A free to play Call of Duty battle royale game is launching today

After leaking about a month ago, Call of Duty: Warzone has finally been officially revealed. Set to be an entirely different experience to the already-existing battle royale mode featured in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, Warzone will be a battle royale game, with 150-player matches, two game modes, vehicles, and is entirely free to play. Those who own Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will have a four-hour early access window, before the game becomes available to the public, on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC at 3 pm ET. You'll also want to make sure your platform of choice can handle the install, as it's going to be around 83 to 101GB to download.

Spend yr 50 quid on transactions which equals the amount of a normal game and if after all the hours you put in still not satisfied for value for money then email them saying you greedy cash grab bastards
Or one could not give them any money, nor play hours, thus showing that their ploy was easily seen through, and discouraging their outrageous behavior.

I don't need to try. These companies use the same tactics over and over again, recycling each others waste in the hopes that they are the ones that strike gold.
Name one game you've pld free with microtransactions tht you feel like you've been conned - if can't name one or not pld one then you join some others who just think this because you believe what some other person who's never tried a free to play game

I don't think you know what a cash grab is. This game is obvious pandering and it's just Activision doubling down on this genre. Fortnite is insanely successful, and Activision is trying to ride the coattails of that success.

While I agree this is Activision hoping for some easy money. I wish they'd have kept Blackout instead. Warzone is a mess.

Name one single free to play game that's not a cash grab; they're all full of microtransactions everywhere

Also is it so hard to optimize game sizes nowadays? Just by installing this thing you've filled 1/5 of a 500GB PS4.

Not really, it's today standards, fortnite is 80gb for instance.

I got optical fiber so i don't care that much, i had also cable 400MB/s for like dunno 8-9 years ? Im not even living in a big city.

Games are liek this because of texture size and the processing power asked by the graphic card for them, so they have to be uncompressed texture it's processed faster.
That, and game devs don't even try to optimize game sizes anymore as another form of piracy thwarting. And game devs don't optimize their games with compression anymore either, which is sad and pathetic. When I pirate a PC game, I'll go for a RePack of the game because the final install size is about a third smaller on average, without missing anything critical to the game.

None, because im smart enough to not fall into that trap.

To which I'll add, your question was designed fo make me say I've played none, or few, so you could go "Aha, how can you know if you haven't played them?".

I've recently gotten back into the CoD series with the release of MW having not played it since Black Ops 2, and I've got to say that the game overall is VERY fun and very good! All microtransactions (bundles, paid battle pass, operators) are completely optional, you don't need access to them to play the game to its fullest extent. The free battle pass and paid battle pass are shared -- you get access to the new guns and things simply by playing the game. Anything that is locked behind a paywall is purely cosmetic, and it's not really an in-your-face type of deal (I have not purchased the paid battle pass and have no intentions to do so). I'm not going to write a huge ass review here, but I've enjoyed playing Spec Ops, campaign, and multiplayer (especially with crossplay!).

With Warzone, it seems that the microtransactions are the EXACT same as those in Modern Warfare -- everything is shared between the modes. The fact that Warzone is FREE to play (without owning MW) and doesn't have any additional game-altering microtransactions is honestly pretty awesome. I hopped in a game today and actually really enjoyed the MW spin they put on it (the use of shops in specific locations, an in-game economy, a 1v1 Gunfight in Gulag Showers when you die early in the game, the ability to buy back teammates spawns, etc.). There's been a lot of good changes to the traditional first-generation battle royale formula and it's a very fresh type of game (and much more refined compared to Black Ops 4's Blackout BR mode!).

Overall, very happy with the direction this game is taking, and I hope IW continues to support it with solid updates.

BlackOps VIs stupid OP weapons from the black market with rediculously low drop rates in the crates affected the multiplayer matches so much it really felt like pay for an advantage, even though I already paid 60 for the game. It left such a bad taste and distrust for Activision I skipped on Modern Warfare and decided not to play it. I cant seem to enjoy the battle royal games I've tried, with apex legends beeing the most tolerable with some good fun new ideas.

I tried warzone because why not, and was pleasantly surprised. It didn't take long to pick up and get decent with its item, communication, vehicle systems etc and the gunplay seemed a lot nicer to me than black ops blackout. As if the netcode was a lot better. It seemed to have copied the good ideas from some other BL games without adding too much crap for now. I absolutely love the ghulag prisons 1v1 revive chance you get after you die, that stuff is hilarious.

I'm not fond of paid battle pass and grinding tiers but am seriously considering picking up the base game for 40€. I have to admit I had some genuine fun.

My biggest concern is the mini map removal and more campey gameplay in normal multiplayer from what I heard. Can someone share their experience coming from BlackOps4 in relation to how even the playing field is between people who dont buy in game stuff and those who do? (At this moment in time) I play on ps4 btw, is the cross platform with pc any problem in relation to pc cheats or mouse & keyboard controller spoofing?

My friends and I have been playing a lot of this so far, having a pretty good time with it. It's pretty much what I thought Blackout would be but the time to kill is much less frustrating to deal with, and there are plenty of ways for you to come back and not get absolutely destroyed if you happen to die, I must have revived my teammates from death like a dozen times in a single match before, so there really is never very much downtime and it keeps things fun. I am looking forward to see how this game mode matures.
