install it first.I hope it works I am not really sure the latest v0.8.2 works on your Wii.You maybe need a patched IOS36 before you can install it.

So:

Maybe the easiest and safest Way is to use @XFlak ´s ModMii:
https://gbatemp.net/threads/modmii-for-windows-official-support-topic.207126/

This Tool updates your Wii and if you like many more Things.
It maybe will suggest to update your Wii to Version 4.1U.
I remember @Cyan has also an 3.2U Wii so it is maybe not necessary to Update the Wii´s System Menu.:P

Do you have an SD Card attached to your Wii ? If yes, then you maybe use this further please because I am not really sure if bigger SD Cards are working with your Wii´s System Version 3.2

If you have installed ModMii you can use your sysCheck to bring your Wii to an Up to Date Status.
It also gets the Priiloader for you,a WAD Manager and of course the HackMii Installer to update your Homebrew Channel to Version 1.1.2.

or

Maybe this next Steps should be sufficient to get the USBLoader GX and Wii Games loading to work.

You can use the d2x cIOS Installer and install the Custom cIOS -d2x -v8 -final
into Slot 249 with Base [57] and 250 with Base[56].

Then please check your HDD how it is formatted (FAT32 should be a good Format).
If you have NTFS or WBFS.....should be ok too.We do not want to forcing someone to his Luck.:D

Please use the WiiBackup Manager to transfer your ISO´s/Games to your HDD.
http://www.wiibackupmanager.co.uk/downloads.html

Please check the correct Port where the USB HDD is connected:
index.jpg

Maybe also needed:
Please check the USBLoader GX of the latest Version v3.0 r1272 or r1271.Please do not use the Update Option inside.
Please download a clean Package from here:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/usbloadergx/files/Releases/New revisions (3.0+)/

I hope there is something for you.:)
Please ask if you feel unsure or maybe when I have explained something not clear.

Thank you.:)

Thak you for your quick response. ^_^ I have a few questions before moving further though.

So, I downloaded ModMii as suggested and it downloaded a big list of patches through Syscheck. Priiloader wasn't installed so it's in the list ModMii downloaded, along with MMM, Hackmii installer and BootMi SD files. I also downloaded the latest version of USB Loader GX to include to the apps folder.

Here's the list of patches:

As you said, it is suggesting me to update my wii to version 4.1U. Should I update it or should I exclude this file during instalation? I'm asking your suggestion because I really don't know what difference it would make...

Do you have an SD Card attached to your Wii ? If yes, then you maybe use this further please because I am not really sure if bigger SD Cards are working with your Wii´s System Version 3.2

Yes! I do have an SD attached to the Wii and it's only 1GB space - and it's full. What should I do about it? Do I format and use the same SD card to copy the files ModMii gave me or should I try and use a new one (what I'm asking is, do I need the files that are inside the SD card right now?). I have a clean 4GB SD card but it's SDHC and I've seen somewhere that it's not recommemdable to use those on wii.

Thank you again! ^_^^_^^_^

The first and maybe relevant Question from you to proceed:

The Support for SDHC Cards and bigger than 2 GB comes with Wii System Version 4.x.

So it is your Choice if you need it or not.:)

Ok, so I'll install 4.1U version. Then... can I put only SystemMenu_4.1U and priiloader in the old SD, install both and put the rest in the new SDHC?

Plus, what can I do / should I do with the old SD files?

Here's what's inside of it:

Did you also get your personal Guide from ModMii ? It is generated on your Needs and your Settings and will also saved in the COPY_TO_SD Folder. It will guide you which Steps are first.:)
(I can not say what comes first, maybe the Wii Update but please refer to your personel Guide from ModMii).

After the System Update to 4.1U you should use your new, bigger fresh FAT32 formatted SD Card and put the downloaded by ModMii Applications and WAD Files like in your personal Guide suggested on it.

And later it is maybe a good Idea to look for newer Versions of you Applications or newer Homebrew.:)

- USBLoader GX
maybe also
- WiiFlow Lite MOD
- Configurable USBLoader
- Wiixplorer
- SaveGame Manager
- WiiMC
- Emulators
.....

This depends what you need.

Thank you.:)

make sure you install the system menu together with the corresponding system menu ios (iso 60; 70 and 80 to be safe) before rebooting or you will get a menu brick.

And later it is maybe a good Idea to look for newer Versions of you Applications or newer Homebrew.:)

- USBLoader GX
maybe also
- WiiFlow Lite MOD
- Configurable USBLoader
- Wiixplorer
- SaveGame Manager
- WiiMC
- Emulators
.....

This depends what you need.

Thank you.:)

So, I installed all the WAD files my personal guide suggested and was going to install priiloader and I got the message "Recommended to install correctly IOS236... IOS236 isn't ES_Identify patched : error -1029, aborting mission..."
I believe I have to install IOS236 again, but I can't manage to find that file anywhere on internet, it's been deleted everywhere I try. :( Does anyone have a suggestion?
okay, forget that, I found it on ModMii, sorry. I'll install it and come back with my results. :P

make sure you install the system menu together with the corresponding system menu ios (iso 60; 70 and 80 to be safe) before rebooting or you will get a menu brick.

I was able to install them all toghether. Turns out that snes folder had 500mb of game roms so I just deleted that to get some space. :)

I tryed to play Skyward Sword but my wii would reset and go back to homescreen.

Sorry I'm late.
just wanted to tell the problem was because of old cIOS version.

Zelda Skyward sword is a Wiimote+ game, and all wiimote+ games contain a video to explain how to plug the Motion+ accessory to your old Wiimote.
when you launch the game it verifies if you already watched it. If you never watched that video, the game re-loads into that video at boot, but also reloads the IOS.
If you learn how the Wii is working, each app has a "required IOS" which is loaded before launching the app. The video requests IOS56 (for example, it can be another one) which doesn't contain USB redirection for USBLoader because it's not a cIOS, losing access to the game.... the console return to system menu.

cIOS d2x v7 added an option to disable and block IOS reloading (it's called "IOS reload block" on loader's options). to prevent the video from loading a non cIOS, keeping the current one for the video, keeping USB access. after the video is played, the game's main.dol is reloaded again and launched.

You could have bypass that "video reloading" problem by loading it manually yourself once. (called "alternative dol loading" in usbloaders), forcing the loader to boot that video.dol instead of game's main.dol.
you watch it, the console memorize you did. then, back to the usbloader you disable "load the alternative dol" and the game will notice you already watched that video so it won't load it and continue to the game.

The best solution is still to update cIOS d2x to v8 final, as you'll encounter other games which contains "dol reloading", such as Metroid Prime trilogy (a menu, with 3 game reloaded based on your choice), or Sam&max (each chapter is a new dol), or games like SSX or red steel which have the "logo and boot sequence" separated from the main game executable.
before d2x v7, lot of games needed the "alternative dol" booting method to launch the actual game executable.
For few known games (we had to hardcode each known games one by one), USBLoaderGX had an automatic prompt at game launch with nice names ("Metroid Prime 2" instead of mp2.dol to find in the hidden alt dol menu). It's disabled if you have d2x v7 or newer.
of course we stopped updating these hardcoded launch menus since d2x v7 release, so only old ones prompt the user. Zelda is not one of them, v7 was released at that same time.

I guess we could delete these outdated menus and old checks to get more memory for new features now.
