You have the power to make any one person or animal immortal (except yourself)

Who do you pick? Do you pick anyone at all?

The person/animal will stop aging at that point and won't be constrained by eating/drinking or disease/pain

It's a really hard question. I don't know if I would pick anyone. I think it would ultimately be a curse. Whomever you pick is doomed to ultimately watch everyone they care about die. I think life would get very old very fast.

Looking at it like that I'd consider picking someone I despise.
Though I don't think it's possible to dislike anyone nearly enough to pull something like this.

If I wasn't doing it with a malice intent I'd need to sit down with and have the person confirm that they're OK with it, after having been told the benefits and definite consequences of it.

Eternal life is a curse, for many reasons, but I'll give you just this one. Watch everyone you ever have and ever will care about, ageing and untimely dying while you soldier on for all eternity. I wouldn't wish that upon anyone, it's a lonely existence. After all, why would you want to create any bonds, if you just have to suffer the heartache of losing them time and time again.

Nobody. Eternal life given the inevitable heat death of the universe would doom that individual to an eternity floating through an empty vacuum at absolute zero. And I’m not sure anybody deserves that.

As for me, I'm lazy, I don't want to live forever, I want to rest in peace. Sounds comfy. :D

Then you are crazy. I prefer to live forever and healthy 100 percent perfectly.. There are so much to explore on beautiful beautiful Earth that is endless. Yeah, I choose to live forever, period.

Haha! Take it easy! You know perfectly well that you can't live forever, and I know perfectly well that I'm in no rush to die. We're just fooling around here. :P

Haha.. I just said it because I prefer to live forever. Yes, nobody can live forever but live is part of nature desire in us that wants to live forever, right ? Nobody wants to died, right ? So I want to live forever! ;) :P

I have a little sister, not blood related, but we treat each other no diff. She's basically the poster girl for what a kind hearted soul would be like. The thing is: she has a number of diseases that prevent her from doing so much. Most of her life is spent in and out of hospitals or asleep.

Part of me wishes she could just be immortal, so she wouldn't need to fear death and could enjoy her life without its physiological hardships. As it's immortality and not invincibility, she could plausibly choose when she wishes to end it, right?

Of course, I realize that immortality could bring her more suffering, but she's one of the most resilient people I know spiritually and emotionally and think she'd gain more than lose. She's lost many of her friends over the years, so I'm sure she could handle that sadness again. But she deserves a better life, and something like immortality would give her that ability, if you were to ask me.

Nobody.

No Living Thing has "deserved" eternal Life in THIS World....

Jeez...I feel like I'm betraying my girlfriend and our daughter, but I'll stick by my choice: our dog.

Why? Not only because she's cute, friendly and playful, but mostly because (like all animals) she barely remembers notions of long history. And that's why I would pick her: after some time, humans would see it as a curse. For the reasons mentioned in the OP.
