To celebrate 2020, Sega will be announcing Sonic news on the 20th of every month

sanic.png

Get ready for a guaranteed dose of Sonic news each month, with Sega's latest initiative. It's called Sonic2020, and the goal of the project will see the official Sonic Channel website post Sonic-related news and announcements on every 20th of each month this year. Sega promises that "a variety of events" are scheduled for this coming year, all to build momentum for 2021, which will be the series' 30th anniversary.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

sonic '06 remastered. I can't wait for that announcement.
Me too tbh, I wish they would just release the finished game (the one they couldn't get to stop crashing and had to release an early beta in its place to make it to the holiday release), I'm sure it's pretty good and modern hardware can handle it much more easily.

It's the last yuji naka Sonic game so it really deserves it.

I wonder what kind of gimmick will they try to give a Sonic game:

1. Sword - Sonic and the Black Knight
2. Gun - Shadow the Hedgehog
3. Gravity - Sonic Lost World
4. Alien Powerups- Sonic Colors
5. Make your own character - Sonic Forces
6. Human world - Sonic Adventure

It's going to be Sonic the movie the game.

Oh god please no, don't give SEGA ideas.
I am expecting nothing from SEGA, that way I can't be disappointed. I will buy and play the game anyway, I am a "hardcore fan" after all.

Best case scenario:
- Sonic Mania 2 or some other 2D game that uses the Retro Engine - Sonic 3 & Knuckles in the Retro Engine would be nice, too.
- A new 3D Sonic Game that uses the Engine from Sonic Adventure 2. I still think that the game nailed how Sonic should controll in 3D. Fluid movement yet precise control. Everything after SA2 just felt like playing on a slippery slope.
- A remake of SA2. I know that the rumors state a remake of SA1 is comming but SA2 is, in my opinion, a much better game.

Worst case scenario:
- A new 2D Sonic game developed by DIMPS. Sonic Advance was good, Sonic Advance 2 already lacked quality and Sonic Advance 3 was a clusterfuck of a game. Let's not even talk about Sonic 4 Ep. I & II...
- A remake of: Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic Heroes, Sonic 06 (too much to fix to make it worth it).

my problems with advance 2 are the bottom pits out of nowhere, and the insignia, medals or whatever, that you need to find f*ck*ng seven in each act, to access special stages. i mean, why not hidden some giant rings, require a "x" number of rings etc... even a single giant spring, like sonic advance 1 (that annoyed me too) are better than this...

but yeah, i agree. and i like shadow the hedgehog (*see a stone flying in my direction*). not the ps2 version, obviously :P

Sorry I'd take another Sonic Adventure :)

Nothing wrong with that, it takes all of our many and curious differences to make the world an interesting place to live in ;)

I enjoyed Sonic Adventure back when I imported my first Dreamcast (I’ve had a few :D). It’ll never stand up to the classic 2D games for me, but neither do I consider it as dreadful as the later 3D Sonic games.

Lol @ anyone asking for a good 3d sonic game, it's pretty obvious sega is too imcompentent to even have one shred of good game design in their latest 3d sonic games (mania was developed by whitehead so it doesn't count)
Ditch sonic for a while and focus on the ips that they havent ran into the ground

How about the sky?

They'll keep doing Sonic--hell, the SEGA logo and Sonic bleed Cobalt Blue.
PSO is now a cartoon.
K. Hiruta wants to bring back SoA.
Crazy Taxi learned its lesson with music rights.
Super Monkey Ball was okay.
The list goes on.

I think the biggest problem is that Sonic is really the only franchise SEGA can work with--they had a weird thing with rights--basically, they aren't Nintendo.
As in, Nintendo pretty much fucks everybody when you sign that contract; SEGA actually doesn't own too many of the franchises that debuted on their systems.

Either way, maybe they need input from people like you to make their games better?
Or maybe that's how this happened:

BTW, wait for fat Jim Carey memes.

Maybe they should start over then
Get rid of sonic or just throw him off the spotlight.
Make some new IPs and reboot the old ones that they still mostly own.
But tbh the best idea would be for the team to just get bought by nintendo
Nintendo will probably direct the team better anyways, sonic team has potential.
It's just that Sega has dug themselves too deep into a rut.
It'd make sense for them to be sold to Nintendo. That's what everyone in this thread's probably thinking by now lol.

