Hi,

I recently updated my Wii U from 5.5.1 to 5.5.4, because I wanted to install HaxChi (using a DS game) and maybe CBHC following this guide:
https://gbatemp.net/threads/guide-community-noob-guide-to-wii-u-hacking.451297/

I must noticed that I used the Browserhax entry point before, but that was a long time ago.

What I´ve done (in short):
  • Prepared the sd card
  • Updated firmware from 5.5.1 to 5.5.4 ( to access the store to download the ds game -> pruchased Big Brain Academy DS)
  • Visit this page u.wiidb.de
  • Launched Homebrew launcher and installed Haxchi
  • Haxchi has successfully been installed.

But now I am facing different problems:
When I launch the console and navigate inside the Wii U menu it freezes after a few seconds
The Homebrew launcher can still be launched. Inside the Homebrew launcher the console does not freeze. Homebrew works (eg. SNES emulator).
Exit the Homebrew launcher results in error 160-0103
Starting a NAND dump using Wii U NAND Dumper results also in error 160-0103.

No USB devices attached.

What can I do now? Is the Wii U bricked?
Thanks for help.

Sorry, you already mentioned it,I have overlooked, this was my Fault.Excuse me.:)

And you mean the Wii U Settings ? Not the Wii (vWii) ?
Only to get sure, did you checked your SD Card of Errors please ?
(I know, the Wii U has nothing to do with an attached one,but only to get sure)

Thank you.:)

Not your fault, I just re-edited my post after you pointed that out.

I can re-check the SD card. But the same problem occured when the SD card was removed.
Yes, I mean the Wii U Menu.
I just tried it again and for now it does not freeze again, very strange. But I am still not able to dump the NAND.
And I don´t want to proceed installing CBHC until the dump has been created and the console runs fine.

Very, very reasonable.I really appreciate such Decisions.:)

Prepared the SD Card means you have used this Guide:
https://wiiu.hacks.guide/get-started

and the latest Releases of the Applications/Tools.:)

Your SD Card is formatted with FAT32 ?
Is it as regular SD Card or an microSD with Adapter please ?
And what is the Size of it please ?

You also have noticed this ?
Your SD card cannot be named wiiu, or it will cause problems.

You NAND Backup Process:

  1. While in the Homebrew Launcher, launch nanddumper
    • If you left the Homebrew Launcher, return to it by running the Wii U browser and go to wiiuexploit.xyz
  2. Use the D-Pad to set the following options:
    • Dump SLC (528MB): yes
    • Dump SLCCMPT (528MB): yes
    • Dump MLC (8GB/32GB): optional
    • Dump OTP (1KB): yes
    • Dump SEEPROM (1KB): yes
  3. Press (A) to dump your NAND
    • Be prepared to wait; this can take a while (up to several hours depending on the options you enabled)
  4. When it has completed, your Wii U will reboot automatically

The Error Meassage appears immediately after the NAND Backup is finished or after /during the Re-Boot try ?

Thank you.:)

I formatted the SD card using guiformat as FAT32 (32k).

I prepared it following the 'SD File preparation' topic of this guide:
https://gbatemp.net/threads/guide-community-noob-guide-to-wii-u-hacking.451297/

It is a regular 64GB Samsung EVO SD card. The label of the drive is empty as recommended.

I launch the Homebrew launcher by touching the Haxchi shortcut.

With regard to the NAND dump:
I launch the 'Wii U NAND Dumper' and set all options to 'yes'. When I push the <A> Button to start the dump the error message occurs.

It is a normal SD card.
Ok,then it is my fault again,I looked on Amazon and it only showed microSD Cards with your Description....Excuse me.:)

Then your SD Card is ok,you re-formatted it and tested it.Good, thank you.

My next Step was this but I am not sure this counts for all DS Ware Titles:

If already own Brain Age or Brain Training and have had it installed on your Wii U for a while, try deleting it and redownloading the game from the eShop. Older versions of the game are not compatible with the exploit.

Please check of your DS Ware Title is on the latest Release.

Maybe a Possibility...:(

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Do you mabe have an original Wii U Game to test please ? If an Error occurs too, then maybe your Wii U has a Problem.....

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Did you maybe played Super Smash Bros. Wii U before ?

I purchased the DS title last Sunday and installed it. I don´t think that it is a SD card or DS title issue.
I still cannot reproduce the freeze problem anymore.

I just tested an original Wii U Game (Disc) -> Rayman Legends. No problem so far. It running flawless.

Ok,then your Wii U seems ok from the technical Side,I think.:)

And please:

Did you maybe played Super Smash Bros. Wii U before (the System Update) ?

Is there anything else I can do?

Hello.:)

I am sorry,I have no Solutions for you at the Moment.:(

-The Possibility of an corrupted Wii U Memory is also mabye there, thats why I asked for the Super Smash Bros. Game.
-You also confirmed your DS Ware for the Exploit is the latest Version and also your Homebrew is working.
- No USB Device attached.
- Original Games works without Error Message.

-From that Behavior I would say the SD Card, but as you confirmed you have checked it of Errors and re-formatted it.
- also that it is an regular, normal SD Card formatted with FAT32.

If you want a full backup including MLC, and have a black Wii U (32GB) model, your SD card must be at least 64GB in size.

Is your Wii U the 8 GB or 32 GB Modell please ?
How many Space is left on the SD Card after your issue/failed NAND Backup try please ?
How many Space do you have left on your Wii U Memory please ?

Thank you.:)

I read about corrupted memory. In the past I installed a few game demos eg. The Wonderful 101. After I updated the system to 5.5.4 I tried to launch that demo but it results in an error too, AFAIR it was error code 160-2215. Then I removed any installed demo and relevant data.

My Wii U is the black 32GB model. The SD card has enough space to create the complete dump.

I just prepared another SD Card (microSD) but the result is the same.

Too bad, if it is some kind of corrupted memory then there is no solution, right?

The Main Problem is you do not have a valid NAND Backup and Keys.:(
So a "Hardmod" is unfortunately no Option, because it is useless without NAND Backup.

Nintendo suggested on Error 160-0103 do a System Update again or even the Possibility of an corrupted Memory.

Maybe an possible Try is to delete all downoaded Games and Updates from the System Memory and re-download it.Maybe there is one Application/Game that is not "complete" and causes the Issue.:(

Otherwise I have unfortunately no more Suggestions,I am very sorry.:(

Good luck and
Thank you for your Patience.:)

error code 160-2215

and that confirms my badest Fears:
An Problem of your Wii U and /or the System/Memory.....I am very, very sorry.

Thanks so far for your help and patience.

I removed all data from system memory, but that did not solve the problem.
Launching Mii Maker result also in error 160-0103.

I created a backup of Rayman using disc2app on SD card. It seems to be created but installing it to NAND fails as well with 160-0103.

I presume more and more that the NAND ist partially corrupted.

Not sure if doing a system update again (btw. how can I trigger the update again?) helps. But I could give it a try.
Or I perform a factory reset and re-hack again from the beginning.

Update :sad::

I performed a factory reset. Afterwards basic setup of the console works until I try to add a new User. Then it results in error 160-0103. So that´s it for now.
