the switch is just a 0.9b of the Wii U, with proper marketing and all that.
for now I think they're just covering up for the losses they had with the wii u, the console is built very cheaply ( it's literally just a decent tablet and 2 very basic bluetooth controllers ) and had shady sales tactics such as the artificial shortages
they're also figuring out what to do now that iwata is gone, the people in charge were appointed by the investors and don't seem to know very well where to take things ( other than expand outside video games ).
playing it safe, planning the ports carefully and filling the gaps with indie/third party games
now that the switch became a best seller they're probably saving the best things for the switch pro which will most likely be at least announced by the time for E3. the default model of the switch can't even play stuff like link's awakening without the occasional drastic fps drop, a lot of high profile games are on it already the performance boost alone would sell a lot of people on the idea I think.
the wii u had much higher specs early in development, so hopefully we'll finally see what the console was intended to be like.
about the games, a new super mario bros game from tose is a given, we'll get it eventually. it's cheap to make and sells effortlessly.
1,2, switch is the wii sports of the switch ( which by the way, retained the wii in the name s(wi)tch. it's very subtle, i love it )
nintendo has no idea what to do with mario party, they still didn't understand that when people asked for another mario party advance they wanted a mario party with a story and not an even more casual game with the shoe car and they're desperate to make it appealing for modern kids ( which supposedly have a shorter attention span and get frustrated more easily? ).
I think some stuff like the themes and the virtual console might be gone forever without iwata ( unless they're saving it for the next iteration too ), retro games are being released as a compilation ( seiken densetsu, mega drive "classics" ) in a full price game format so I think that says all there is to be said about it. dataminers found data for emulators other than nes and snes inside the switch but no one knows what they are yet.
iwata was the one force keeping the company together imo, he understood what customers enjoyed, and how to improve the work environment and stood against investors dumb demands like making nintendo games for phones because the son of one of the investors wanted to play mario on his iphone or something.
personally I'm just sad that the 3ds got killed off so fast because internet geniuses thought if nintendo cut all support for it it would mean more games for switch
despite being portable too, the games on switch are designed as tabletop console games and not even link's awakening feels like it follows the design philosophy that ds, 3ds & etc games had ( that hud looks like it's from a smartphone game though ). it's not as fun
