Have you seen the Sonic the Hedgehog movie yet? Share your thoughts!

YnY1Uwo.png

After a tumultuous first reveal that led to weeks of disappointment, memes, and internet outcry, the Sonic the Hedgehog movie managed to revamp Sonic's design to look more like the character, which was a blessing to most peoples' eyes. Making sure Sonic actually looked Sonic-y, however, pushed the movie back from its original launch, out of 2019 and into 2020. Now, the time has finally come, and the film is finally available to see in theaters across the world. Have you seen it yet? Will you see it yet? Will it rival the likes of Detective Pikachu for acceptable family-friendly video game movie quality? Or will we be putting its Bluray on the shelf next to Super Mario Bros. (1993) and every Uwe Boll video game movie? Since it's launching (in the UK and USA) on Valentine's Day, are you treating your special someone to 99-minutes of Sonic-related hijinks? Let us know how you liked it!

i'm surprised with all the positive reactions in this thread.
the movie was nothing special. far from great.
there weren't enough Sonic elements to justify it being a Sonic movie. i remember Detecitve Pikachu being like that too.
replace sonic with literally any other creature with a power and you've got the exact same movie.

a map or a phone with GPS would've been enough for Sonic to find San Francisco and get his rings in no time at all.
in fact, ALL the problems with Sonic being chased stem from him having to carry his useless partner around. He could've easily outrun all of those machines alone.

at the start of the movie, the ring portal was quick enough for Sonic to make his escape when he was being actively attacked.
however, being in his cave with only the potential of being attacked apparently wasn't safe enough.

Sonic had an entire bag of rings. Enough to waste a bunch running away from Robotnik in the last encounter without a thought.
even if Sonic had gone to the mushroom planet, he could've easily come back to earth later.

Robotnik's character was funny. he wasn't even evil. sonic was causing huge disturbances and couldn't be captured. killing him was the only option.

i liked the jokes. not enough to make me laugh, but they did spark happiness.
there was 15 seconds of a green hill theme remix near the end. i liked that. i wish they used some variants Sonic tracks throughout the movie. i've already forgotten whatever they used instead.

i'd give this movie a 5/10. not worth my drive to the theater.

And just got back from watching it with my girlfriend! I actually found it to be a pretty enjoyable movie and not really that bad. It was flawed and definitely had problems but I definitely enjoyed the experience.

This is still better then the Mario bros movie and as such I'd like to congratulate Sega on their first legit Win against anything Mario related. Doesnt mean the movie was great but a burning match is better then a dumpster fire.

Oh oh I posted this in Facebook, I just saw it today.

Real Sickly Reviews: Sonic The Hedgehog, the movie.

The pros:
-Sonic eats 3.5 chili dogs throughout the course of the movie
-There's a Sanic drawing within the first few minutes as the plot is set
-The credits are a really, really cool retro throwback montage set in the movie universe

The cons:
-3 of the chili dogs are eaten within a single scene
-3.5 chili dogs is not enough chili dogs for Sonic
-Sonic flosses twice in the movie

The meh:
-Credits allude to a Tails the Fox movie or Sonic sequel

The movie:
-Exists

It was fine.

It met and/or marginally exceeded my expectations.

[My further comments]

4.5/10

Which is right about where I expected it to be.

-Don't go watch it because you expect it to be good, because it's really not. Video game movies never are. However, that's the charm in them, is that they're always so not good, that you can't be disappointed by how not good they are.

-However, in its defense - It IS a kid's movie.

Friend: "How was Jim Carey?"

-Not a great Robotnik, but a great Jim Carey.

Not like he was the wrong person for the role, just Robotnik wasn't written as a good Robotnik.

Granted... Kids movie.

I liked it. I don't know why it got bad reviews. What do people even expect from this? But hey movies always get crap when they are not like leonardo dicaprio levels of good.

It's just an enjoyable kids movie, nothing more nothing less.

I did, and let me tell you, it surprised me in a VERY good way. I really liked it, even though I was expecting a real shitty movie.
The only thing I did NOT like was Eggman's mustache until the very end, but other than that, it was amazing. Tons of little references here and there, like the Echidna tribe, and even Sanic appears once in the beginning of the movie. It was just amazing. No regrets, and would definitely watch again.

Unfortunately there is a Streetfighter movie 1994, it stars Jean Claude Vandamme and I would say that’s the worst adaptation of a video game ever made!
DUDE, DUDE, have you already forgotten ''Dragon ball REVOLUTION''??

