Have you seen the Sonic the Hedgehog movie yet? Share your thoughts!

YnY1Uwo.png

After a tumultuous first reveal that led to weeks of disappointment, memes, and internet outcry, the Sonic the Hedgehog movie managed to revamp Sonic's design to look more like the character, which was a blessing to most peoples' eyes. Making sure Sonic actually looked Sonic-y, however, pushed the movie back from its original launch, out of 2019 and into 2020. Now, the time has finally come, and the film is finally available to see in theaters across the world. Have you seen it yet? Will you see it yet? Will it rival the likes of Detective Pikachu for acceptable family-friendly video game movie quality? Or will we be putting its Bluray on the shelf next to Super Mario Bros. (1993) and every Uwe Boll video game movie? Since it's launching (in the UK and USA) on Valentine's Day, are you treating your special someone to 99-minutes of Sonic-related hijinks? Let us know how you liked it!

Saw it last night, and LOVED IT!!! And this is coming from a die-hard Sonic fan. I grew up in the 90's, and watched the Sonic cartoons, read the comics, and played the games. If there was any ounce of Sonic lore out there, I definitely had it. As for the movie, a masterpiece in its own right. The humor was good and didn't feel forced, the evolution of Robotnik was great, and the jokes were perfect. I can hardly wait for the sequel!!!

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I'll be getting the Blu-ray (fingers crossed it includes a bonus with the original Sonic design just for lolz)
Me too, and I hope it does!!!!!

i thought it was good decent plot and the sonic redesign pretty much nailed the look of him the only thing i didn't like no fat suit for JC Dr. Eggman just wasn't portrayed well
If you notice Dr.Eggman was slowly morphing and the more he stays in the mushroom planet the more he will look like Eggman you know which is supposed to happen in the sequel :)

It was really good imo. Jim Carrey played the role perfectly, and they REALLY set the movie up for a sequel, which I really hope it gets. My theater was almost empty so me and my friends cracked jokes the whole time. Still think they should include the original design in the DVD release as well.

Looks Good but lacks Robotic / Eggman.

You cant beat Robotnic from The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog 1993/1994 Cartoon.

Full of Character and Humour.

Mortal Kombat is the best and closest Video Game Adaption what are you on about.

Annihilation was pretty shit and disappointing.

StreetFighter was great.

SilentHill movies where not bad.

Resident Evil Afterlife was best in series then Apocalypse then Resident Evil then Retribution then Extinction and oh did not know there was a Final Chapter just like it totally ignored events and characters from Apocalypse and Retribution total bloody mess.

And yeah I liked Super Mario Bros.

Not seen it yet, waiting til Tuesday when I can use my cinema discount card. But I will make an effort to take my Chaos Emeralds with me though. I hear they don't appear in the movie so I might just keep them in my pocket to redress the balance.

the movie in french take another dimenssion of disapointment, they take a (not good) voice comedian for sonic .

i watched yesterday with my kids ,they literaly were not interested after 30mn of the film :(

it was sad to see sonic not captivating kids !
this for my opinion is du to the dialogues , the scenario is good but dialogues are for babies.

if i note the movie : 5/10 for me.

It's one of those films where critics and the general audience are going to disagree.

To me, it was even more enjoyable than Detective Pikachu. The jokes landed surprisingly well for me and the theater I was in had people laughing left and right.

They did change a lot of aspects from the game, however, such as Sonic's personality, which is actually a lot better than I would have expected. Definitely gives him more character than a lot of modern Sonic games, even managing to keep him cool for the kids of today without making him "cool."

Robotnik/Eggman also got a substantial character change, at least for this first film. As hinted in the trailers, he's actually just working for the US government, so no woodland creatures were harmed in the making of this film. In fact, he's only interested in Sonic so he can harness his energy, not because he's in the way of building an amusement park, Death Egg, or taking over the world. He even uses drone-based badniks instead of traditional ones. As far as his character, it shifts throughout the movie, first being more Jim Carrey than Eggman but eventually spitting lines that I could imagine the doctor saying in an actual game. He definitely goes full egghead at the end.

Overall, I'd say the movie was great. It had nice action sequences, some pretty decent jokes, and some changes that I'm actually fond of and were probably needed in order to make this a movie more accessible to everyone. I suspect the sequel is probably going to be more "Sonic" now that it's established his world to a more general audience.

Taking the kids to see it here at 1030. Anything I should know about it from those who have seen it? Purposely have not read any comments to avoid spoilers. Like should we stay after the credits or no?

There's a pre-credits scene and a mid-credits scene. No after credits

I saw it. It wasn't bad. It wasn't amazing, but it was coherent and enjoyable. Story-wise, nothing new, walks through most of the "alien-meets-humans-makes-friends" tropes, but it wasn't done poorly. Better than something like trolls or smurfs, but those are its peers. Nowhere near stuff like wreck-it-ralph or how to train your dragon.

Graphics wise, looked great. One or two scenes where the main actor is pretending to interact with something not there, but since most of the movie is him doing this, just noticing one or two scenes as odd is a pretty dang good job on his part. Sonic looks great, and the other characters do as well.

Main actor was great, most of the others were serviceable. Some were playing it straight, some were playing it as if they were acting in a kids movie, so it was weird when two actors playing it differently were in the same scene together. Jim Carrey was great, and not annoying.

It was a fun ride, but I have no desire to ever see it again. Jim Carrey and his assistant were definitely the best parts of the movie.

For those that are about to see the movie, stay for the credits. Just saying.
