Dreamcast.

Because I do not think to get a Chance to get an "affordable" Saturn......

how much do they fetch for in Austria roughly?

They are pricier than Dreamcasts in the States, and much less available especially in good shape, but I think you can easily with some hunting and patience find them for ~$100

If you're willing to get a Japanese imported one, I don't think they're that much more than that either

The second* and last look decent at a quick glance, condition wise. Especially maybe the last with that 3D controller, I'm after one of those eventually just for a few titles.

but yeah you'll absolutely get hosed when they come with a mint retail box, games, or some sought after accessory in general. That's true even in the states here and maybe even more so... I think Saturn did worse in US than EU but not sure. JP was king. May also want a US/JP one too if you have a 60hz capable tv because EU Saturn was 50hz and spotty compatibility on running at 60hz but some titles work fine as if they weren't EU.

I like my model 2 a lot, but I hate the grey buttons on EU model 2 it looks so weird to my eyes.

Sidenote I've spent some time in Austria 10 years ago, mostly Vienna. Lovely people and country!

Been to Zell Am See as well and Salzburg (briefly)

im not knocking Dreamcast at all though! It has my childhood heart if nothing else. And I'm still wow'd by the graphics and I still think most stuff looks better than PS2, which is impressive not only for being 1GB discs vs DVD even if most are arcade length, but pushing 480p for 99% of titles vs 480i for most of PS2. And despite PS2 technically being superior on paper, that's still saying something.

so many great games, I just feel like the Saturn library is a bottom less pit of exploration of the overlooked.

I'm probably in the camp of "cant decide," since Saturn is so new to me and will have to really evaluate it once the dust settles for both. I just picked one up last year but seriously zero regrets. I only wish I did it sooner

I'm so happy to finally own a black Sega sports dreamcast too. Found the logo gross back in the day and wish it was without that, but now I love it as a timepiece. I have a matching black Sega sports controller too, but I use a clear blue one as my daily, something I didn't have growing up either! was always the basic white console and controller for me previously

I dont care what anyone says either, VMU's are brilliant! I love the screen built into the controller... even though I've been using a Japanese 4x VMU recently for convenience of game saves without swapping them out. The vibrate motor accessory is pretty great too with things like Crazy Taxi.

I got the Dreamcast because it was a very, very cheap Deal.
3 Dreamcasts with 4 Controllers and Memory Units,AV Cable and Games (all very "heavy" used...) for 80 Euros including Shipping.

After 4 Years 2 are still ok and now equipped with an GDemu Clone.:)

Both,Dreamcast and Saturn,were never my favorite Consoles.:D

Both have some games I really like. Both have controllers I really don't think hold up, though the DC is probably worse there.

I think the Saturn will be the system I ride into the future with or take to the desert island (other than the GBA and DS it probably represented the pinnacle of 2d games) but if someone snuck in and swapped it out with a Dreamcast I would not be too upset. Dreamcast also probably has most of the best versions of PS1 era games too so that is a perk there.

There really isn't any game on the Saturn that interested me and the few that did interest me were on other systems. Dreamcast actually had a decent line of up games that I still enjoy and went out of my way to make sure I can emulate. Do note, I own a Dreamcast, but moving parts.

Definitely Dreamcast, considering I actually own one and still haven't actually played a Saturn (or even seen one out in the wild).

Saturn for me, but I'm lucky to have pretty much all the gear needed to make it enjoyable. Light gun, controllers in good condition, a couple controller extension cords, OEM memory cart, OEM 1mb RAM, OEM 4mb RAM ... so it can play every Saturn release. I installed the modchip in it 20 years ago, and backups are 100% reliable. And Saturn has Bug! and Bug Too!, which pretty much settles it for me.

Only one of these systems have marvel vs capcom 2. :creep:

Yes indeed.

Dreamcast. It has overall better games in my opinion.

Dreamcast.

Even if you bought a Saturn for let's say £50-60, you'd still need to get it region mod to be able to play in 60 Hz unless you'd be okay with the slowed down PAL versions. Not to mention you'd also need the backup cartridge to play burned CDs, that's like £20. Yeah, it's not cheap.

I did read there's a mod to play backups via USB/HDD, but not a lot seem to know about it. I can't see myself burning CDs these days, even if it's to okay games for "free."

The Dreamcast controller is borderline unusable for fighters, even though I have a soft spot for the controller in general even without dual joysticks and not being the most ergonomic... and I have a Dream Connection II for these occasions to use my Saturn controller with it

...but you take that back about the Saturn! I think its controller (talking about the non wonky one with ind) has one of the best d-pads of all time. I looooooove it, especially for fighters.

MvC2 is incredible too! It was one of my favorites growing up, I love that I loved it before all the marvel movie hype of the 2010s onwards too. It feels that much cooler for that reason looking back

XMen vs SF isn't bad though as the one that paved the path for MvC1+2

Mad Catz are my favorite brand for PS2 controllers, but the DC controller they made is pretty average and even dare I say, mediocre. I've not seen a Dreamcast controller that looked really good, to the likes of Xbox Controller S or GameCube.

Really?

Ive had some mad catz and they were ok for some systems but don't remember it being any better than a secondary controller

I vaguely remember the grips on them on dreamcast though, maybe my friend's had some?

The Dreamcast had a great library for only having a two year lifespan. The Saturn had a whole console generation with a lack of third party support and not many good exclusives in the west compared to the exclusives that came out in eastern countrys

I prefer Sega Saturn because I liked it. However, Dreamcast was the easier one because you dont hacked it. It can played boot CD as backup games easily with certain tool!
