Final Fantasy VII Remake shows off its opening cinematic

The wait continues, for the Final Fantasy VII Remake, following the game's slight delay to April. If you weren't already anticipating the remake heavily enough, Square Enix has uploaded the game's opening cinematic movie, to get fans even more excited for the return to Midgar. Final Fantasy VII Remake will finally release, after years of hype and development, on April 10, 2020, as a timed exclusive for the PlayStation 4.

I played this game as a kid, then I played it again recently on the switch. it wasn't quite as good as I remembered, but I still enjoyed it. I got stuck a couple of times like the:

Tifa gas chamber minigame. I didn't know you could do two motions at once. that was like a ten-twenty minutes of figuring it out. lol

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

actually, the longest I got stuck was:

I think trying to find the lunar harp. I was stuck for several days. ;)
Several days lol how many attempts roughly - I did it about 5 attempts - how many people were you using just one lol

no, I mean I didn't know where to go.
in bone village (think that's its name), I found the key card to get back into midgar, so I thought it had something to do with that. mind you, I'm not using an faq for any game I play on the switch, so I've missed a lot. however, it gives me reason to go through the games again. so far, the only problematic games have been axiom verge and bloodstained. I don't really like either game, because they're so cryptic.

Am i the only one that noticed the materia is missing from aeris's hair. And if they keep with the original story aeris is constantly looking over her sholder and running from 'turks' and after the first reactor explosion she runs into cloud and he helps her escape them in the church.

Don't agree, and I have heard that many times- don't see where that logic comes:rolleyes:
I want to see what is happening on the screen and not miss something because I am reading subtitles.
And I don't expect English native speakers to understand that users of other language preferences are different

Only English native speakers are triggered over this opinion, whatever if those are games, tv series, etc.

Even I found English speaking people who were saying that watching anime with Japanese audio is a weeb thing. :D

No you are wrong sorry.

Most games have dubs other than English (French German, etc) I happen to be British and I would rather listen to the dialogue in my native language

End of!

Aeris' hair defies gravity, and the characters look like they came of directly from Advent Children. It doesn't look that bad. But Barret's voice sounded weird.
Those are probably hair extensions.

Why is Aerith running from something that isn't even there and in distress at 2:30. It literally makes no sense.

She was being costantly chased by Shinra... even before she met with Cloud.... So she's probably just running away because maybe she heard someone or maybe because she doesn't want someone to see her interacting with the lifestream.

The FPS drops are real, even in the OP video lol.
Some smoke effects also look really iffy.

But other than that, it looks great.
Here's hoping I can finally play FF7 (I can't stand the blocky 3D from the original).

On the sub vs. dub issue. 99.9% of the time, the original language audio is better.
Reading subs is not an issue at all, and only enriches your knowledge over time.

Anyone else actually play the demo yet? Guess there aren't a lot of 5.05 PS4 Pros around.

Anyways, the game looks and plays amazing. They put so much detail into the train station that if the rest of the game has that much detail, I can see why they ran out of money in Midgdar. Not just the graphics, but posters, vending machines, etc. I wasn't sure about the switch from turn based combat, especially after I hated FF15's battle system, but they did a good job with it. Combat flows well and the whole thing feels extra cinematic since the combat starts and ends without transitions.

There is a bit of extra dialog, but overall it stays very true to the original. I didn't have high expectations, but it vastly exceeded them. I'm hoping there will be some way to play the full game on 5.05 because it would be a day one purchase if I was sure I could play it.

Too long and drawn out.... should have been a literal remake of the original opening, that was perfect, why expand? Also the punchy fanfare (and subsequent goosebumps from this FFVII fan), that BOOM of the title showing, it's just not as good... And for gawds sake somebody tell me we can mute the voices!
6/10 :P

that is becuase your not usted to reading subtitles lol, in noone english speaking countrys like mine all movies and tv shows are subbed, and you dont loose the movie or tv show screen while reading subtitles lol, you can read and watch at the same time like the rest of the world does.

Only english speaking countrys are the ones complaining about subs option, 99% of all games dont have portuguese and you dont see people crying over it, same for most languagues, its a matter of getting used to seeing and reading subs at the same time.

If you played the original, you know why she is distressed.
I played the original and there was no such scene plus i did so when it first came out wich was 23 years ago. Like i would know every single scene at the back of my head perfectly 23 years long

Nah, ps5 is just a highly upgraded and optimized ps4 so no real reason to. But they will probably have code for it to run smoother/better on ps5 and might sell it as such? Who knows.
I played the demo on my regular PS4, seems the game is not very penalized on obsolete HW, Pony has already said that ps5 will run ps4 games, probably SE will just make a patch for nextgen to finally support 4k and 60fps....

pony? Is that a youtuber?

But yes, it's probably better of me to say it's more than just running ps4 games. You probably know all this, but I feel like breaking it down :P There are different ways of implementing backward compatibility. There's hardware, software, and a mix.

- Software being difficult and requiring an emulator of the original hardware, which is how ps1/ps2 games are done on the ps4.

- Hardware runs the code without faking old hardware, just limits the hardware to the specs of the original (so, slow down the cpu or limit cores to what was available for old hardware, etc, which is what the Wii and Wii U did for gamecube/wii compatibility). This can include adding in old hardware to new hardware so everything will play (ps3 original took this approach).

- A mix will have some variety of code run off hardware, and some of the hardware emulated/faked. There can be overlap and sometimes a "hardware" backward compatibility isn't 100% hardware but it's close enough.

PS4 on PS5 should be completely hardware. It'll be more like playing xbox 1 games on xbox 1 X. They should be able to run PS4 games better and smoother than they played on the PS4 as there will be little to no overhead. And games with code which is aware of the better resources available will be able to play better.

tl;dr: It's probably easier to think of the ps5 as the ps4 extreme, in regards to compatibility, rather than a completely different beast.
