Hi, I'm using a softmadded Dsi with Hiya CFW and Twilightmenu++. 'm trying to get DS Doom to function, I'm using the version found on moddb with RobZ's fork's .nds file, which fixed the "cannot read/write" error issue. However, now when launching the game it tells me "IWAD not found" and will not load. I have tried it in a folder in my roms folder as well as with all the files on the root of my SD card. This is infuriating because it worked once the very first time I installed it, then never again after that. Could some one let me know what to do? Thanks!

You need the actual doom data file, known as doom.wad which contains the games data. You can get it from a retail or digital copy of doom and just copy it into the DoomDS directory. There is also a shareware demo online which you can use with only the first episode in it.

You likely won’t get far without that file though.

Doesn't FreeDoom work too?

The problem with Freedoom is that, correct me if I'm wrong, it needs a limit-removing source port to function currently as it has a ton of ginormous maps and would eventually run into an error-

Find the shareware wad somewhere. The shareware is free (hence the name), just test it. If it still doesn't work, it;s either your ds or the DSDOOM.

Use the DSDoom SVN version and put it in the SD root alongside the 4 iwads mentioned above. Then select from DSDoom's initial menu the title you are interested in.

I have to copy All of it to SD root
Not necessarily, just put all the files in the same directory (which includes the .nds file) after that you can name your directory whatever you want and place it wherever you want, in my case, I have two installations of DSDoom one for the original iwads and one for the pwads, my two directories are in a DATA folder which is located at the root of my sd card, one is called DSDoom and the other is called DSDoomMods, if I have done like that, it's because I noticed (after having tested hundreds of them) that certain pwads could corrupt the tranmap.dat file.

Nope, There's def. some problem with this.
If I have everything in One folder, iwad not found
some of the files have to be in root directory (?dunno exactly - prboom.wad, prboom.cfg, genmidi, wads) to run (at least for me)
Or maybee in Data folder, cause it's old DS structure for simmilar games and it could stay here from older versions (look for files in Data directory)?

hum...yes, indeed, it could be linked to your linker, if I remember correctly I had this problem with one of my linkers and to resolve the problem I used HBMenu, I cannot be 100% sure but HBmenu should be able to allow you to organize your SD as you wish if, like me, you don't like having too many things at the root of your SD or if you like to partition your installations, just out of curiosity you should try , I think it should work if you launch the content in your nds folder (with the other files of course) from HBmenu
I leave you a link to download hbmenu :
https://www.gamebrew.org/wiki/Homebrew_Menu
Personally I no longer use the firmware of my flashcard to launch games or homebrews, from my original wood I launch either HBmenu 0.4.1 or 0.9.0 or even YSmenu but that's it and everything else launches it from these menus, it considerably broadens the compatibility and the possibilities, it is more tedious to organize but once it is done, it is stable, very compatible and very practical for testing the different homebrews of old and new generation

EDIT:a stupid question but I'll ask it anyway, did you rename your wad of doom (not the shareware)? like this DOOM.WAD (and not doom1.wad)

Don't want to mess around with that now, but I should def. try this, cause I needed HB menu for some homebrew app before (can't remember, I have more DSs and carts and other handhelds, so.. it's kind of messy here). And I need to try to learn how to use argv files (according to your post mentioned above)... so, too much work for now...
Anyway... I have DOOM.WAD and Doom2.wad named files. But both works if I place everything in the root of SD card (also it is possible to make all files hidden - except for dsdoom.nds - so not a big deal for me...)
- /// BTW. is there a info how to name wads correctly for prboom? /// -
And I also tried this on odd old R4 card (R4i-sdhc.com), I used it's firmware, cause I wasn't able to run TWilightMenu++ on this one.
Also not a big deal for me, just to mention this.

I totally understand sometimes it's important to take a break from testing and enjoy it a little. ;)

- /// BTW. is there a info how to name wads correctly for prboom? /// -
doom1 = doom shareware wad
doom = doom standard or ultimate doom wad
doom2 = doom2 wad
tnt = tnt wad
plutonia = plutonia wad

lowercase or uppercase it doesn't matter

And I also tried this on odd old R4 card (R4i-sdhc.com), I used it's firmware, cause I wasn't able to run TWilightMenu++ on this one.

Have you tried launching TWL via YSmenu? My flashcard is quite old now (2015), I have never tried to launch TWL++ directly through the firmware of my R4 but I know that with YSmenu it works fine

I didn't find flashcard loader that turns TW++ on.
only one that seems to do anything is
R4i-SDHC, r4isdhc.com cards 2014+, R4i SDHC Upgrade Revolution, R4DSiXL3D, R4i Advance, R4-IIIi, R4 SDHC Revolution, R4(i) Pocket, R4i Gold (v1.4.1) (3DS) & R4xDS
but it splashes white screen and than nothing.
as I said, not a big deal for me, cause I have bunch of R42022? cards that works right with TW++ So It doesn't bother me to use original firmware on this one (except it'll skip DS menu, so no instant firing GBA card)..
Yep. And I'm just trying to dive into some games (and nanoloop), so I don't wanna just mess with testing a trying to run everything now ;)

There's also freedoom1 and freedoom2 if you don't have any of the real Doom wads.
These two work both as iWad (renaming them) and as pWad (via argv argument), from SD-slot of a DSi without problems, but from flashcart on DS phat/lite they crash often during gameplay, almost always during saving or loading (too little ram). Tested extensively, both older and latest versions available.
