I was installing JKSM to backup my save files, and I installed it through FBI. Everything was fine until I tried running a game to test it out, I think it was Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. Then, I was hit with an error:

An error has occurred (ErrDisp)
Error type: card removed
The card was removed.
Press any button to reboot.

I assumed that my SD card was loose or something so I took it out when my 3DS was still on, and then it reverted back to like a clean new 3DS.

After that I wasn't sure what to do. So I reset the 3DS, and all of my games are now gone, FBI is gone. There are some programs on the main screen that I never added on there that just show up as a black box, and when I start it up, it has the same error as the ErrDisp as above.

I'm not sure if me removing my SD card when it was still powered on cause all my programs to disappear. However, prior to that, I still had the issue of not being able to start up PMD because of the ErrDisp.

I'm on Luma v9.0. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Clean the pins / connectors. Don't remove sd card or game cartridge when your console is turned on. Can cause damage or conflicts.

Since recently picking up and tinkering with cfw on a 3DS, I have had this happen as well. It scared me for a bit. Then I took at the internal SD to plug it into my laptop and see if anything had changed. Nothing had, so I plugged it back in and everything was back to normal.

While I had some initial worries, turning the 3DS off and plugging the internal SD out and back in again did the trick.

Sorry for the late reply!

I don't think it's the 3DS SD card slot being dirty or anything or at least I'm not sure. I went to the data management and it said that my SD card still has plenty of slots available.

I know removing the SD card when my console is turned on can damage it, but I removed it on accident because I received a popup saying that there was no SD card inserted. So I thought the SD card was loose or it wasn't in at all. I pushed on it, and that's when the SD card popped out, meaning it was in the entire time.

I've tried that a couple times already and it doesn't work. I don't know what to do at this point.

Check if your SD card is fake, faulty, or dying.

Thanks for the help!
I'm currently on the last step and waiting for H2testw to finish.

However, when I was following the quadruple reformat step, I skipped the guiformat, since it kept saying that the card was being in use even though it isn't. I wasn't sure how to bypass that error.

A question I had though is that if my SD card turns out to be faulty, then is it as easy as transferring all the files on my old SD card to the new SD card and everything will be fine like before? Or would I have to redo the entire crack?

You should be okay with 1 less reformat. The purpose behind quadruple reformatting is explained in the post below its link.

***

When guiformat doesn't reformat the card, the way to eventually get it to is to go back to Windows File Explorer, reformat the card in NTFS, and then retry guiformat again. This usually does the trick to get it working.

***

If the current card is found to be bad, buy a replacement card with the same amount or bigger GB capacity than the original. It has to have enough free space to hold all your folders and files. Just make sure that the new card is also tested in H2testw. Due to rampant counterfeiting of flash memory products, protect yourself from consumer fraud. Repeat steps 1-3 for the new card.

Check my signature for a replacement SD card. Most Amazon listings contains a range of sizes from 32 GB to 256 GB. If yours is a [ o3DS / o3DSXL / o2DS ] system, microSD cards can be used with a micro-to-standard adapter.

The H2testw finished and it said that there were no issues found. Is it safe to transfer all my files back to the SD card and see if I still have the same error?

Yes.

4. Delete the *.h2w test files. Copy everything back to the SD card.
5. Verify that your Nintendo 3DS folder is still intact where it has a single <ID0> parent folder and a single <ID1> child folder. See this example image.
  • sdmc:/Nintendo 3DS/<ID0>/<ID1>/
    • dbs/
      • import.db
      • title.db
    • extdata
    • title/
      • 00040000 (games)
      • 0004000e (updates)
      • 0004008c (DLCs)

I'm still having the same issue as before, the ErrDisp. I did notice that when I went into the ID1 folder, I don't see a title folder. I assume that's not normal?

Did you preform a System SettingsOther SettingsFormat System Memory?

No, not that I can remember. I have two 3DS. I wanted to use this one to check if JKSM save files would work and how it worked in general because this 3DS has a bigger storage in the SD card. I started up a random game to see if there was a save file in the first place, and then I was going to proceed to backup the save file with JKSM. Then, when I started the game Pokemon Mystery Dungeon that was when the error first occurred. That's when I removed the SD card when the console was powered on because I thought it was loose.

By resetting the 3DS I meant after the error, I just turned on the console and turned it back on and that's when all my programs turned to black boxes.

:(

I think the unsafe removal of the SD card while your 3DS was still running corrupted your data. The missing title folder in <ID1> means all your games, dlcs, updates, saves, and extdata are gone now.

The ErrDisp could be explained by how the 3DS tries to populate the HOME Menu with your list of games from the database files (title.db & import.db), but with the titles no longer actually installed on the SD card, that means your 3DS panics trying to load but can't find their banners and icons.

Another cause of the ErrDisp is that data corruption affected the *.db files themselves.

