I’ve been getting back into playing on my DS Lite recently, and growing up, using a DSTT was how I played my games, the only other DS cards I had were scribblenauts and ea playground. I never had any gba games, so my only experience of gba games are through emulators. Anyway, is there anyway to play gba on it? Posts from around 2009 say no but a lot has changed since then.

a flash cart like everdrive or ez flash omega. however, I've heard bad things about the omega as it pertains to saves getting corrupted. there may be an emulator for that card, but I'm not sure. another option is gbarunner2, but it's a work in progress.

Thanks, I’ll look into those, gbarunner2 seems to be my best bet if I don’t want spend a ton. But for now I’ll probably stick to playing virtual console injects of gba games on my 3ds.

I converted my whole gba collection to rom, then to vc. I also injected saves, which is a bit of a pita, since the file that stores the save is only large enough for one save at a time. this is on a 3ds though, but I think the ds can run gbarunner 2 and twilight menu ++

Yeah. So far I'm downloading YSMenu and then will install gbarunner2, looked through some of the compatible list of games, and seems to be a few I want to play that are compatible, thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

it gets a bit confusing for me with bc and these systems. I just recently learned that the gameboy micro does not support gameboy or gameboy color games, so I bought an sp. anyway, I kept thinking of the 3ds with your question. I just bought an everdrive a day or two ago for gba on the ds. I haven't gotten it yet. however, I read that those flash carts are hand done by one person while the ez flash omega seems to be mass produced.

Yeah I recently found out about the gameboy micro not having bc as well, which sucks but maybe it's to do with the size, that they couldn't fit in the part for it (not sure how bc worked on gameboys). However, I think from what I just searched, ez flash omega does support gameboy colour and normal gameboy games, so maybe that would work on gameboy micro. Wonder if bc for gbc and gb games would work in the DS gba slot with the ez flash omega.

btw, the ds is how I dumped my gba games. then, I moved them to the 3ds. I'm not sure if there's vc for gba on a ds. twilight menu++ can be installed with a flash cart, but I think only certain ones. I have a dstwo, which also can be used for gba emulation.

just read your post. twilight menu ++ (which I recommend) can play gameboy and gameboy color games by default, and it even adds color to normal gameboy games like dkc. it might be an upgrade to your flash cart too. twilight menu++ 's compatibility is increasing all the time, though it's not 100% yet. a lot of games that don't work are playable if using a flash cart. I'm not sure if ds++ is one of them. one game to check is golden sun dark dawn. it doesn't work unless using a flash cart.

I'll have to look into both, think I might go with twilight menu++ then, if it has some gb and gbc support as well. However I can't tell if it has DS Lite support, as most of the things about it mentions DSi. I'll try anyway, as I have backed up everything on the SD already, so if it goes wrong, I can reformat.

Edit: Looking at a post of it, it has a photo of what looks like a DS Lite with it (no power button below d pad) so it probably works.

yes, it makes mention of needing a flash cart for ds:

https://github.com/DS-Homebrew/TWiLightMenu
Thanks a ton! Managed to get gbarunner2 working on Twilight Menu++. Tried Grand Theft Auto Advance (as it was listed as fully compatible on the gbarunner2 wiki) and it works!

The only downside to using Twilight Menu is it takes longer to boot.

I have Twilight menu++ running on TT. I go to the github page of GBA runner 2, but unsure what to download and put on my micro sd card;

can you please help?

I’m really sorry but I honestly can’t remember what I did, and I can’t check, as I ended up switching back to the DSTT menu, as trying to play my DS games with twilight menu wouldn’t load my old saves. You could possibly get an R4 card which I think supports GBA but I can’t remember. Really sorry.

Go to the releases tab and download the gbarunner2_arm7dldi_ds.nds and gbarunner2_arm9dldi_ds.nds and put them anywhere on your microsd. Then you need the gba bios named as bios.bin in a folder called _gba.

Zense,

thanks for that. I was able to do it and can now play GBA games!
That is on my DSL that I will give to my mother.

now, I was wonder if you have any advice for me regarding DSi?
I have a spare R4 revolutions for ndsi/ndsl and nds.
I haven't been able to get this to work .. I'm not sure what to put onto it to get it going. Do you have any idea?
thanks, i'm a noob! please see my pics.

I'm not the most informed when it comes to flashcarts but here's a guide that should help you with setting it up:
https://nightyoshi370.github.io/mm-github-pages-starter/

Alternatively/additionally you can set up CFW on your DSi to use most of the same functions as you would with a flashcard (for the moment some games have issues with download play/ single card multiplayer and some other stuff probably), but you gain benefits of tapping into your DSi's more powerful CPU and other things, like playing Gameboy Advance games, via the different programs you get by installing Twilightmenu++.
