Rune Factory 4 special just got released and I am really excited to finish it on a remastered version of it from the 3ds. I noticed that someone did a mod for the 3ds to have same-sex marriage called "[WIP] Rune Factory 4: Gay Lest/Lesbian Frey Mod" on gbatemp if you search for it (can't post links yet).
So I hope that it could somehow be implemented on the switch version as well since its already been done. Thank you for any help.

Would be nice. I know you can change your avatar to the opposite sex halfway through the game, but they still call you the original prince/princess in conversations.

RELEASE V0.1

Install:
* Layeredfs, put inside atmosphere/content

Notes:
* This ONLY swaps out gender specific text. Prince is now Princess, Princess is now Prince, and a couple others.
* This may not be complete. It's not obvious in the file what character is being referred to at times. If you encounter something incorrect please report it so I can look into fixing it. (like, a male NPC being referred to as female, or an incorrect reference to your PC)

Swapping character sprite and voices was straightforward, but there were issues with the face sprites. I cannot easily fix this without a proper debugger. (Thinking about it, I guess I could try to do research on the 3DS version of the game instead, but I don't know if I'll have the time to do so.)

It is recommended to pair this with the in-game order to swap your character, as this file is meant to complement that. If anyone finds a way to save edit or a hack to enable those orders earlier, please share in this thread!

Future to-do's: (big maybe)
* Make adjustments to the dialog in npc events

One last note... I have not touched the newlywed thing at all, no idea how this will (or will not) impact that mode.

Made some progress:

- Swapped F sprite to M
- Swapped F voices to M
- Swapped F face to M... kinda (everything minus the face itself, so hair and clothes is M, but the face is F, green eyes, light green hair parts not lining up, etc)

Trying to figure out the face icon and rest of the face. The text portion looks... simple enough, to at least change the main pronouns.

edit: Fixing pronouns was surprisingly easy. No go on the face icon and fixing the awkward face mismatch issues. I wonder if this runs on yuzu? May be able to use some of its features to pinpoint the correct file.

edit2: This is a 32 bit game so it doesn't run on yuzu. Darn. Half tempted to just find a code or try to edit my save to run that end game order to change gender, then just couple that with the text changes and it's pretty much all done... Or maybe I run half bugged until I get to that point. Meh.

I was surprised that the model and texture swapping wasn't so hard since Tokyo Mirage was pretty finicky with the naming inside the file. Annoyingly, I can't fix the map icons indicators for the character without the game crashing on load. Swapping the files does nothing. Swapping the files and updating the file properties causes the game to crash.

I used the Rune Factory Text Editor tool to edit text/rf3TxtHeroNickName.eng. Changed the obvious main character references to match the gender I wanted, and it worked out.

If one of you finishes the text portion, could you give us a release? Obviously it would be better to have everything, but if we have the text changes, we can play properly once we get the sprite swap order. That would be nice to have in the meantime.

So, just so everyone knows, the thing where you can change your character's gender that BlackwingAngelX mentioned completely changes your character's sprite, voice, and picture... And then if you want to have a more masculine name... There's that NPC Trupin who can change your name.
Basically, aside from the way people address you as prince/princess, It's pretty exactly what you'd want in a mod for same-sex marriage. (Besides, a mod would probably end up having you addressed by the wrong title anyway, since it would be hard to change the scripts.)
The pregnancy event probably still occurs though so... yeah..

Also, just because I'm curious, why is same-sex marriage in games requested so often? I mean, I'm not against it or anything, I've just always wondered why people always end up modding things for it... (Like in Fire Emblem games for example.)

Because I'm gay and I want to enjoy a hot gay guy in the video game I am playing and whenever they include gay characters in games such as fire emblem 3 houses they give you a very limited choice of characters that are less attractive than what I would like. Not all gays want the guy 30 years older than you actually are or the one with long hair and no muscles. So just open the dating systems up and let the people choose what they want.

Guess I didn't phrase it well lol. What I was trying to say is that I've noticed a lot of girls request mods specifically that make same sex marriage between MALE characters possible. I'm thinking maybe it's related to Yaoi?

Dunno if this deserves a separate thread, as I don't know if I'll be doing much additional work on it (besides fixing any small bugs), but I went ahead and updated my first post with the file to replace the text. Let me know how it works and if there are any issues.

And if anyone has a hack or a save editor to allow for the post game orders earlier in the game, to change the sprite, please share!

I'm not nearly far enough to test it, but I've heard that the sprite swap carries over on NG+. If this is true, sharing clear data + an NG+ capable save file could be a way to get the Sprite Swap from the start of the game. Maybe the NG+ file can have it's save data edited to to put all teh seeds and stuff at level 1 so that it will be as close to regular NG as possible.

Hmm..so after finally getting around to this, I noticed that the sprite swap is only for the overworld. Your save and menu sprite are still your original sex. Its not ideal, but better than nothing haha. Maybe someone will eventually figure out the full swap.

Anyone got the text mod working for sx os? I transferred the files but it didnt worked. Every npc is still referring to me as my original gender (as prince, man, etc.)

I tested both the files to make sure they work. (and they do)

It will not work without the appearance order.

If this mod doesn't work it's either because you have the old file downloaded or you don't have the appearance order on.
I originally made a mistake when I first uploaded with the female file by keeping some male files in there it has been fixed now so if you downloaded the old one delete it and download the new file.
