hmmmm sounds like what a9lh does......on the off chance that someone already installed a9lh on them try putting a SD card with a9lh files in the console and see if it boot, if not it sounds like they require additional hardware/software to function, iirc the consoles "liberated" from the lourve also required a special SD and game card inserted to boot, it may be something similar

afaik the normal store demos that dont run on battery will not do anything unless plugged in, so the fact they come on and turn off suggest that there is something running and deciding not toboot up as something else is wrong or missing (same as what the early a9lh builds were designed to do if the a9loaderhax file was not found)

Well, I finally heard back from the person that I received these from. He said "The systems were used in Best Buy stores for Demo purposes. The port is different as it hooks up to a dongle. Hope that helps!". So, does anyone have any information that they can add?

These aren't present on a normal motherboard, wonder what happens if you short them together

It looks like 4 is ground, and I think 5 might be +5V

the fact they turn on an power off automatically suggests power is not the issue but instead these console indeed do require some sort of "dongle" to unlock, seeing as nearly all other store kiosk consoles only require a bog standard power supply to be plugged in I'm assuming these must have been used in special situations i.e showcasing new games where a member of staff had to be with customers whilst playing to prevent any sort of "run away with pre-release game" scenario, does seem weird that there is so little info about these may be worth asking the seller if they have access to the dongle even if it's just to borrow so you can boot it up and see what's on there, potentially dump stuff.......and see what exactly makes them tick

these are present on a normal motherboard as well, the points you've circled are all ground. The only difference between normal motherboard and your picture: the port and the absence of charging IC (right beneath it), which you really wouldn't need if the board was designed to work with the charger always plugged in and not needing the battery charging function. There are 10 legs coming from the port, but obviously only couple would be in use for it to function, others don't go anywhere based on the picture

The ones I circled are not present on the motherboard for a red USA retail 3DS XL.

Yours looks nothing like mine.

Mine is labeled pwb/cpu/au-T/spr-01

It uses a normal charger if that helps

I also noticed yours has a grey SD card door. My guess is you have a developer unit that someone put the wrong back cover on. If it says retail unit and its blue like mine i will gladly trade you the correct back cover BTW

Hi Clay 82, sorry to bother you, I know this chat was made about 4 years ago, I was wondering if you ever did figure out the charger for the 3ds xl retail unit? I own one that has the same exact t charging port and I was wondering if you know or figured out what type of charging port it is.

Hi Clay39, I know that that this chat was created 4 years ago, so apologize in advance for bothering you about this. I own a blue 3ds xl retail unit and it has the same charging port that your 3ds xl retail unit had. I was wondering if you ever did figure out what dongle cable it used. Please let me know any information regarding this. Thank you. Please Message me on this chat.

Apparently, there's a difference between o3DSXL and n3DSXL charger ports.

It’s not an issue regarding new and old ports it’s the fact that it uses a modified port that needs a special dongle

I own few 3DS's with the mini hdmi type D connector and I managed to create a dongle that works like a power button.

This works with the O3DS without any problems, but you will have to solder a battery to it.
It also works on the O3DS XL (still with a battery plugged-in) but only to power it up.

I'm still trying to identify every pinout for the O3DS & O3DS XL with this connector.

Hi, wondering if there are any updates on that dongle for the bestbuy variant 3ds xl kiosk display? Has anyone figured out how to get it working?

Hi! I fix electronics for a living, and this post made me curious about this special port.

If someone can send a unit over to Hungary, i'll try to help reverse engineer it. Also there is a bar here in Budapest (Barcraft). IIRC, they own units like this with the kiosk (never seen them turned on tho), but will check after the lockdown is lifted.