I see.. well that's unfortunate. I'm assuming there's no way to fix this?

I'm not sure what to do about FBI either because that disappeared as well.

You basically start all over again from scratch. Delete the defunct Nintendo 3DS folder. Upon the next reboot to HOME Menu, the 3DS should make a fresh Nintendo 3DS folder where the error should go away. Here's a CFW starter kit if it helps to quickly repopulate your homebrew apps; in that post see the quick tutorial video in how to use Rosalina menu's injecting Homebrew Launcher in system titles. You can also GodMode9 inject and restore FBI in Health & Safety. From now on, start backing up all your SD titles' saves + extdata with Checkpoint, JKSM, and/or GBAVCSM. And no more unsafe removal of the SD card while the 3DS is still on!

If the Homebrew Launcher is still available, you should be able to boot the FBI.3dsx from there, should you not?

@Usagyuuun mentioned having Luma3DS v9.0, so that gives a bit of clue that how long ago her 3DS was hacked. Since she states no longer being able to open FBI, this probably means she was using the CIA version of the app. I'm guessing it's been so long since the 3DS was hacked that she's not familiar or forget about Rosalina injection and how to use 3DSX.

I hacked my 3DS almost 2 years ago somewhere around June/July of 2018. I followed a YouTube tutorial on how to hack it, so I'm not familiar with anything.

You basically start all over again from scratch. Delete the defunct Nintendo 3DS folder. Upon the next reboot to HOME Menu, the 3DS should make a fresh Nintendo 3DS folder where the error should go away. Thank you so much for your help!
I'll be starting from scratch, so do I continue only deleting the Nintendo 3DS folder or do I delete everything on my SD card?
Is it okay if I were to follow the instructions from your post:
Normally, most of us are going to tell you to follow that guide at the beginning and to the letter but seeing as you've attempted it. Well, here you go...

The restoring Luma3DS CFW (boot9strap) for those who've installed it before, lost their SD setup, and mostly forgot how any of it works, Shortcut Instructions.

1A. Reformat the SD card in FAT32 + (32768) 32 KB * cluster size using guiformat (Windows), GParted (Linux), or Disk Utility (Mac).
- or -
1B. Reformat the SD card in [ Format: FAT32 | Cluster Size: 32 KB * | Partition: Primary | Disk: MBR ] using MiniTool Partition Wizard (free edition).
- or -
1C. Quadruple reformat the SD card.
  • :!:Warning (MiniTool Partition Wizard): Do not install the Lavasoft Adaware Web Companion (bloatware).
  • * Optional: If the SD card is 128 GB or larger, you may instead reformat it in FAT32 + (65536) 64 KB cluster size.

2. Recommended: Check the empty card in a full Write + Verify Test with H2testw (Windows), F3 (Linux), or F3X (Mac).
  • If the result comes back clean without any hardware issues, delete the *.h2w test files.
  • If there was a reported error, replace the unreliable card.

3. Download the CFW starter kit - 03.20.2020.7z archive and extract the files in the SD root.

4. Select (x) Show NAND or user string in System Settings in Luma3DS v9.1 configuration.
  • If you're new to Luma3DS, have this as the default setting until you're more familiar what each one does.
  • I highly recommend you don't select the last two options like this:
    • ( ) Set developer UNITINFO
    • ( ) Disable ARM11 exception handlers
luma_config.png

  • :!: Note: This release contains Luma3DS v10.0.1 placed in sdmc:/luma/payloads. Luma3DS v9.1 is kept as sdmc:/boot.firm for compatibility purposes.
5. Follow Sections II – VIII: [3ds.hacks.guide] Finalizing Setup

Here's a tutorial video in how to Rosalina inject Homebrew Launcher:

6. You should have access to FBI through HBLauncher by now. The rest is up to you refamiliarizing yourself how everything works.
  • Optional #1 : This archive contains both *.3dsx and *.cia sets. Refer to the Update Changes Log for information about the homebrew titles. For homebrew apps not found in this kit, check out TinyDB.
  • Optional #2 : You can Rosalina inject into the Homebrew_Launcher_Wrapper if you like having a dedicated HOME Menu icon.

@Usagyuuun, maybe I should be more careful about telling you what to specifically delete.
  • Go in the sdmc:/Nintendo 3DS/<ID0>/<ID1>/ directory and delete only the dbs and title subfolders.
This is in case you still have any important extdata. There's also the Private folder voice recordings from Nintendo 3DS Sound and photos from Nintendo 3DS Camera.

Leave everything else on the SD card intact.

Edit - You can copy & paste (or update) your current collection of 3DSX apps, boot.firm, boot.3dsx, etc. with the newer set from the CFW starter kit. Just make sure to keep files that are personal or important to you like the themes and roms.

Okay, so I just delete that specific folder and copy and paste those apps from the newer CFW, meaning I'll start following the instructions from #3 and below?
