just out of curiosity, but who draws these comics?
Depends on the comic - there's a large team of artists that contributes to Temper Tantrums, this one was drawn by my better half, @FlareTheFox. You can always find the credits and the profile link in the header and footer of the page. :D

This is why I wait for games to drop in price and aim to customize my own consoles and things.
Give it a personal touch.
Plenty of replacement shells to laser etch if I really wanna.

Me if they made an F-Zero Switch: Just this once.

as with all nice merch that people want......limited edition or otherwise.....you're always going to have that one person buying them up left and right and then selling them for a massive markup, look at the launches of the PS2 and the NES Classic. I've heard stories of people going into shops and buying up like 10 or 20 just to flip them on Ebay, and in the case of the NES/SNES Classic, you had people going so far as to have listings, but instead of selling the system itself, they offered a "pickup" service where they would claim to buy it for you when it came out.

I liked that one. On the subject of scalpers, they suck, yes, but it' a free world. If they have the money to spend and they want to make a quick buck, why not? Limited editions are not meant to be bought by everyone freely. They are meant to be bought by a select few, the chosen ones. Scalpers just change this rule a bit, and make sure it's a select few with lots of cash. That said, I'm not a scalper myself, and I never buy limited editions of anything.

The problem I have with "limited editions" is the fact that they're limited artificially. The publisher/manufacturer is perfectly capable of delivering the exact amount of "first-run units" as there are pre-orders, or near enough - that would still make them limited to one batch, but it would save folks quite a bit of disappointment. That's not what happens though - a lot of products are scarce on purpose, in order to induce that "oh my god" feeling of worry that often overwhelms common sense. Amiibos are a perfect example, I swear Nintendo produced, like, 5 figurines in each batch, or at least that's how it felt at the time. It's really silly, although admittedly, artificial scarcity a good way to make money. Amiibos never became clearance items, people bought them full price and often re-sold them for five to ten times their value. Meanwhile Totakus still litter store shelves and sell for a fraction of the price. I personally do my best to avoid limited editions and make a point of buying the standard edition almost every time, with a few exceptions for titles that have sentimental value to me. I don't like this trend, and I don't want to support it. The pinnacle of artificial scarcity is of course limited pre-orders - the item doesn't even exist yet, how can it possibly be out of stock? Here's a thought - make more! I'm willing to pay, I have the money right here! The whole point of pre-ordering items and paying deposits was to avoid this exact problem, and to gauge "real interest", as in interest people are willing to put money behind, but it doesn't seem to work that way - it's just a system for making customers pay without receiving anything of value in return. The mind truly boggles.

I think peoples' hatred towards scalpers is misplaced. Anyone is allowed to buy as many of anything as they want, unless the retailer places limits. Or even better, if the distributor supplies enough stock, the retailer won't even have to impose limits, as they'll have enough stock for at least the pre-orders.

Good. lets trigger them....
I can see it from both sides. It's definitely a d-move to buy out the whole stock of an item with the intention of selling it on, knowing that you're creating an artificial scarcity, but at the same time the developers/manufacturers are to blame too for not producing enough stock to satisfy demand. Many stores are to blame also - it works differently all around the globe, but in the UK stores are allowed to decline sales if the cashier has a reasonable suspicion that the customer is a trader. This is particularly important when certain items are on sale or when items are limited in quantity.
