Nintendo's online services are currently down - update: fixed

Mario-Repair-Nintendo-Logo-Vinyl-Decal-Sticker__47427.1507851152.jpg

With most individuals quarantined in their homes, online services appear to be struggling under the strain of so many users. Steam hit a new concurrent player record, while both Xbox Live and Discord went out for a few hours within the past few days. Nintendo is the latest to suffer from this, as Nintendo Switch Online services are currently down, including access to the eShop, for users across the world. According to Nintendo of America's support page, all network services for the Switch, Wii U, and 3DS are currently unable to connect. The situation is being looked into, and will hopefully be fixed soon.

UPDATE: As of a few hours later, Nintendo of America, Europe, and Japan have all confirmed that online services should be back up and running.

The 3DS still has online services?

Must be only to sell games because you can't trade Pokemon online anymore. I do not know if any 3DS game still has any online service left that still works.

MK7 is still very active online.

Worldwide? I can play just fine.

Yeah I was playing some MK8 online just a few minutes ago, but no eshop access. Which sucks cuz I just bought Switch Lites yesterday for my wife and me (our daughter already has a Switch), and paid for the family 1yr online. I snagged the NES/SNES games last night, but my wife hasn't yet. She's pissed lol.

I have to say, as a piece of hardware, I am quite impressed with the Switch Lite. More than I was by the regular Switch.

I only noticed when I couldn't save scum to recruit a shiny Gyarados in Mystery Dungeon ;_;

Better now than Friday tho, here's hoping they get it all sorted!

Interesting, I thought it was impossible to save scum in this game, because of the autosaving?
Though I wonder when the game even saves, considering it doesn't let you know. A very unusual thing to hide.

It's really easy tbf. Quit the game, make a Cloud Saves backup, redownload the save if things don't go to plan.

I don't understand why they still sell the 3DS hardware and games in stores if all the online features are fucking GONE.

So I work for one of the bigger cable companies and our bandwidth across the states are experiencing problems. With more and more people staying home, this will be more and more of an issue. Just know we are working our tails off to fix it.

I meant the COVID-19 problem is worldwide. So it's plausible that a lot of people all over the world are confined at home, by choice or not, and are trying to play online on Nintendo's servers. If it's not broken on your part of the world yet, good for you!

I think it was I who brought down the eshop with all the downloads. I've only got four items queued now, but I had a lot of failed downloads which I deleted. that was early this morning.

To get rid of the stock? Not all games have online features anyway and some games you can complete at 100% without going online ever once.

For some weird reason I can use online services when I set up the google DNS servers. Without them I cannot connect.

, But since you're not getting 100% of the features you're paying for, I think some kind of compensation is in order.

I'm in Australia, and last night the eShop servers were down - I couldn't access the store.
Strangely, though, I could (and did) download updates and redownload games via their home screen icons.

I had seven, eight, downloads queued up, so I left the Switch on during the night; when I checked this morning, only two remained, and they had errored-out sometime during my sleep; they had blinking 'x's over the download bar, and apparently stopped due to "maintenance".

That's fixed now; just checked the eShop for discounts (none worth mentioning), and I'm now downloading the Xenoblade 2 updates, followed by YouTube and a demo.

Usually old consoles and games tend to be at a discount unless they are too old then they may even be more expensive than they were on release.
