SEGA Ages version of Sonic 2 and Puyo Puyo 2 will launch this month, for the Nintendo Switch

sanic2.jpg

We've finally got more details on the new SEGA Ages version of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Previously revealed to have Sonic Mania's Drop Dash ability and Knuckles as a playable character, Sega has provided the launch date for the western release, along with its price. On February 20th, Sonic 2, alongside Puyo Puyo 2 will be available on the Nintendo Switch eShop, for $7.99 respectively. Just like the Nintendo 3DS editions of classic Sonic games, the SEGA Ages port will be handled by M2.

It's not that simple. The HD Remake was only released on Android and iOS, so even to this day there's still no PC, PS4 or XO version.

However, you can emulate Android on PC and there are tons of cheap Android TV boxes you can play the game on with a controller.
It really is that simple but you try to make it look like very complex haha very funny, we are taking about the core game, the additions doesn't really matter, hd? On that game come on dude, wake up hahaha and still you have the boxes and the android emulator so yeah, good try enjoy making your life unnecessarily hard for saying it in a way.

You just don't get it. I give up.

Yoooo.. Drop dash in Sonic 2. It's just a tad pricey for me, (I'd jump at it immediately around $4.99-5.99), but it's still really tempting. I'm just one vulnerable night or handful of My Nintendo gold points away from snagging that..

So puyo puyo 2 is not translated? Not to mention that the snes version of the game is on the snes online app? Why do they think is not a problem to have near identical games on the same system multiple times?

This version of puyo puyo 2 has a new translation. Actually, the game was officially translated for Neo Geo Pocket Color.

The only text they modified for the game was the text when selecting a multiplayer mode. Everything else appears to have been left untranslated. All the menus and extra features like character descriptions are in English know.

So I don't count that as a full translation. Saying that, you aren't missing much from the untranslated text, and it's easy to figure out what is going on.

I have about half of the Sega AGES library that was released for the Switch up until now (7 / 14 games).
M2 does a wonderfull job with those ports.
Not only are they true to the original (Arcade) Games, they also go above and beyond to add cool little extra features, such as new Game Modes, Online Leaderboards, Replay Support and much more.

I can't wait to buy Sonic 2. Let's hope that they got inspired by the mobile port (doubt it though) and that they include "The Hidden Palace Zone". It's a day 1 buy for me anyway.

I agree. The retroengine Sonic ports are far superior to emulation. If Sega wants to see $7.99 from me for these games that's what needs to happen. Until then I will play Sonic CD on PC, the mobile Sonic 1 & Sonic 2 on my Android TV box, and Sonic 3 on PC via Angel Island Revisited. No exceptions, I'm spoiled by 16:9.
AIR is nice but 3 complete came out years before and is leagues better
I'd take zone layout customization and sonic sprite customization alongside peelout and spindash any day over 16:9. call me an oldie but i just like it that way
Although if AIR gets support for 3 complete's rom or adds 3 complete's features i'm jumping ship lmao
Actually NVM Sonic 3 air has a mod loader now
bye complete i guess

Yea I'd kill for a Daytona port on the Switch. Any version would do but my preference would be Daytona 2001 (Dreamcast) because I'm all about Rin Rin Rink.

Maybe there's hope... Dreamcast 2001, PSXBOX360 2011... Switch 2021???

Then all we need is Sega Rally and we finally have the three greatest racers ever produced all on one system.
lol i don't want any daytona port
what i want is a new daytona game called daytona 2020 (kinda like daytona 2001)
remake of all the games, released both on arcade and consoles. Gives you 3 graphic options, daytona usa (saturn/ps1 graphics) daytona usa 2 (PS2/dreamcast) and modern (self-explanatory)
Has all the tracks from all daytona games. BOOM you'll break a million.

Sure that'd be nice and all, but it's beyond the scope of Sega Ages and just pretty unlikely Sega would do it at all.

I can't think why anybody would want a version with PS1/Saturn style graphics, though... That's a pretty masochistic version of nostalgia as graphics from that era have not aged well in any way shape or form.

I'm also worried if Sega "did* do a modern version it would essentially be a port of the new arcade game and therefore limited to PS/xbox machines as it would be too much for the Switch to handle.

I'm also unsure of your sales predictions, regrettably. I'm not sure of how many fans there really are left of the franchise and a game of the complexity you're dreaming of would need to sell for top dollar, thus further limiting it's appeal.

So, yea, I'd be happy with a straight up port of the PS360 versions, all being said and done.

Why pay money when I can just emulate the same game made by a company THAT ACTUALLY GIVES A S*** ABOUT THE ROM HACKING COMMUNITY? Yeah, I would still support it either way! After all, Sega STILL does what Ninten*Insert your favorite contraction of NOT here*

Well people are going to be disappointed by that misleading statement. They show no screenshots to back this up, and the screenshots on Sega's US website don't back this up either. One screenshot shows the character's bio's in English, but that's an extra feature that is part of the interface, not the game itself.

I'm pretty sure the Sega Ages releases are the same for all regions (Japanese and English support). So basing on the version I downloaded from the Japan store (which displays the English interface text because my Switch's language is English), they haven't translated anything in the single player mode. In multiplayer mode, they do display English text descriptions for the mode selection (but I better that's the emulator making the changes, not because the rom has been modified).

Now with Puyo 1 Sega Ages, all regions have an option to use the Japanese or English version. Puyo 2 Sega from what I can tell has no option.

If the US/EU downloads do use a fully translated English, well then I'll have to buy that version, and Sega get more money. :P

Why else would they declare it's the first time the game has been officially translated? Awesome as that would be, it's still inaccurate for ignoring the Neo Geo Pocket version.
