Hello,

Whenever I attempt to play Breath of the Wild, I receive an error that says that the game closed due to an error. There is no error code. It only says that the game closed due to an error. This issue happens with virtually every version of the game that I try. I have tried XCI's, NSP's, as well as the cartridge copy of the game that I own. All of them give me this error. The only version of the game where I do not receive this error is the TurboSnail version of the game that comes packaged with the DLC. I would opt to use that version of the game, but despite the base game loading, it does not register any of the DLC. At this point I am stumped.

Things I have tried:

  • Installing multiple versions of the game, as well as playing from a legitimate cartridge
  • Deleting save data
  • Installing the game with SX OS as well as Tinfoil
  • Updating firmware to ensure that I am using exFAT version
  • Using a different SD card

Don't use exFAT if you are on CFW, as for what you can try is delete all the ticket associated with the games and try to install again, and try another build you are running into error again.

I use Exfat and all my stuff works I prefer Exfat since you don't have to split the games..

At OP sounds like you got a bad dump of the game because my BOTW works on exfat also the type of memory card you use also depends because if it is cheap low quality you will have problems.

So at this point I have now tried using a brand new Sandisk microSD formatted to FAT32 and I split the BOTW XCI. Still get the error on all of the versions as before including my cartridge. It can't be a bad dump if I'm also getting the error from the cartridge.

EDIT: I've also tried deleting all of the associated tickets.

You don't have to split games if you use NSP with USB/network installing (which is more convenient than turning the Switch off to pop the MicroSD out anyway)
And sooner or later the exFAT partition will corrupt, it's a guarantee if the system crashes during a write.

I had a similar problem ... my game Zelda BOTW that either in nsp or xci did not launch.
I followed this method and it worked.
make a backup of your SD card before just in case (homebrew, etc).
...
• Backup data, screenshots and user information will not be deleted. However, all the applications saved on the microSD card (except the screenshots) will be unusable.
1. Press the POWER button for three seconds to open the POWER menu, then select "Turn Off" from the power options.
2. Hold down the volume up (+) and volume down (-) buttons on the top of the console (next to the POWER button), and press the POWER button to turn on the console.
3. Hold down the volume buttons until the restore mode menu appears.
4. Read the information in its entirety, then select "Next".
5. Select "Reset console without erasing backup data".

The exFAT drivers on the Switch are objectively more likely to cause corruption issues. Even if you've had nothing but good luck with exFAT, that's all it is: good luck. Switching to FAT32 is highly recommended.

If you run emulators regularly then corruption is not a matter of if, but when. If you only run backups then you might be okay, but I wouldn't risk it if you're running any type of homebrew. I learned the hard way.

I'm surprised that people still think splitting files is a thing... USB installation did away with that a long, long time ago.
