OP
The title says it all.
Since you use TWL menu ++ it runs off the sd card, using the dsi's wifi chip
Just wondering if you could make it do wpa like how the dsi enhanced games support it.
Thanks!

Theoretically you could.

Practically. Never going to happen. If it ever did then it would be an incidental hack to someone wanting the DSi for something actually useful and putting the however many hundred hours into it to pull it off, which as nobody has a DSi and that number is unlikely to increase and it did not actually do all that much useful is not going to happen. If all you get from it is the ability to not have to spend £2 on a second hand router then the time investment would be hard to justify.

That will definitely not happen until twilightmenu and nds-bootstrap get the ability to run dsi exclusive games. Even then it would take a while since it would be necessary to reverse engineer both the DS wifi code for each SDK version and the DSi wifi code (as the wifi "drivers" are part of the game cartridge rather than the system firmware and you know how long it took to get reliable SD loading for DS games.

If I recall correctly, Robz said that he'd look into it, but after pretty much everything else is done, like compatibility. And, WPA/2 hasn't even been fully implemented into homebrew yet, so if it ever happens, it'll probably be a while from now.

Maybe he has changed his mind since then, I'm not sure, it was probably a year ago when I asked.

I want it just as much, but moreso because I'd like to see others online, as I already have a no-security connection.

If you can i guess you try tracking down one of the old USB Wi-Fi Connector they sold back when DS online game was the new thing. That would probably still work if the software doesn't try to route traffic through the official servers

From what I've heard, they work with DNS settings redirecting to Wiimmfi or whatever your preferred server is, but it seems to only work on XP/Vista.

So, assuming your phone or laptop can't function as a hotspot, go to just about any second hand electronics shop, charity shop, car boot sale, yard sale, rummage sale, speak to friends and family to see if they have any stashed in cupboards or go online and find yourself an old router that does support WEP, use that as a secondary router on your network and job jobbed. No need to spend hundreds of hours of seriously technical skilled time per game finding all the network calls, rewriting network drivers for hardware that it never anticipated and dealing with the fallout from such a radical change to what are actually fairly modern games (I don't know if you followed some of the NES mapper, SNES chip adaptions or GBC MBC changing hacks but all the pitfalls of those multiplied by 10 as code got an awful lot more inclined to jump around in the years following those systems).

I've heard that gbarunner2's link cable capabilities would be many times better if it could use dsi wifi (this is not for going online but more like nifi). I would love for this to hallen for sure. It is however a bit different from what OP is requesting.