Actually a producer needs big dragonballs between legs to show such abomination.

I just watched it. Found it to be mediocre as I expected it to be far better, but in reality it's just an average kids movie and the best scenes were shown on the trailer.

Jim Carrey was awesome as Dr. Eggman so that's the most praise I can give this subpar movie. And hell, I'm a fan of SONIC so I was hoping for much better!

You mean Evolution? There was supposedly a sequel titled "Revolution" or so.

So i saw it yesterday. I have to say, it is a decent plot. With good room for Sequels. Nice Idea with the Rings. I think the Character of Sonic was spot on, the Design was just great only the german voice was not as good as it could have been. The other Human Characters were great too, none too shallow i think. Really nice made everything and all. About Eggman, i often heard now that he wasnt Pictured well because of no Fatsuit. First off, i think Jim Carrie Nailed the Personality of Eggman Perfectly. I mean it is no Comic or something, it is a Live Action Movie. I think They Depicted Eggman just as he would be if he were a Human living in the Human world. Just Perfect. And i also think that he slowly makes the transition to the original eggman step by step. Its the best Videogame Movie Adaptation ive seen so far.

* I haven't seen it yet but want to, and will probably when it comes out on DVD in a couple of months from it's theater release.
in my country it was related recently, around feb 13th, so the dvd release should come out relatively soon.

it's a sonic film, and Jim carry is Jim carry, classic, you can't go wrong with Jim carry, he plays like hhis other famous movie/comic roles, so him as dr robotic/eggman should be a blast.

I talked about this before in a different thread, but i'll post my thoughts here too.

I went to see the movie on Feb 16th. I gotta say, they did amazing on it! I'd give it 8 rings out of 10, cause a) it strays far away from the source material (the games & the shows) and instead brings a fresh new take. The sonic timeline is going to get very confusing after this.

Also, Sonic flossing in the movie is a sight to behold!

Another thing; there were a LOT of ad placements. Some subtle (like the Chevy one iirc), and some not (we get it, Olive Garden has never ending pasta).

There's a few cringy parts but overall it's an awesome movie.

When Donut Lord Seen Sonic and Sonic Meowed I was like huh Detective Pikachu...
I did rather enjoy it. The Bucket list was a rather interesting spin. They made sonic rather dumb despite living with humans for years. The ads in the movie the guy above me stated were rather obvious like their moving and she shows the website she used. =.= I actually whispered to my friend look at that product placement~

The mom in the story really didn't have a purpose at all she was just some loud mouth bish.
Jim Carrey I wasn't huge on the role. He did his own style well, but I feel like I'd of enjoyed it more if they had the voice actor of sonic X's eggman do a voice over.

I did enjoy the movie. I didn't have much of a bar for expectations, but it exceeded what I'd of imagined. Would love to see what the original movie would of been.

Needs to be an option for "Might watch it when it comes to Netflix". I surely don't care enough to spend money to see it, but, eh, what the hell. I'd watch it before bed one night.

Watched it last thursday with a couple of friends with whom we have a running gag about Fast and Furious films, this one being brought by the producer of F&F, it was acted that we'll be seeing this soon or late... And we've not be deceived. With one or two references to Dwayne Johnson and the famous "family", we were sold on this point.

Otherwise, we were quite disappointed by the french "star-talent" interpreting Sonic's voicing (quite good, but not as enjoyable when you're used to the official Sonic's french voice), and found the film to be heavily relying on the performance of Jim Carrey to keep the spectators interest toward the film (and his best scene was the closing one, on the mushroom planet, where we see the "real Eggman").

I'll be pleased to see the next film starring Tails (who have his official voice actress), but I'll surely not pay 13€ for an other cinema entry for the sequel (it's what I globally pay for a Blu-ray).

I saw it yesterday.

Overall I would say the film was ok, not as good as some opinions seemed to make me think it would be but it was still enjoyable, helps if you’re familiar with certain aspects of the series/fandom/memes for a few jokes/references, but the people I was with who weren’t still enjoyed it.

I wouldn’t say it’s worth going to see in the Cinema unless discounted (like my tickets were) or you see it on something like Netflix.

That said, I am interested in seeing a sequel for spoiler related reasons.

I think the biggest surprise was that as a direct Hollywood video game adaptation it was as good as it was.
