I have just bought another wii from fleebay (haven't had chance to plug it in yet). But I have noticed an abundance of larger capacity sd cards for sale on the same site with lots of games etc... I have also seen on nintendo site there has been an update for the Wii with combatibilty for upto 32gb cards.
I haven't read all of the pages on this thread, but the general rule was no bigger than 2gb and don't update. Has this changed?

It is quite possible I will be back after the weekend with issues from the new wii... my old one is still working fine I am just trying to find a way to get my aging father to move a little more for health reasons.

The Wii is compatible with SDHC cards up to 32GB as long as you have Wii Menu 4.0 or higher installed, Nintendo does not guarantee compatibility with bigger cards, and I'm not sure if there's a homebrew workaround. Not sure why you'd need that kind of card though since USB HDD is a far superior form of storage.

@Foxi4 is correct. As long as the Wii is on 4.0 or higher larger cards will work. If it's lower than 4.0 you'll need to find a 2GB card to do the mod, but then you'll be on 4.0+ after the mod.

I personally choose 4.3 for all of my modded Wii's and have done over 50 of them. I have also been using 256GB SDXC cards since 2015 and they work great. One of these days I'll upgrade to a 512GB or 1TB, but only after prices come down a bit more.

Here's an Amazon link to the 256GB I bought, but they seem pricey right now. There are probably others with a better cost, I bought mine on sale in 2015 for $87.99: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FF90EZM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Thank you all for the replies. I had not realised the larger SD compatibility.
So I have now just plugged the Wii it all seems to work. (I had to youtube removing parental lock first.)
Then followed the slow memory recall and feeling stupid when not seeing how to do things (where to type the MAC address for letter bomb).
Anyway it seems to work now. There seemed to be an issue with loading wiiflow from priiloader, but it started working when I copied the wiiflow folder from my own Wii SD card.
Thanks for the MODMii software and a community that is still willing to help.

say hello and thank him for me!
(even if we never really talked together, he is still a friend and part of us)
It's nice to have your own domain now.

I'll ask here, as you probably didn't get the notification in the other thread.

is modmi compatible with riiconnect24 patched cIOS31 and cIOS80?

I mean, if a user has riiconnect24 patched IOS, and follow modmii to re-softmod, or provide a syscheck to udate the console, it'll replace these IOS, but the channels will not work anymore until the IOS are patched and reinstalled back.
is syscheck properly reporting these riiconnect24 patched IOS? I don't remember seeing any info about riiconnect patched IOS on syscheck.
is modmii re-patching them if the user already had them?

I tried to look at the source but didn't find any references to riiconnect. Maybe I didn't look at the right place, or outdated sources?

I guess it won't banner brick if the interactive-banner channels can't access the network, or tries to display bad info, right?
in that other thread, the user said it seemed like banner brick after updating with modmii. deactivating the network fixed his banner brick, which I find strange. I only thought about riiconnect, but maybe I'm wrong. he didn't reply so I don't know.

I'm not very familiar with riiconnect24. If riiconnect24 custom IOSs appear the same in a Syscheck as those installed by ModMii then modmii's syscheck updater wizard won't have you overwrite anything. I doubt they are reported the same though so chances are ModMii will have you install its preferred version of IOS80 and 31

My advice? Use modmii first, then set up riiconnect24 after. If doing in the reverse order you may need to omit installing conflicting WADs or risk breaking riiconnect24 and have to set it up again.

ModMii by default installs a patched IOS60 to ALL system menu slots as version 16174 with all 4 patches applied. This protects consoles from accidental upgrades or downgrades made by incompatible consoles (I. E. Downgrading LU64+ wii's or updating region changed Korean wii's)

I never tried riiconnect either, and don't think they appear differently on syscheck. at least, I never noticed based on all the syscheck posted by users.
Leseratte is part of the team, no? he is working on new cIOS (for mini, and wii/vWii too), and will update syscheck to detect his new cIOSes. He could as well add checksum for riiconnect IOS at the same time, that would be nice.

I was just wondering if it could cause a problem to replace these IOS with clean one (or cIOS60 in slot80), based on the user's report having a similar banner brick situation.
it was just in case you knew anything I didn't.

I think riiconnect needs latest version of these IOS (at least IOS31) so modmii shouldn't update it if the user provided his syscheck.
I'm not so sure about IOS80, as it probably got replaced with cIOS60.

I don't know if riiconect is still updated, or if these patches could be added to modmii as options.
it could be nice for completeness of modmii, no? :)

It sounds like riiconnect24 patches ios31 whereas modmii installs the latest unstubbed clean version. So modmii's syscheck updater would overwrite this for sure. As for IOS80 if even the version number is something other than 16174 modmii will prompt users to update it. This we would need to check, the only way they would match is if the riiconnect24 team intentionally mirrored what modmii does to IOS80 (which is quite possible, all the best guides are usually on the same page)

I found a riiconnect syscheck :

IOS31 (rev 3608): Trucha Bug, ES Identify, NAND Access
no special mention to be riiconnect patched, so modmii would overwrite it.

if syscheck had the possibility to detect riiconnect and put it in the list, then it could be useful, like:
IOS31 (rev 3608): Trucha Bug, ES Identify, NAND Access, Riiconnect

for now, there's nothing you can do.

I wouldn't say there's 'nothing' I can do. I could have modmii detect 'IOS31 (rev 3608): Trucha Bug, ES Identify, NAND Access' and if found skip installing a clean IOS31

Do you know what riiconnect24's IOS80 looks like in syscheck?

I found this one on another site:
IOS31 (rev 3608): Trucha Bug, ES Identify, Acces NAND
IOS80 (rev 6944): Trucha Bug, Acces NAND

so, it's not the same as yours
you could detect if both IOS31 and IOS80 are like that to determine if riiconnect is installed and skip them.
or ask for confirmation whether the user want to keep or replace them?

I don't know if riiconnect can be done on older sysmenu (IOS60 and 70), but so far I found only patches for IOS80.

edit:
I found this :
"You can use RiiConnect with System Menu Version 4.2x.Only the MAIL Function did not work."
not sure yet if it means "the IOS70 is not patched" or if it's patched but having mail function not working.
I need to find a guide to do RC24 on 4.1 and 4.2
Edit:
looking at the patcher's sources, it only check and patch IOS80 (not caring if you are on 4.1 or 4.2) so you end up with a non patched 60/70, and unused patched 80. so the IOS80 patch is only for the mail support and receiving notification from RC24 servers.

Those are different IOSs, look at the version number. Which one is from riiconnect24? The latter? The former looks like it came from ModMii

@Cyan or anyone really, can you check and see if installing modmii's system menu IOS (I. E. IOS80 v16174 (IOS60 v6174 patched)) still enables mail support and receiving notifications from RC24 servers?

ModMii enables all 4 standard patches to the system menu IOS so unless the riiconnect24 patcher does some unique patching, the system menu IOS modmii installs should still work with riiconnect24. If this is the case, IOS31 is the only IOS modmii needs to be careful not to overwrite to retain riiconnect24 support

So riiconnect24 uses a clean unpatched IOS80? U sure?
Checked all again a few Minutes ago,yes it is so.
Except it makes any Difference between an original "real" NTSC Wii and an PAL to NTSC Region changed Wii ?