I don't think SEGA can stop using Sonic.
That's like asking Playstation to stop using Toro Inoue...you know him...right?

I feel SEGA can't shine without having "their own"--they need creative freedom. I'd feel some kind of way if SEGA was just...gone..ordered to be someone's lackey.
Besides, SEGA does a lot of business in the gambling sector, so I really don't think Nintendo wants to deal with that.

So no, I don't think "everyone" thinks being sold to Nintendo is the best idea.
Do you have any idea how many people would show some kind of smile if there was an official Dreamcast 2 announcement?

No offense, but it seems you don't know the SEGA that was, so you can't connect on that level. In fact, you don't even know of a world where freedom actually existed, if you are actually 14.

Anyway, I'll always love SEGA for being who they are. I'm sure you'd love them too if you got used to Seaman.

Okay, maybe i was too harsh on the "Don't use Sonic part"
Also, the audience that would smile on the Dreamcast 2 are already screeching about the Switch.
I know the Sega that existed, the one that kept getting outdone by nintendo, the one that had constant fights with each other, (SoA vs SoJ) The one that cancelled the sonic Saturn game, the one that got shot down in the console market by the PS2.
Dreamcast 2 would be useless, because with the state of sega now, most of the exclusives probably on the theoretical DC 2 would be ports from the original dreamcast, Sega IPs picked up by indie devs (again, sega having to rely on outsider studios to keep afloat) Genesis collections for the 1000000000000000th time and 1st party games that would probably be mediocre compared to any Sony or Nintendo exclusive.... that's what i think anyway
You can take a gamble with making a DC 2 or you can just be bought by a much more successful company that is one that has way more anticipated exclusives, one that revolutionized handheld gaming consoles, (Switch,DS & 3ds Family, gameboy family..) one that has much better company management, and one people actually care about.

too harsh

Not quite--SEGA is known (or was known) for innovation. They took risks (definitely related to the large gambling presence) and while it may not have always panned out, the decisions they made are still relevant today.

As for DC2, boii, what? If I announced a Dreamcast mini and Dreamcast 2 to be in development, you have no idea of the waves of people who'd be eagerly awaiting.
You aren't the world and neither am I--there are people like you and there are people like me, as well as others and most would welcome SEGA's return to console exclusives.

To add to that, yeah, they'd have their IPs, but they'd also know there'd be a reason to give more ideas a chance.
Do you know of a world before Xbox? People thought the same thing you're thinking about SEGA--"Microsoft needs to stay in their lane! Make computer games, idiots!"
And look where we are now.

Experience this world, but understand, there are a lot of people who have ideas beyond yours. Just because you think SEGA would do the "obvious", doesn't mean they would. There's so much shit that happens in this world you don't know about until you are actually in it. What I mean is, I had no idea of the work that goes into doing all of this. I really never thought of all the work that goes into making anything possible.
Sure, Farmer Joe makes a decent living growing apples, but how much work goes into just that? Thin about it. Think about all the equipment, pesticides (or lack of), knowledge and time it takes to grow a decent apple, then couple it with how much work goes into selling that apple for a profit.

Also, people have lives--shit sucks for everyone, all around the world when you realize someone is always trying to fuck you to make their own life easy. That's how it is; welcome to Earth.

So in the end, you have to realize, we try our best, but sometimes, it just isn't possible to have consumers, investors, producers (figure it out), general public (with limited knowledge), and everyone else happy while you have to keep a roof over your head and your own shit under control.

I just saved you 15 years; you're welcome.

really hope its an amazing, well-thought out sonic adventure series game that does better than 1 and 2 without the taint of Sonic '06.

FTFY.

We probably won't get a SA at all, unless everyone decides to tell them, "Scrap what you're doing and give us what we asked for before the 2000's babies ruined everything, assholes." just like that.
It might make waves.

I mean, take the Sonic The Hedgehog movie as an example--they pandered to assholes and look what it got them. Thankfully, people called them out on (eye)Sorenic The High AF Hog.
